They weren’t even all countries. Tariffs were imposed on two uninhabited islands, and on a US military base. Unresearched, if we are being kind.

The whole point is was that it was entirely random!!

There were no tariffs for Russia, Cuba, Belarus and North Korea😄😄

But he used a formula that took no nuanced approach that you would need to make a sensible decision ( if indeed world wide tariffs can ever be deemed sensible) about each country’s exports to the USA.

Listening and reading as much as I can up until now, I’ve come away so far with a few points mostly from TRIP, but other resources.

The first is that what Trump has done is massive.

The formula he has used is insane. Trump has applied the daft formula across the board regardless of other factors , and is fatal for countries like Lesotho. The trade deficit with the USA is huge because of two factors. Firstly Lesotho is one of the poorest countries on earth and so has little or no buying power. Its exports to the USA is composed almost entirely of diamonds, and the tax imposed by the Lesotho government pays for health, education etc. Cut the exports and Lesotho is floored.

This is going to cause a world economic crises, but unlike previous ones where there were large intellectual figures in the USA willing to work with others like Gordon Brown do not exist in Trumps government

Europe will almost certainly take back power in all areas.

Investment in USA will slow almost to a halt snd slow considerably in the ROW.

Industry will not relocate to the USA as Trump is hoping because of the chaos and turmoil as well as the insecurity factor. No CEO will chance his business in the USA but will almost wait out the three years in the hope that the next administration will be less insane.

Thank you for your honesty, FGT. Makes it more like a dialogue. I do struggle after months of accusations of lying" by our politicians (justified or not) it's hard to accept a defence of Trump who does actually lie (it's so well documented) at times as never lying.

I'm sure Putin has an understudy, a younger look-a-like but no-one could be an understudy for Trump!

Hang on though, in public Macron always looks immaculate, what he does privately is his own business (and if he were vain, wouldn’t he be waxing his chest hair anyway?). I can’t actually think of any other orange, toupee wearing world leaders now, or ever - although there have allegedly been a few who have had plastic surgery, Trump and Putin included. Maybe it’s a macho man thing - publicly strong, privately full of insecurities.

People who voted for Trump voted for a man who mocks people with disabilities. He has an attitude uglier than any tight fitting jacket.

I believe this person is the best option because Biden wasn’t up to it, his minders lied and Kamala was out of her depth with her word salads. However I agree he is something of a ‘big babboon’ (*PoliticsNerd*) and a ‘Giant Wotsit’ (*Casdon*) but then again Lammy isn’t exactly a male model either. We can be deceived by judging books by their cover. Insults can be somewhat childish really.

However (I’m up to the a,b,c bit) I’m not happy that Trump has literally had to fight court cases mischievously generated by the Democrats to get this far and had to sustain a sniper attack at a rally, security (such as it was) provided by said Democrats. I’m not happy that Trump is egotistical, but hey compared to some politicians and their finagling malpractices being exposed I can accept that, plus his locker room talk (a few men, by no means many, indulge in this misogynistic ‘banter’ amongst fellow braves if they think they’re in a safe place to indulge).

I like him. I admire strong men.

Supporting means "I believe this person is the best option, because of.....however I agree with x,y,z, and am not happy with a,b,c - a real world approach to politicians in a democracy
