Two successful large western powers, both solidly rejected Trump to the extent that both Trump supporting leaders lost their seat.

What on earth is wrong with the voter in the. U.K.?

Are they as daft as the MAGA lot?

Um, it's obviously a generic and unkind term to describe other human beings who none of us have met.

No it’s a factual description of how they enter the U.K. in order to claim asylum.

Boat:
a vehicle for traveling on water, esp. one that is not very large.

So people seeking asylum might work then?

What is it about the fact that these desperate people are trafficked by unscrupulous gangs for money which keeps them and/or their families in debt to the for many years in order to have a space on a small boat that you cannot admit to?

Desperate people arriving by boat = asylum seekers

Um. A person who arrives on a boat perhaps?

lafergar Wed 07-May-25 20:32:00

What on earth is a boat immigrant? Would it be a Syrian family for example? A lone Mum from Eritrea who I met recently? A young man from Sudan? The disabled older woman from Albania?

LizzieDrip Wed 07-May-25 19:51:20

I realise that Oreo.

Oreo Wed 07-May-25 19:46:10

Not everyone has your touching faith in the motives of all the mainly young men who arrive here illegally by the boatload every day LizzieDrip wink

LizzieDrip Wed 07-May-25 19:32:25

^Who knows what their real intentions are;
often dont have proper paperwork; may not have many qualms about other illegality either^

Facts???

Yes, they arrive here ‘illegally’ because there is no legal route to apply for asylum in the UK from counties such as Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan. Fact!

You really dont know the difference?

Immigrants -
here to work. And in jobs that are needed doing.
here legally
gone through the right channels
have good intentions
have proper paperwork
I could go on

Boat immigrants - arrived illegally
Who knows what their real intentions are
often dont have proper paperwork
arrived illegally, so may not have many qualms about other illegality either

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
But facts aren’t always appreciated 😄

fancythat Wed 07-May-25 18:58:31

I would also add, conspiracy style, does a gover nment have intentions for boat immigrants?

We have a thick rump of them, concentrated in the areas that people leave if they can. It's pretty sad that although we offer free education for at least 13 years there are so many uneducated and ill informed citizens.

fancythat Wed 07-May-25 18:55:48

1. I know that. Doesnt mean they didnt arrive illegally, because they did.

2. who knows? Some maybe.

3. hmm. not buying that. most people are aware of trouble brewing and would pick up the most basic of paperwork.

4. definitely yes

5. see above

1) Boat immigrants - arrived illegally:
because there is no legal route to apply for asylum in the UK from counties such as Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan

2) Who knows what their real intentions are:
to seek refuge and safety

3) often don't have proper paperwork:
because they have fled their homeland without it

4) arrived illegally, so may not have many qualms about other illegality either:
Really?

5) Walk a mile in their shoes

^Most people who say they deserve to be here are hypocrits as they don't want them in their own spare room, street or town^

Sazz1 you must have incredible access to the views of most people who support asylum seekers & immigrants, in order to make this claim and accuse us of hypocrisy.

I wonder how you know this?

Speaking for myself (which is all any of us can really do) I live in a town alongside many immigrants. They are welcomed in my street and my town. Indeed, their culture is celebrated and we now have two new Asian / Caribbean supermarkets. Brilliant! No hypocrisy heresmile

Immigrants or boat immigrants?
Night and day difference in my book.

The Scottish Whisky Association are pleased saying it will increase trade and UK jobs. Their Chair said it was a “game changer” for the industry.
Let’s applaud something positive for a change.

Not me - thanks to J52 for the research apart from my research about just how many papers ignored the facts..

Facts appear to be anathema to many these days!

Brexit was meant to free the UK to make trade deals with other countries and we have made one. Hurrah! A boost for the whisky industry for starters.
