It’s the idiotic policies of Miliband and Rayner, it will be the undoing of the Labour Party, along with the small boat chaos.

I agree it’s a protest vote, like Brexit and to some extent Trump was. Many people are feeling disenfranchised because the privileged impose policies which don’t affect themselves on the underprivileged then portray the underprivileged as stupid or deplorable for trying to speak up for their perceived interests. There’s also a nation state democracy versus less democratic, more remote supra national order struggle going on in which many feel left behind and unheard. Many ordinary people and their don’t travel abroad and are attached to their local areas and nation, This is the somewheres versus anywheres (socially and economically mobile) divide in political interests. Politicians on all sides need to recognise the lived experience of underprivileged and address this so that fringe parties don’t scoop up the votes. Starmer, apart from some clearly empty posturing, is not doing this. The MSM has reported his massively low popularity rating, which feeds into the Reform boost.

I will be surprised if Reform announce local policies to protect the poor and vulnerable.
Their supporters are primarily interested in controlling immigration, which was also the primary interest of most Brexit supporters.

You might be surprised to know that there are a large number of voters in Lincolnshire who are very angry at the expansion of solar panel farms.
They also point out that we, the uk should be growing more of our own food while at the same time covering the county that once fed the uk.

I still believe this is going to be a much more concerning day for the Tories than it is for Labour. Holding on to three mayoral seats against the odds is good news for Labour, and I’m not surprised at them losing Amesbury’s seat in the circumstances - the seats of disgraced MPs usually do change hands at by elections. As I said earlier in the thread, Labour will be expecting to do poorly, but the Tories badly need to have some good news today, which I hope they get somewhere.

It is going to be bad for Tories for sure, the local leader of the Tory group defected to Reform, no result yet but is highly likely to get elected.
The result might overturn the slim Liberal majority, becoming Tory/Reform dominated.

FWIW my answer to your question is:

People have short memories; they’ve been indoctrinated by a constant barrage of right wing media & SM against Labour; people expected the new Labour government to change the country overnight; issues such as immigration have been blown out of proportion by SM, MSM & Reform.

Reporting on what Labour are doing, pensioners, PIP, illegal immigration rising, is it all lies then. Business going broke because of Reeves raising NI, joblessness, all lies are they. Think not. It shows the rising anger in places like Grimsby, who only last year elected another Labour MP. Yet they have become sick of this Labour Government in such a short time.

That was to no one in particular.

If Councillors continue to allign themselves with national parties, people will continue to bear that in mind.

Just heard it was TV licence and PIP that were the issues on the doorstep.

Much jubilation in that area, yes 6 votes and believe me the ones that could not be bothered will be out in force next time to add to reform. Reform placards were in many front gardens

The main issue was migration.

I shall watch the new Reform councillors with interest as their policies are a complete mystery to me at the moment.

The only ones I do hear are policies they would espouse if in government, and when they are asked about these policies they row back on them which is always a bit weird.

For example health insurance, which Farage has always said must be insurance based, but recently one of Reforms MPs denied this.

Brexit is a total busted flush, but Farage continues banging this drum.

And don’t even try to get your head around their economic policies - it is too scary.

I note that Farage is saying that Reform is now the official opposition😄😄. Getting a tad overexcited at regaining an MP and getting back to the heady heights of 5!

He will nevertheless be all over the media like a rash, with very little scrutiny of his policies. The media are doing the voting population no service by continually being so passive when interviewing Farage,
