What do you think happened to make her slap her husband as they got off the plane?
My opinion: he told the crew to open the door before she had put her wig on !
She had probably taken it off to sleep it is a long flight to Hanoi and had woken up grumpy ?🙄 and lost her cool at being rushed.
He did not look happy at all clenched fist as they walked away from the plane.

They think that BM is really a fella

Who are “they” ?
Do you mean you?
Or are you just happy to spread scurrilous gossip?

There has been considerable speculation for years about that very subject. Scurrilous gossip it may well be, but it's been all over the internet for years.

So let’s spread it a bit more shall we?

I expected better on Gransnet.

Where did I say that? I'm just pointing out that that 'gossip' has been circulating widely on social media for some time now, so it's not something any poster on GN has suddenly invented.

Mr and Mrs Johnson didn’t meet when he was 39 and teaching a 15 year old Carrie. The power imbalance is obvious. There are good reasons why teachers who seduce adolescents are prosecuted.
Mr and Mrs Macron’s relationship has endured. I do not believe this is the first time slapping/pushing has occurred.

People fall in love for all sorts of reasons. A previous work colleague was in a relationship with someone over 20 years her junior, they're still together, she's in her 80s and he's utterly devoted to her. I've no idea what happened to Macron and his wife and no one on this forum does either.

The age gap is about the same between Boris Johnson and his third wife, yet that hardly gets a mention let alone an eyebrow raise. Indeed people on here gush about their family.

Indeed, vegansrock, because for many people it's family that makes things more respectable, or more acceptable.

If you read around the books on Brigitte's and Emmanuel's earlier years, it was the decision of Macron's mother to send him away to Paris in order to bring closure on their relationship. The reason being, that his mother knew Brigitte would be very unlikely to bear him a child, and that might impede him in his future career.

As it turned out, the mother was wrong on that one.

Carrie wasn't 15 and Boris wasn't her teacher.

That’s because it’s still accepted that older men have younger wives/girlfriends, whereas a woman with a chap 20 or so years younger than herself still looks like she’s out with her son.

Not PC, but true.

Plus we have not seen photos of Carrie giving Boris a slap, not in public anyhow.

I remember the outrage when Charles Saatchi was photographed with his hand around Nigella’s throat - how is this different?

escaped Wed 28-May-25 07:00:27

The whole answer he gave to that interview sounded ridiculous.
He had no choice really. He had to come up with an acceptable story after the Élysée Palace had initially claimed that the clip was fake. The trouble is, that the explanation was not acceptable to many given his shocked behaviour and subsequent anger.

With his upcoming visit to the UK in July, I think Macron's mannerisms with his wife are going to be heavily scrutinised and he will be desperate to have the incident well buried before then. French newspapers will shrug it off fairly easily, but here in the UK things are different in terms of the interest shown in political figures' personal lives

I have to say, I really don't understand their relationship on many different levels.

Anniebach Wed 28-May-25 02:44:55

I am so sorry for both , their marriage so in the public eye, age gaps do cause public questioning, is it not possible they love each other, a film about Richard Burton made recently has brought questions about the teacher who became his guardian, do some think the same about Mr Tom and William

Mt61 Wed 28-May-25 00:51:32

OldFrill

He was shocked when he realised the camera was there.
He initially lied and said the film was fake, when that was disproved he made light of an argument they were having.
It's really noone's business, l doubt he wears the jackboots in the bedroom.

The whole answer he gave to that interview sounded ridiculous. His body language said otherwise.

Iam64, thank you for your post at 20:18:41, I was beginning to think it was just me. Nothing about this relationship would be so easily accepted if the roles were reversed. Don't we all teach young children that hitting is unacceptable, what justifies an adult doing so?

Poor Brigitte, how awful to have your life publicly disected the world over!
It's hard enough being a woman without being under that level of scrutiny! 🤨

Poor Brigitte? She groomed a schoolboy when she was his teacher. No sympathy from me.

RosieandherMaw Tue 27-May-25 22:41:13

Morecambe and Wise used to do something similar. grin

SueDonim Tue 27-May-25 21:48:27

I’m astonished that people are making light of this example of domestic abuse, even suggesting Macron deserved it because of something he’d said or done. Would anyone suggest that if he’d hit her, she must have done something to provoke it? That argument is so out of date, we’ve stopped blaming the victim years ago.

My psychologist son said that reading their body language, it’s highly unlikely to be the first time this has happened. It seems a pretty appalling thing to me that a head of state is being abused by their partner.

Can I borrow your wig?😄

Such very thick hair which always looks the same?
