Syracute, it isn’t a pile on, it’s a discussion. In discussions different views are shared as they are here

Doodledog Fri 25-Apr-25 20:26:56

What are you finding irrational?

Nobody, but nobody thinks you have said a word to JKR grin.

Why would you think they might think that? It's comments like that which are irrational. Has anyone ever suggested that thinking everything is about you is bad for your mental health?

Luminance Fri 25-Apr-25 20:24:40

I find it all rather irrational. Are we here to argue or discuss?

I have no involvement whatsoever and have never said a single word to JK Rowling. No matter who it is you think I sound like.

I'll ask again - what colour is the sky on your planet, Luminance? grin

Doodledog Ha! Well, There doesn't seem to be too many people here that do know trans people no. It's little wonder that the propaganda spread about trans people has such a strong effect when people don't know them I suppose.

That's not what I said. I know transpeople myself - working in education I also come across non-binary and 'gender-fluid' people too - maybe more than in MH settings, I don't know? Or maybe the ones I work with are less 'fragile', so aren't in MH settings?

Not that it matters. I don't see the transpeople I know as representative of anything - why would they be, unless you view friends and colleagues or students as specimens. I just see them as people, who (like the other 99.95% of people) have some things in common and others that separate them from one another.

My point is that - maybe before your time on here? - we used to have a few regular posters who prefaced a lot of their points with 'According to all my trans friends. . .' and similar, which made it seem as though they sought out transpeople to befriend, which is a bit odd, surely? It's one thing to meet transpeople as normal members of society - in the workplace, as neighbours etc, but as the same people also pointed out that the 'fuss' was about a tiny minority of people, it puzzled me how those few people knew so many, unless they made a point of seeking them out. Just an observation, though 🤷‍♀️.

Luminance Fri 25-Apr-25 20:17:44

No, I'm not responsible for hate speech, do people really feel it reasonable to be angry with myself about that when I also denounced hate speech against women?

I've read the comments saying I sound like a "TRA" you know but that's not true at all. I don't know what I have said that makes anyone think that?

There are some not very nice people on this thread and they do like to pile on if you don’t agree .with them . It’s not a discussion but aggression . I had to take a break because God forbid you dare to express an opposing view .

I don't wish to be unkind and feel free not to answer Luminance but I wonder if English is your first language? I say that because when you say "I don't know anything about that" you obviously mean "I wasn't guilty of that" but posters mean 'aware of' by 'knowing about'. In other words have you never read a single word online or in newspapers about the abuse JKR gets? I've never had cosmetic surgery but 'I know about it' and have read accounts of successful and unsuccessful procedures.

Yes of course I have heard of it but I don't understand it used in reference to me?

I suppose because you mention slights, insults and vulnerability of transgender people but fail to acknowledge the very real violence and threats directed at the gender critical. So you do 'have knowledge' of the fact that JKR as an example receives these threats whereas you said "I don't know anything about that". Can you see why some of us are confused by your words?

Exactly what I have been thinking, Rosie51.
There is something strange about the phraseology and word order; the posts are frequently confusing and do not respond directly to the comments made or questions asked.

Evidence please?
Can you find those quotes and cite where we can find them?
I must have missed them.

Nobody is accusing you of anything and especially not of addressing JKR. Are you saying you have never heard that JKRowling gets online abuse, death and rape threats from TRAs and their allies?

Galaxy Fri 25-Apr-25 18:25:55

I havegrin. Well she sent me an email once. Well it was her office actually. It was a very nice email. In my head we are best friendsgrin

This gets weirder.
Who has said you have spoken to JKR?

Smileless2012 Fri 25-Apr-25 18:10:50

How can you not know anything about the abuse that's been thrown at JKR Luminance confused.

Mollygo Fri 25-Apr-25 18:07:20

Luminance

I wouldn't do anything like that.

No one has said you would do anything like that, but you said you didn’t know anything about it.
How could you possibly have missed it? It hasn’t just been in social media, it’s been visible on the news.

Luminance Fri 25-Apr-25 17:05:36

I wouldn't do anything like that. Why would I? Perhaps there is someone elsewhere you could direct those comments at? I denounce any kind of hate speech as I have asserted several times.

Mollygo Fri 25-Apr-25 16:50:43

What about the propaganda spread about women, gender critical women, women like JKR?

Luminance
I don't know anything about that.

🤣🤣🤣

You don’t know anything about that Luminance?

ViceVersa Fri 25-Apr-25 16:46:29

Luminance

Iam64 I don't know anything about that. It just seems to rather stand to reason that people who do know trans people who are good people might feel the need to defend them?

Of course they will, that's only natural - just as we should be as quick to condemn the very vocal trans lobby who have been very militant and abusive following the Supreme Court case. It is possible to do both, you know.

Luminance Fri 25-Apr-25 16:18:52

‘Ha’ - given trans people are such a tiny proportion of the population it’s no surprise that some posters don’t have personal relationships. Having said that, several regular posters have a trans grandchild so close personal relations.

What about the propaganda spread about women, gender critical women, women like JKR
