Article in today's Sunday Times goes to a small town in Texas. Talking to a Trump supporting shopkeeper the interviewer points out that all his stock comes from China, and how much more it will cost him, he hadn't realised, when people do understand then the doodoo will really hit the fan!
The lack of self-education stuns me. We are bad, but basic knowledge in the USA is worse. They atribute so many successes to themselves and failures to others that are just not so. We seem to have a world failure of understanding continuing self-learning, self-study and self-teaching.
It seems (Times News) Musk is looking for an "honorable way out". Some of the devastating cuts to Social Security are quietly being reversed for example. Trump has failed in the one area where people believed his self aggrandisement - that he knew how to run the economy. Two of his top players in his "economics team" have been sidelined.
Re-onshoring was always going to be a popular idea. I like it. I hated watching the off-shoring of the electronics industries that provided the largest amount of employment in the two towns I'm closest too. This lay at the door of Conservatives, national and international. Re-onshoring - the new Conservative idea when they realised the issues with off-shoring - was never possible instantly and causes Trumps base, who rely on the jobs off-shoring did create, to suffer in their bank accounts.
