Agree, we don’t have to take her and her friends seriously, yet there is a need to mock their figures, hair and talents , or are their talents reserved for a waving penis ?

Of course we don't have to take them seriously, but they are talented women.

I've no problem with people enjoying an adventure. I believe 52 people have flown above the Kármán line - nothing to do with willy wavers.

I asked a question about extremely wealthy people.
Why do posters twist what others say?

There seem to be one or two Katy Perry fans on here!
I have no idea if Perry pays her due taxes or not or if she donates to charity but it just goes to show that anyone can become rich even with a bare modicum of talent and plenty of chutzpah.

It doesn't mean we have to take her and her friends seriously, unlike the women scientists and astronauts.

Apologies.

I wasn't attempting to twist your question. 'They' was unclear to me. I've no idea who any of these people are - I read. They seem to be women accomplished in their work, who perhaps earn well.

I've no idea at all where willy waving comes happened?

Did they evade taxes to acquire that much wealth?

Of course not. Women earn.

Women are allowed to spend their excess money as they choose.

Oh, for goodness' sake.

BEZOS!

Not clear who 'they' indicated.

I assume Bezos pays taxes legally owed.

Does he avoid as much tax as possible? Of course he does.

Women couldn’t earn their wealth , seems they join harems or find a wealthy penis waver ?

I think Bezos is very good at tax evasion.

No, if you read my post I was answering Maybee's post which was, I think, referring to extremely wealthy people Jeff Bezos who owns Blue Orgin.
Some of the people who went paid for their own flights, others were paid for.

M0nica

It was a vanity project by a rich business man, who is filthy rich because he is the sort of man to expect his fiancee and her hen night friends to pay for themselves.

Come on M0nica all the ^space tourist women* are rich in their own right, why oh why shouldn’t they pay for themselves.

anyone on a hen night pays for themselves but they could not have done it without Bezos' rocket and I bet it was his idea.

I think this stunt was one big step back for momen.

I just don’t understand why people that have more money than they can ever use in a hundred lifetimes don’t use that money to eg provide clean drinking water for third world countries.

You have to understand everyone’s choices if the choices are not breaking laws ?

Bill Gates does.

We have to think the best of them and hope they do both, Maybee.

However, didn't Jeff Bezos go to court to try to prevent his ex-wife getting a fair divorce settlement because she wanted to give a substantial amount of their money to charity?

RosieandherMaw Thu 17-Apr-25 15:16:42

Read my post Anniebach, not on the women themselves but the media circus that surrounds them.

You approve , your choice Maw , for me it was vicious verbal
attack on a small group of women,

RosieandherMaw Thu 17-Apr-25 14:41:27

No, Aniebach
Willy-wavers have always existed and always will. From Henry VIII to Elon Musk via Donald Trump and Jeff Bezos!

Anniebach Thu 17-Apr-25 14:21:38

Really Rosie51 , all the criticism was attempts to save the planet , waving of a penis and a harem was rather drastic surely?

Rosie51 Thu 17-Apr-25 13:54:43

If one of them had been Meghan Markle I wonder if the endorsements would be so enthusiastic. My objection is not the clothing, hair, whatever, it's the absolute enormous carbon footprint for 11 minutes of fun. We're all being told we need to use resources more responsibly to save the planet.
Anniebach you say MayBee an unnecessary trip into space isn’t a good look ‘?
is a motoring holiday, any holiday necessary? no of course not, but none of those would generate the tiniest fraction of a percentage of the carbon footprint this trip did. I take one long haul flight a year to see my son, dil and grandchildren and am reminded of my carbon footprint. I'm not envious of their wealth and I'm sure it was an incredible experience, but would we really encourage these 'trips' to become perhaps a normal daily occurrence for anybody wealthy enough to afford them? Imagine the damage to the environment that would cause.

Norah Thu 17-Apr-25 13:45:24

RosieandherMaw

I don’t think the criticisms are per se of the individuals but of the hype surrounding what was after all only commercial trip to the edge of space, as offered by Blue Origin since it began offering crewed flights in 2021. But of course the passengers aren't just anybody, and their tickets aren't cheap.
No what I found underwhelming was the media hype.
The gushing, the earth kissing, the squealing, the “special outfits” (think ABBA on a bad day) the pseudo philosophising word salad , the totally OTT reaction.
Now let’s think of the many “ordinary” but highly intelligent women who work for NASA, the astronauts who truly pushed the boundaries of space, the space station crew trapped for months , those (19 in total) who lost their lives in space missions of the past such as Apollo-1 and those for whom it is, frankly, their day job.
That we even have a thread entitled Astronaut Katy Perry - perhaps more appropriately “Astronaut??? You’re kidding! “

Agreed, just hype. The title was sarcasm, imo.

Quoting news: "Blue Origin's New Shepard launch vehicle will head to a point 62 miles over the Earth. The New Shepard consists of both a rocket and crew capsule."

"Named after astronaut Alan Shepard, the first American in space, the gum drop-shaped New Shepard launch vehicle is designed to be fully reusable, with a capsule that returns to Earth via three parachutes."

Perhaps crew was a poor word choice - following on crew capsule?

How others spend excess money? No green eyes here. envy I imagine it was a fantastic experience. No pockets in a shroud.

Anniebach Thu 17-Apr-25 13:03:35

MaizieD thinks this was due to posters intelligence or lack
of it

Allira Thu 17-Apr-25 12:08:23

Calling them crew was a big mistake, implying they were somehow qualified as astronauts when they were space tourists/ passengers.

Crew definition:
"a group of people who work on and operate a ship, aircraft, spacecraft etc."

I do think the heading was intended as irony 🙂
