Trump withdrew his pick for U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Ed Martin, who defended the actions of Jan. 6 rioters. The president said he will announce a new nominee soon and that Martin will go to the main Justice Department. [Democracy Docket 8 May 2025]

Martin has gone too far for some Republicans. It wasn't just the defending of rioters.

"Among them: Martin's outspoken advocacy for defendants charged in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol; his past praise for an alleged "Nazi sympathizer"; and a series of letters he sent to medical journals, Wikipedia's leadership and members of Congress, which many interpreted as threats"

"Before his appointment, Martin promoted conspiracy theories about the Jan. 6 attack, including the claim that federal agents instigated the violence"

But he's been replaced with yet another Fox News host, Jeanine Pirro, a Trump loyalist who helped promote the false theory that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.

Thanks Willow. It's good to be able to expand the legal findings. I did wonder if I should put the legal findings under a single heading. What do you think?

tbh PoliticsNerd my personal view, I think you would probably get more response putting it on the Trump thread because it's one of the factors in the big jigsaw puzzle of Trump's legal and political dealings and thats my level of interest, others might respond differently.

I'll do that Willow, thank you. I didn't want to disrupt an interesting and, for me, educational thread but if I keep it to referenced information it should be okay, I think.
