Cancelling newspaper subscription

I once had a subscription to The Times online and when I wanted to cancel it was very difficult. They do not let you cancel online and you have to ring them. When you try to ring the lines are busy and you have to attempt it several times to get through to someone. At the time it was also a premium rate call. When you did get through they aggressively tried to persuade you not to cancel.
There are numerous reviews online from people saying the same thing and advising against taking out a subscription with The Times.
Now, for various reasons I would like to take a subscription out with The New York Times which is a completely separate organisation to The Times. It says on the website that you can cancel online simply by going in to your account.
Have any Gransnetters had problems trying to cancel newspaper or magazine subscriptions and does anyone have any experience where you can cancel online from your account without having to ring them?
Grateful thanks in advance.

That's a shame I have always found the Times website OK we have paper and on line subscription.
Haven't cancelled complete subscription but have many times stopped due to holidays, in fact did that a couple of weeks ago.
Good luck with your quest.

Visgirl, when it comes to putting it on hold while you’re on holiday do you ring them or can you do it from your account online?

fancythat, when I looked at reviews for cancelling the DT they also complain about having to ring and it’s difficult. I wondered if they contract the same sales people out to deal with cancellations. This was some time ago, they might have changed it and I hope it’s straightforward for you.

I cancelled my Telegraph online subscription last year, it was straightforward, I did it online and no issues afterwards.
I did have to separately opt out from all the news update emails I got from them, they didn’t automatically stop.
Hope you get on ok with it fancythat

If all fails can you not just cancel your bank direct debit.
