Bit of a shock to find Dan Norris my MP has been arrested and suspended from the Labour Party following allegations of rape and child sex offences. I thought it was dishonest to take two salaries, one as WECA Mayor and one as an MP. Constituents complained he didn’t reply to them when they wrote to him, but this is something else if true. He is an NSPCC Child Protection Officer as well.

" a nice man"

Like Trump?

This case sounds very distrubing.

He became an MP because people voted for him Nana, the fact that you don't like his views doesn't really impact his right to become an MP if enough people vote for him.

It's astounding that anyone ever did vote him in historically. Thankfully people saw the light & he no longer has a seat. Despicable character.

These are very serious allegations and I'm glad to see that he is suspended.
Who represents the constituents in this situation?

It’s more likely an alleged abuser will deny than that false allegations will be made

Yes, Fried green Tomatoes, i agree with you about Jacob Rees-Mogg, a perfect gentleman, which some use as a term of abuse, and an excellent MP.
With regard to Dan Morris, I know nothing about him, and am always wary about retrospective allegations until the evidence is made available. He has held a number of senior positions, and these allegations have taken a long time to surface.
We shall see.

Jacob Rees Mogg & 'gentleman' aren't comfortable in the same sentence. He's an absolute buffoon & also holds some very questionable values such as fox hunting (cruel & illegal sport). I have no idea how he ever became an MP. He should do some work experience in a homeless hostel or something it might learn him something. Nope.
It isn't unheard of that people are wrongly accused, we got to see what happens.

Iam64 Sun 06-Apr-25 08:08:10

I am no more wary of historical than I am current allegations. There is ample research to help us understand how hard it is for victims to speak out. Children often don’t have the words or comprehension. We’ve seen this frequently in recent years

eazybee Sun 06-Apr-25 08:07:25

I know even less than I thought; Dan Norris, not Morris.

Nana49 Sun 06-Apr-25 08:05:52

Personally I don't believe these allegations.

wyllow very easily it seems look at the church, the schools the children’s homes These low life I have better names but don’t want to get banned seek out these jobs and are often good at them
In my town at the moment we have an ex school teacher with victims coming forward after years and even those who didn’t suffer at his hands are now saying they were always uncomfortable around him
This is nothing to do with a particular political party or a particular religion or a particular job it’s men in a position of power however small
(Off subject…Personal opinion is opposite to FGT ever since I saw toffee nosed JRM asleep in the House with his feet up on the bench in such an arrogant position I have no time for him and now earning more money by putting his family on a tv programme I have even less)

Wyllow3 Sat 05-Apr-25 22:44:49

I cant understand how they can lead that sort of a double life in their head for so long.

Grannybags Sat 05-Apr-25 22:36:48

He’s my MP as well 25Avalon

I’m shocked by this news

Galaxy Sat 05-Apr-25 22:26:32

Not only seeking out specific professions, he has also placed himself in every campaign in relation to children safeguarding.

I really don't think his political party comes into it, FGT.

Abhorrent wherever you find it - dont try to make "political capital" out of it.

I’m not.
My allegiance actually lies with Labour now Wyllow.

I was just pointing out what a nice man I think JRM is.
No political bias intended. Just background really.

M0nica Sat 05-Apr-25 22:21:35

Paedophiles will seek to enter professions that give them ready access to children

What Dan Norris has been charged with, is infinitely more serious than some Reform plonker saying Jimmy Savile is innocent and it is all lies.

We will have Jacob Rees-Mogg back in Parliament within the year representing his previous constintuency.

There was quite a lot of political capital made about the reform MP as far as I could see.
In terms of this kind of behaviour, it is across all political parties.

I didn’t contribute to that thread, but I thought it was about a failure in vetting processes which had they been carried out properly would have revealed before he was allowed to stand that that he supported Jimmy Savile, because he had posted that online? Unfortunately I don’t think a vetting process would catch people who were guilty of offences against children, or of sexual offences, that hadn’t been found out, therein is the rub. These crimes are not aligned to political allegiance, I agree.

Absolutely dreadful.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 05-Apr-25 21:17:52

The NCPCC
Child Protection Officer
A teacher

Frightening c.v. if allegations are true.
Perfect access to children.

Such a shame he won his seat by beating Jacob Rees Mogg by 5,000 votes. JRM is a perfect gentleman. Courteous and honourable. One of the few Tories I really do like.

It is always devastating to know how prolific this type of offence is.

Yes. Wondering what the misconduct was. Very vague.

Yes - it’s shocking how often ‘respectable’ men are found to be involved in sexual abuse
