Trump/Zelensky interview in the White House

It was shameful. Just when I think that Don Trumpleone can't get any worse - he never disappoints. Everyone has to be derided, called names, sneered at and spun endless lies. He has not a shred of dignity or integrity and has the criminal charges against him to add to that.

He raises his voice, struts and blows out his chest, overworks the Tommy Cooper hands, goes off into his whole routine and obviously gets a real buzz at the sound of his own voice talking down to anyone with an opinion that doesn't chime with his own.

The chance of showing off, again, and this time on his own patch, disrespecting, bullying, and constantly talking over Ukraine's President in front of a bunch of news reporters and on film must have truly made his day. No decent person could have sat through that and not thought of just how brave and decent Zelensky could manage the control that he showed after what he and his country have been through. Imagine having to listen to the sidekick telling him over and over that he hadn't said thank you enough, like he was an errant schoolboy.

Doubtless tomorrow Trump will argue that today's words were imagined. Whilst sitting on his bed eating endless burgers and drinking Coke, he'll doubtless think up some other spiel and crazy get-rich-quick scheme to make himself (and America) great again. What a statesman! So very very glad that I'm a European.

That wouldn't help anyone, easybee - you suggesting we descend to Trumps level and cancel in a fit of pique? Let's stay grown up.

A few moments ago, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that Zelensky "disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for peace." 😡😡😡😡

I thoroughly enjoyed the scene. Trump speaks his mind...no pussyfooting about with this man. How refreshing after Biden and Obama....sucking up and appeasing.

You like people who simply shout others down? You think that literally having a louder voice makes someone's opinions more worthy, even if not one single word that comes put of their mouth has any meaningful value or an ounce of intelligent reasoning to back it up?
Heaven help us!

Zelensky was not humiliated; he stood his ground.
Nandalot correctly described it as a reality show. Trump co-produced and hosted 14 seasons of The Apprentice, (America).
That rant today was a disgrace to America but comes as no surprise.
And the oleaginous British PM has invited him for a State Visit, in exchange for what, exactly?
Should be cancelled forthwith.

No Nobel peace prize for Trump then! Trump will be seething because he hasn't got his own way!

Wyllow3 Fri 28-Feb-25 18:41:37

Remember Trumps "24 hour" sort out?

Lucyd Fri 28-Feb-25 18:41:07

Trump and Vance acted like a couple of loud mouth playground bullies. I take my hat off to Zelensky for not losing the plot with them. They are a despicable pair of louts.

Wyllow3 Fri 28-Feb-25 18:39:38

Trumps Truth Social Post inn full

"“We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today.
"Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure.
"It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelensky is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations.
"I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE.
"He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office.
"He can come back when he is ready for Peace.”

But what was Trump offering Zelensky? What valid points did he have to make?

The only think for Zelensky worth trading in the minerals for is some kind pf peace - how was Trump offering peace without Russian commitments

It was distressing to watch, the very opposite of enjoyable. I think President Zelensky showed great dignity and presence of mind in the face of rudeness and bullying. He’s a brave man.

foxie48 Fri 28-Feb-25 18:36:35

Totally appalling behaviour by Trump and Vance. Some Maga people might like to see that sort of behaviour but many won't. Zelensky has left, so there's no deal and I don't blame him. There was nothing in this deal for Ukraine.

Parsley3 Fri 28-Feb-25 18:36:04

Is this the deal that Trump has made with Putin? Destroy Zelensky and end the war so Putin can move in unopposed.

Grandma70s Fri 28-Feb-25 18:35:52

Trump and Vance come across as bad-mannered louts, unfortunately in powerful positions.

Shinamae Fri 28-Feb-25 18:33:46

I do think Trump made some very valid points but the way he humiliated Zelensky was absolutely disgusting, there was no need for that…😖

woodenspoon Fri 28-Feb-25 18:32:07

It was never going to go smoothly like Starmers meeting yesterday. Trump resents the billions the USA have paid out. It was bound to boil over.

Shinamae Fri 28-Feb-25 18:30:18

You like bullies? You enjoy seeing people humiliated?

Zelensky is one brave man!

Wyllow3 Fri 28-Feb-25 18:26:18

Shocked to the core (yes, following it on news feed) the arrogance

*I dont think Trump has a single card up his hand vis a vis a deal with Putin. I don't think Putin has given him a thing to bargain with territory wise Its all hot air. Trump/Vance trying to force Zelensky to concede then take that to Putin my guess.

Doodledog Fri 28-Feb-25 18:26:13

It was horrible to watch.

Nandalot Fri 28-Feb-25 18:25:02

Zelensky couldn’t get a word in edgeways unless he became aggressive. Trump just wanted this interview to grandstand.
My DH said he is treating it like some reality show.

I’m shocked to the core by the absolute rudeness shown to Zelensky by Trump and Vance this afternoon.I’ve never seen anything like it.
However much they disagreed with things Zelensky said it was a terrible thing to see them try and humiliate him on public tv.
How Zelensky kept calm in the face of it I don’t know.
Even for Trump this was a new low. It should have been talks in private.🤬
