Water rates increase is alarming!

Well, someone has got to pay the shareholders unearned profits. Looks like it's us!

We have a water metre and only pay for what we use. It averages out at about £25 - £28 per month so, if you do the maths, it isn't much different to your new bill.

Well, this charge is for waste-water services only. Because I live in a Park Home (Mobile Home) I pay for water usage direct to the site owners here. And that is rising to £16.40 per month in April, so altogether I will be paying about £44.
So I am very cross!

Our was up too around 53 % (Southern Water) so they want just under £100 per month this is just for the Grey water.
Contacted them, asked about a water meter, had to contact the other Water company who supply the fresh incoming water as they sort out the Meters. This was just last week, an engineer arrived this Wednesday assessed everything and meter will be fitted. We have been advised the rough amount they wanted per month will be about what we will pay per quarter.
Very impressed with the speed of the service.
So think about a meter.

Yes, it's alarming. And the more people install water meters to save money the more likely the companies will put prices up to compensate.

You can blame the Tories for privatising water - simply a licence to print money for a monopoly.

I have a water meter and my monthly charges have gone from £38:85 to £61:50.
I rang United Utilities and was told the rise is due to a national rise to cover essential work and upgrading of the whole system and the fact that I am using more water.
I am being more careful now .

Mine jumped up to despite less usage. If they really are investing in the future - capital projects - as opposed to shareholder payouts I would not mind so much, but googling told me that local water supplier has had to pay fines sewage leakage wise...

I read in the water reports you can sue for damage but its clear the hoops you have to jump through make is near impossible.
(On the radio 4 Archers its a big story atm)

However....having said all that, I'm grateful that mostly what we take for granted and isnt available over the world.

Having a water meter isn’t going to change the mindset of people who aren’t aware of how precious it is.
You only have to look at the attitude towards water consumption on this site.

I forgot to say. If I had my way I would stand all the water companies bosses against a wall and shoot them.

Ours has gone up £18 per month to £46.64, we’ve had a meter for a few years, Southern Water.

Worst decision ever selling off water companies.

We are charged what they estimate a two person household would use on a water meter. It has gone up from £380 to over £500 pa!

We're asking again if they can fit a water meter.

Interesting to hear all your different increases. It certainly varies from area to area.
I've written strong letters to the water company and Ofwat. Probably won't do any good but just makes me feel a bit better to vent my feelings.

I've just checked with DH and ours is £545, the estimated amount that two people on a meter would use.

Unmetered charges are over £900 pa.
