I’m shocked to the core by the absolute rudeness shown to Zelensky by Trump and Vance this afternoon.I’ve never seen anything like it.
However much they disagreed with things Zelensky said it was a terrible thing to see them try and humiliate him on public tv.
How Zelensky kept calm in the face of it I don’t know.
Even for Trump this was a new low. It should have been talks in private.🤬

I suppose military families see things differently perhaps?

Nothing funny about Trump. Sad.

AGAA4 Sun 02-Mar-25 16:07:44

Does Trump not remember how dangerous the USSR was to the west and yet he is helping Putin in his aim to regain it.
Putin will never be an ally of the west.

I agree that the Zelensky-Trump-Vance situation is not ideal.

But a group of grans have absolutely no input into the negotiations.

Granny Gravy, why not have yourself a good long read of the poems of the war poets, Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen. These poems will shatter your illusion that warfare is a matter for mirth.

Caleo Sun 02-Mar-25 16:02:37

Grans for goodness sake stop trivialising with jokes this dangerous turn of events.

"gallows humour" is what lighter moments at death bed are called.

Oh yes, the last words my dear father uttered when he was in the hospice always bring a smile.

The nurse asked him how are you

He replied bloody marvellous we were shocked and amused as he was not one for swearing.

If Vance and Trump had acted like decent diplomatic hosts of a foreign leader their proposal would have been nonetheless an unacceptable proposal.

The help of the US to protect the sovereignty of Ukraine against Putin should not depend on economic rewards . Restraining Putin is a necessity whether or not there is economic reward for the US.

Wyllow3 Sun 02-Mar-25 15:54:55

Vance in some ways is far more dangerous, he provokes, but doesnt lose it like DT.

Iam64 I find Trump and particularly Vance very intimidating. Just a feeling that he is dangerous to women. (Vance)

It was just a bit of levity Claremont. It's the British way in serious situations. I've heard a lot of the jokes that went around in World War 2.

The armed forces are known for their ability to joke in times of adversity.

It’s what gets them through each day.

One of my recurring thoughts after watching that awful meeting, is how anyone who ever had dealings with domestic abusers would see that in Trump and Vance

Couldn't agree more Iam. I just hope it wasn't triggering for anyone. It was gaslighting 101.

Threads meander.

Yes they do. But the extreme seriousness of this one probably should remain on subject, and not the place for silly, not funny jokes.

escaped Sun 02-Mar-25 15:30:43

vote should read come

escaped Sun 02-Mar-25 15:30:00

Woah! Woah!
I don't think the Marsh's vocal pieces will ever be on a par with compositions from great political musicians like Wagner, Eisler, Elgar, Verdi or even Rousseau back in the day. (They're the ones who vote to mind anyway). The Marsh family always pop up at times like this, but they are insignificant and get on my nerves in the bigger picture.

This thread is not about the Marsh family, or their song.
Jokes are not appropriate (I have neither seen or heard it).

Oreo Sun 02-Mar-25 15:25:13

Oh give over Claremont don’t stir the pot.🤬It was a simple expression used by Allira about the Marsh Family songs. They’re not universally loved you know.

Claremont Sun 02-Mar-25 15:21:45

Oh for goodness sake!

It was A JOKE.

However, perhaps not entirely without foundation.

Not a funny one. On the edge of WW3, not not funny at all!

Allira Sun 02-Mar-25 15:17:48

FFS.

foxie48 Sun 02-Mar-25 15:16:42

"I haven't heard their latest effort and won't seek it out but perhaps it's time they went back to their day jobs."

Merely pointing out they already had "day jobs" and yes the expression is "Don't give up the day job"

One of the posters at the Vermont demonstration said 'Zelensky for US president.' Understandable as their own president is pro Russian.

Sorry, that wasn't in reply to your post, AGAA4
