Wow. Just wow. What a fantastic operation in destroying so many Russian planes. Just reading about it, it's like a James Bond plot.

Cossy Mon 02-Jun-25 12:04:17

Whilst I normally wouldn’t commend killings, I do agree with you!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 02-Jun-25 12:06:11

My goodness warfare has changed so much.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 02-Jun-25 12:06:33

Technology is the way forward in modern warfare, along with cyber attacks.

Well done President Zelenskyy πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Aveline Mon 02-Jun-25 12:07:31

Were people killed? It was the thought of all those roofs of little huts opening simultaneously and releasing drones that was so striking. What an operation to smuggle them all in without raising any suspicion. I bet there'll be films made about it.

ronib Mon 02-Jun-25 12:11:21

Am a bit conflicted about this - Putin will take his revenge? When will this ever end?

NotSpaghetti Mon 02-Jun-25 12:13:19

Here's an interesting article about the strikes with images of the containers.

I hope it makes Purin realise that Ukraine is not as diminished as he thought!

petra Mon 02-Jun-25 12:14:50

What we want now is more attacks like this one.
When I hear of these brave operators inside Russia I can’t imagine what it must feel like.
They drove that truck 5,000 KLM inside Russia.
Keep going lads πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

It's so intractable - but the Ukraine has a right to defend its very existence.

It looks like Trump has given up on the negotiation side, but unless its changed since early May, its still selling military defence and hardware to Ukraine because they signed the minerals deal.

And have been making noises about sanctions.

JenniferEccles Mon 02-Jun-25 12:45:50

Well done Ukraine indeed.
This was eighteen months in the planning apparently and perfectly executed it seems.

Hopefully it will send a strong message to the US to not give up on them.

Ukraine certainly does have cards after all, Mr. Trump

NotSpaghetti Mon 02-Jun-25 12:56:54

petra you are right.
The Ukrainian people have been so very brave.
The courage there is phenomenal.

Well done to the Ukrainians as they have suffered too much and enough is enough!

A fantastic military operation.
In much the same way as Israeli military organised the op against hezbollah with the exploding pagers.

Oreo Mon 02-Jun-25 13:32:38

Bet there’s the sound of grinding teeth in the Kremlin right now.😁

keepingquiet Mon 02-Jun-25 13:38:53

Russia is not as secure as it was. It is still possible for Ukraine to 'win' this war.
Yes, Putin may well retaliate but he will have been weakened by this and sadly this can only help the Ukraine cause.
The worry for Putin is what else are Ukraine and the allies planning?

Maremia Mon 02-Jun-25 15:23:42

Did Zelensky hold any cards? Yes he had the Ace of Drones.

NotSpaghetti Mon 02-Jun-25 15:28:36

Oooh this is a good article about it:

Zelensky is a strong resilient man and after being humiliated by Trump and Vance he has shown that Ukraine is not done yet.
Putin must be furious.

NotSpaghetti Mon 02-Jun-25 15:34:13

According to Zelenskyy they only attacked military targets and all their people got out of Russia safely the night before the attack. He doesn't say if these people were Ukrainian or Russian.

Sarnia Mon 02-Jun-25 15:38:14

I bet that made Vladimir choke on his cornflakes. Putin must have thought the Ukraine would have been no match for Russia but full marks to President Zelensky and his country for resilience in the face of a bully.

I'd hoped it was military targets. Trump has been complaining of Putin targeting civilians so it's a very asute move. (And on humanitarian grounds I applaud)

This needs to stop now. I don't think we should be building up our defenses either. We should be spending money on education and health. We should be paying our doctors and teachers a decent wage not getting involved in wars. Have we learned absolutely nothing from history? Putin can't even defeat Ukraine, so why is he such a threat to the rest of Europe?

Aveline Mon 02-Jun-25 16:14:32

Of course we should be spending money on health and education but men will always be starting wars and fighting. It's incomprehensible to me but it seems to be unavoidable throughout history and on into the future.

Because if Ukraine stops fighting Putin wins the territories and in order to consolidate his winnings he will go after more territory?
It is a bit like saying lets buy lots of new books for the schools and then realising the schools have been taken over by a nasty dictator who then shuts down the schools and ships the children off to secret locations in his own country...
do you know how many Ukrainian children have been kidnapped and taken to Russia??

AGAA4 Mon 02-Jun-25 16:26:42

The German defence minister thinks Putin will attack NATO countries in the next four years. That means we will be involved in a war with Russia.
Russia is building a lot of new tanks and ammunition and not all is going to Ukraine.
We need a strong defence if this happens and it has to be a priority.
