Set to appear in Court on Friday 13th June. Sunak must have leaked the date of the GE in confidence and some individuals placed a bet … winning money by knowledge they’d been privy to.

Honestly. Disappointed in their cheating behaviour doesn’t even come close.

It's sad isn't it that some of the people we entrust to run our country can't resist making a fast buck by cheating. However I think it's also important to remember that most wouldn't do that. Unfortunately politics is increasingly seen as a "dirty" business and fewer decent people with skills and talent want to become MPs, that's a huge problem for all of us.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 14-Apr-25 13:05:03

Indeed foxie. ✔️

MaizieD Mon 14-Apr-25 13:09:21

You're rather late with this, FGT. It happened in the run up to last year's GE and was discussed at the time...

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 14-Apr-25 13:11:00

Yes but it’s in the news again this morning*MaizieD*! Probably because a Court appearance has been scheduled.

No matter. 😁

Smileless2012 Mon 14-Apr-25 13:11:17

It's just been on the lunch time news Maizie probably because a court date has now been set.

Smileless2012 Mon 14-Apr-25 13:11:46

Crossed posts FGT smile.

But what a strange thing to bet on. Will people gamble on anything? Will bookies accept bets on any bit of news?

Oreo Mon 14-Apr-25 13:54:14

Oh yes Allira I hear it’s good odds that I take in my washing before 3pm today if you want to nip down the bookies.😃

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 14-Apr-25 13:56:29

I’ll put a fiver on it Oreo!

Oreo Mon 14-Apr-25 14:05:30

You can’t go wrong 😄

I guess the people who had the insider knowledge about the election just found it too tempting.

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 14-Apr-25 14:15:18

It's extraordinary, isn't it that people with a very good income would risk so much for a few pounds?
I suppose that they were confident that it would never come to light.

Casdon Mon 14-Apr-25 14:16:15

I’m glad there was only one MP, and one MS. The Tories are in a very bad way in Wales, sad to say this doesn’t surprise me. Not that I think any party is immune to gambling if they get the word on something like an election date, let’s hope there is learning across the board as result of this incident.

eazybee Mon 14-Apr-25 17:49:29

It is shocking because Sunak's MPs did not know the date, which came as a total surprise, yet the insiders made money out of it. Contemptible.

Iam64 Mon 14-Apr-25 18:33:39

Contemptible is right eazybee.
I believe Chocolatelovinggran is correct, they saw an easy buck and foolishly expected to get away with it. Sadly, it Sats so much about their integrity

I feel sorry for Sunak who I believe is a decent man.
