It’s not just the Heroin or Cannabis its the quantity of synthetic drugs that are easy to manufacture as well, the cost of production is very low yet sells for vast sums. That’s an even bigger risk, while we condone drug use I really don’t see it getting better.

In the past, there were 'Opium dens' where people were able to use drugs in privacy and safety. If we were to return to that policy, would drug-taking be less of a problem?

Well, you did sound dismissive, Monica. I got the impression that saying anything positive about our armed forces was distasteful to you. Apologies if I’m wrong.

I cannot imagine why you ever thought that. I come from an army family and have close friends, in one family two generations who have either commanded Polaris submarines or been responsible for their safety at sea. I have never ever said or written anything negative about the armed services.

On the other hand my view of them is reasonably well informed, so at times I will criticise them when others might not. or as in this case sound dismissive about something that is just the navy doing its everyday job that we pay them for - and as I said, 3 or 4 silly girls who get caught can be carrying just as large a quantity of illegal drugs.

They aren't called the Senior Service for nothing wink

Well done to the crew of HMS Lancaster. It is a constant battle.

Every big drug haul grabbed is a job well done in my book😃

Considering the number of huge drug hauls made on an almost daily basis by navies and Customs and Excise people, it is amazing so much stsill gets through.

I am not dismissing the navy success, but combatting the drugs trade at sea is one of their tasks, there is nothing exceptional about it, and in the last few weeks a cluster of silly little British girls in Sri Lanka, Georgia and somewhere else, between them were smuggling a similar weight of drugs when they were caught.

It's good news to know that countries are working together to disrupt the drug trade. Well done the Royal Navy.

Well done the RN and the intelligent services supplying them with the necessary information!

Every drug haul found and destroyed is a win for the authorities.

Unfortunately the drug barons will be loading another shipment before this one is ashore.

Disregarding the specific drugs, when I saw the thread title, I thought they must have been collecting Marydoll’s prescriptions! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes, I know where it was, but I don’t think the fact that the drugs may not have been intended for the U.K. detracts from their achievement. They were intended for vulnerable and exploited users somewhere.

But not in British waters. It was patrolling the Arabian Sea.

There is no reason tothink that the drugs were intended for the UK market specifically.
