What do you think happened to make her slap her husband as they got off the plane?
My opinion: he told the crew to open the door before she had put her wig on !
She had probably taken it off to sleep it is a long flight to Hanoi and had woken up grumpy ?🙄 and lost her cool at being rushed.
He did not look happy at all clenched fist as they walked away from the plane.

Sorry I’ve just seen that the surgeon has been sentenced to 20 years in jail after pleading guilty to to 299 charges of child sex abuse. Given the fact he’s 74 I hope he remains behind bars for the rest of his natural life.

Cateq Wed 28-May-25 15:32:06

Given the recent court cases in France about rape etc I’m sure the French people have greater concerns than the state of the Macron’s marriage. The lack of information on the current case of the doctor who abused children in his care and the cover up by the establishment must be a concern to the French public, such as who knew what he was doing, why no action was taken when it was brought to their attention needs answered. I just wonder if the same thing could’ve or is hating British hospitals just now.

We'll never know and I don't want to, their business. Life carried out in the public eye must be very difficult without all the speculation.

escaped Wed 28-May-25 15:26:42

I just don’t see any point raking over something that wasn’t an offence under French law when it happened over 30 years ago
I won't doubt you if you have categorical evidence that it wasn't an offence under French law at the time, Casdon, but are you aware of the Gabrielle Russier very similar case, around 1968, I think? She was given a prison sentence. Her pupil was 16 years old for the same offence.

The whole of GN would grind to a halt if we only commented on people over whom we have jurisdiction. I do judge teachers who have relationships with pupils and I judge those who hit their partner in the face.

foxie48 Wed 28-May-25 14:57:53

Well I didn't say that I asked if there is evidence of a sexual relationship and it seems there isn't. It's not against the law to fall in love with a much younger person what is illegal is acting upon it and there's no evidence they did.

Casdon Wed 28-May-25 14:55:37

Sorry I we now saying that it us OK for teachers to have relationships with 15 year olds as long as they stay together.

I didn’t say that, if that’s what you were inferring Galaxy. I just don’t see any point raking over something that wasn’t an offence under French law when it happened over 30 years ago - if indeed anything sexual did happen when Macron was a minor, which we don’t know. Applying our own views to this is fine, but judging people by them is pointless when we have absolutely no jurisdiction.

Galaxy Wed 28-May-25 14:51:29

Sorry terrible typos but presumably the point is clear.

I’m astonished that people are making light of this example of domestic abuse, even suggesting Macron deserved it because of something he’d said or done. Would anyone suggest that if he’d hit her, she must have done something to provoke it? That argument is so out of date, we’ve stopped blaming the victim years ago.

My psychologist son said that reading their body language, it’s highly unlikely to be the first time this has happened. It seems a pretty appalling thing to me that a head of state is being abused by their partner.

👏👏👏

vegansrock Wed 28-May-25 14:37:41

They may have met when she was a teacher and him a pupil, but that was 30 years ago. He is now a competent man in his 40s and if he didn’t want to be in the relationship no doubt he is capable of making that decision.

Anniebach Wed 28-May-25 14:34:20

Agree foxie , in an earlier post I.spoke of the recently released , the man who took Richard Burton into his home,
educated him, was his voice coach, found him parts in stage plays, never talk of abuse , now ‘must have been, why else would the man have done it’

Casdon Wed 28-May-25 14:33:40

The age of consent in France is 15.
According to AI ‘In France, any sexual activity with a person below the age of 15 is considered a crime, with the exception of a narrow "Romeo and Juliet" clause that allows for consent if the age difference is within five years. Historically, the age of consent in France was set at 11 in 1832, increased to 13 in 1863, and then 15 in 1945. The current law, making sex with a minor an automatic offense, was amended in 2021. ‘
Macron is 47, so this occurred over 30 years ago, when it was not an automatic offence. As they have been together for over 30 years, the water under the bridge is so far gone it’s now part of the ocean.

foxie48 Wed 28-May-25 14:25:39

Has anyone a shred of evidence that they started a sexual relationship whilst he was 15 and she was his teacher? No? So it's all speculation. It's an unusual relationship but it has endured.

escaped Wed 28-May-25 14:19:55

For anyone interested, this is the current law in France, and I am quickly translating here:

sex with a minor aged over 15 years is punished with 5 years imprisonment and a fine of 45 000€ when committed by a full aged person who abuses the authority of the position conferred on them. ie. a teacher.

I was teaching in France in 1980s and my recollections are that it was a similar case then, (though we didn't have euros then!), but I would need to check it.

This sort of bitching makes me so glad I live an anonymous life. So cruel. She looks amazing. But that’s not enough…

escaped Wed 28-May-25 14:06:31

I'm not interested in the Macrons' love life or quarrels. However, there are interesting wider points worthy of discussion in this thread.

grandMattie Wed 28-May-25 14:02:59

Mountains/molehills. And just blown out of proportion.
Totally uninterested

escaped Wed 28-May-25 13:57:16

I think the age of consent at 15 has no bearing if the adult is a person in authority, because it is an abuse of trust. This applies in France.

Labradora Wed 28-May-25 13:18:04

I made a light-hearted earlier comment about Pres Macron having provoked it by complimenting other women ( like a typical Frenchman cf I live in France, am 72 and frankly no longer any oil painting and my dentist flirts with me)
I had not thought of the abuse angle.Naturally abuse and violence is never justifiable no matter who dishes it out.Re their original getting together , the pupil/teacher relationship apart , I think 15 might have been the age of consent in France 30-ish years ago when this happened. No one knows when they first had sex except them , as well !!!!
They have endured as a couple , haven't they ? E Macron is a handsome man and could have exited the marriage for other partners any time he liked.
I feel rather sorry for the weight of criticism Mme Macron has had to endure for the earlier part of their relationship possibly being now viewed out of its chronological cultural context.
Also she gets terrible criticism for her appearance ( she looks OK to me wish I was that slender and well groomed) and must be so hurtful , being so public, with the age gap.
Hadn't thought of dementia!!!
Hope Not.
Only sayin'.........

woodenspoon Wed 28-May-25 12:57:49

The look on his face when he realised the door to the plane was open and everybody had seen it, was a picture. Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors or, in this case, open doors. Like with all these things there’s more to it than meets the eye and the general public will be unlikely to find out the truth.

keepingquiet Wed 28-May-25 12:51:08

The French are different though aren't they? Aren't they...?

It doesn’t matter if it’s a man or woman doing the hitting, it’s bang out of order!

Pardon the pun

It was unpleasant to see Millie22. It’s highly unlikely to be an isolated incident. It occurred on a plane with staff present. Disinherited behaviour so probably not a one off
