Post Office scandal rumbles on

There are still far too many loose ends that should have been tied up long ago. There are issues of accountability that remain unresolved.

I gather that Horizon related claims are complicated and in many cases the compensation, when it has been paid out, not only falls short but is also seriously eroded by legal costs by the time it is finally received.

It is a very sad reflection on the Post Office that they chose to believe that an unfeasible number of employees were fiddling large sums of money rather than the fact that the system was at fault. It was particularly sickening that Post Office end of year profits were for many years bolstered by money that had been "recovered" from the legitimate earnings of so many employees.

Or from their savings.

Have lessons been learned? No evidence for this so far.

How is this allowed to happen? It isn't a bargaining market and they should be paid the compensation they are owed, immediately, because the longer the Post Office waits the more expensive it will become.
And what has happened to that women whose name I forget, (Paula Vennells?) the ex-priest? Has she been sentenced yet, or sacked even?

Governments (and schemes devised by government as in the case of the PO) are always slow to pay compensation. They wait so claimants die and drag out the process to tire claimants.

I think it was ITV that made the series about this.
In some ways it doesn't surprise me at all- the establishment in this country still wields that power that says it's ok to lie and some people (them) are worth more than others.
I listened to a lot of the enquiry and what comes across to me is the sheer incompetence of the people at the top, and their complete inability to accept responsibility.
Add to that their greed at getting such massive bonuses and their determination to keep them.
This country is rotting from the inside but let's blame the immigrants, eh?
The justice system in this country is a joke and needs radical reform...

Sir Alan Bates has revealed that his recent offer in relation to the Post Office debacle is less than half of his claim. He had previous offers starting at one-sixth of his claim and upon his refusal it increased a little more and so it goes on. He said they are making it a 'take it or leave it' offer to those people treated so cruelly by the Post Office. How many will accept far less than they deserve just to draw a line under the entire shambles and move on with their lives. So much for the promises made after the BBC drama shone a light on what had happened. Everyone involved with this whole sorry tale should hang their heads in shame.
For pity's sake pay these people the full amount they justly deserve.
