So at last we know the U.K. is not special and we are being subjected to crippling tariffs. Therefore what should Sir Keir do? I’m thinking of some kind of retaliation.,

I think we also have to factor in that the school holidays have started. 😁

The Trump threads are being trolled on a very regular basis. Same thing happened on MN after he won last time. This time they seem to be being trolled by those anti Trump. I really would urge caution on those threads.

At times such as we are experiencing, extremes do manifest themselves, and there will always pushback. Some pushback is more extreme than others, as we seem to have witnessed recently.

It is mirroring verbally what we saw On Jan 6th. It is a deadly downward spiral, that we must avoid.

It's not nice to be rude but it's not nice to express extreme views and wonder why there is a kick back maybe.

Many people are struggling to keep their heads above water one way and another.

I agree.

Very well expressed glasshalffullagain.

Someone has beaten me to the report button. Has GN been mentioned on a US internet site? We seem to have become popular with some anti-Trump posters whose strong feelings on the subject appear to overpower their good manners toward those who stay polite and goodnatured even though most posts disagree with them.

Are they just taking advantage of the differences of opinion to enjoy attacking at random? I've mostly seen such ignorant vitriol from the "Trump is great!" side, not from the better informed anti-Trumpers.

I think it’s the same jerk who was hassling me yesterday.
New day, new name.

I agree, exactly my first thought.

Trolls are not welcome in GN - suggest passing on by.

Except we do know how this will turn out because this has been done previously in history. It never turned out well. In fact, last time it made the Depression worse.

Yes, and knowing that fact is making MY Depression worse.

Which is why I'm quite envious of FriedGreenTomatoes2 and anyone like them.

I'm envious of FGT2 as well. She remains polite to your unpleasant harassment. This is just chatting, no need to be rude.

Everyone is speculating. No one knows how this will end up. It’s like holding the tail of a tiger. You’d think that Trump wouldn’t be doing this off his own bat. Surely he has economists advising him? But then again look at Starmer with Rachel Reeves. The same thoughts come to mind there. In the meantime everyone is floundering and trying to get a handle on things. Nothing we can all do but wait to see how things pan out.

It is indeed. Thank you very much.
You’re such a charmer.
You may be educated, even highly, but you have no manners. It’s not big and it’s not clever lady.

Well fact is 100 years ago strong tariffs were put in place and that led to recession . Trump is happy the stock market is crashing as all his billionaire buddies can make a killing on it . It has been said he has done it for that reason . Look at MTG she cashed out just before his announcement .

Yes he’s a businessman so his own interests would be at the forefront of his mind, I’m sure.

Anyway it’s very early days so a lot more will unfold over the coming weeks.

According to the BBC this morning Musk has said in his view Europe and the US should move towards a zero tariff situation, and that was his advice to Trump.

I had been thinking, that if tariffs are bad for the world economy, then none should be good?

So he has. According to this clearly written CNN article its a break between him and the President although its a "working towards".

www.cnn.com/2025/04/05/business/musk-tariffs-us-europe/index.html

He also talked about free movement of workers across some borders. But presumably cherry picking just like his "whites only" welcome to SA.

But I can't help thinking he has his own sectors - technology and cars - chiefly on his mind for his recommendations.

Some people are trying to educate themselves about the choices available. Some people stopped doing that decades ago and now believe speculative opinion is all they need. I sadly doubt this will change.
