Just watching what happened in down-town Los Angeles yesterday as ICE, ATF and others conducted raids against immigrants and others.

The Los Angeles citizens protested through the night against the military-style raises. In a statement from Kathryn Barger, a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, she says:

I am aware of today's DHS ICE enforcement actions that took place in Los Angeles. At this time, my office is actively monitoring the situation. While I fully support the enforcement of our nation’s laws, I also believe it is essential that actions taken by federal agencies are conducted with transparency, fairness, and respect for the rights and dignity of all individuals. My priority remains the safety and well-being of all residents of Los Angeles County.

Not this trip. I am on a student tour so we are all pre-planned. Learned the tube and seeing hotspots only.

I will be back with my husband at some point and get to see everything I want to.

Spent some time gawking at Buckingham and the Tower today. Trying to get into the National Gallery tonight.

It is a big deal. It reminds us we can be hopeful.

London, by the way, is kicking my behind. The temp I can handle. The humidity? I am not used to that.

I am sitting outside Buckingham Palace though, so I am happy. smile

Thanks imaround. Have a wonderful time!

I see that there is a suggestion that ICE agents will be arrested if it is deemed that they are acting illegally.

Are you going to Hever imaround?

Trump has approved the plan to attack Iran but so far has done nothing. He hasn't asked permission from the UK to use their base at Diego Garcia to attack Iran which they would have expected.

Would he need permission to use Fairford?

I'm not sure how important the turning away of the ICE agents from the LA Dogers stadium will be perceived in America but it seemed like a fundamental act of resistance to me. I hope the feeling that such resistance can take place spreads to others, but it's a very scary thing to do under current conditions.

So much for no war under his watch!

Well, yes, splitting his own followers is this clever!

That is great news! I am so excited to come. On my bucket list for sure.

If you are here this week you are in for some good weather.

The message I am seeing is Trump is warming to the idea of getting involved. I haven't gone looking for information though, so I don't know more than the headlines right now.

Enjoy your holiday😄

Just wondering what you are hearing about Trump and Iran?

imaround Wed 18-Jun-25 17:25:18

He already changed his mind on the farm workers last I heard.

There is a reason why people call him TACO. It stands for Trump Always Chickens Out. He does have a tendency to flip flop.

Trump's team used the word rebellion in court yesterday at the hearing about California's National Guard. The words they are using are invasion, insurrection and now rebellion when it comes to the protests. He has directed federal agents to Democrat cities to "round up migrants". Kristi Noem has said these cities need to be liberated from the Democrats.

Language is so important. Everyone should be paying attention.

I am out for the week. I am sure I will check in at some point, but you will probably have info before I do.

I hope there will be a moment in time when this vindictive, thin-skinned, semi-literate, narcissist, who - as some political commentator said - behaves like the world is his personal fiefdom - can be held to account by those brave enough to say sod the diplomacy.

“He has decided to stop ICE raids at farms and factories IIRC. Seems like those illegal immigrants are safe enough to be in the US illegally. /s”

It’s taken him a while to realize that businesses don’t like their cheap Labour taken away, those business owners voted for him too.

I see that Trump is hinting at getting involved with Iran.

In the meantime, he has ordered ICE to target Democratic cities first.

Sorry, Kristi is going to "liberate" democratically run cities. hmm

NYC Comptroller (Democrat) was in court today because he refused to let unidentified ICE agents take a man for deportation without a warrant.

Trump's team has said they will move into NYC, Chicago and somewhere in California. All Democratic strongholds. Kristi Noem has said that their goal is replace elected officials in these areas.

They have arrested the man who shot Democratic officials. The article has more information on the timeline and photos of his security vehicle.

Being held by federal authorities, but has been charged with state level charges and a $5 million bond.

I am seeing that federal murder charges are coming. I will have to research it to see how that would fit together and not trigger double jeopardy. I am sure they have a way, I just do not know what it is.

Final estimated count of the protests is 13.14 million nationwide. 3.9% of the population. grin

We continue to fight on!

That is good Lady!

Random, but in case you want to see why he makes some of the policy decisions that he does.

It's all about the bills. Dollar bills.

A massive conflict of interest, at best.

I loved one of the clues in today’s Guardian Quick Crossword:

A Trump ordeal (anag) - impervious to attacks (6-6)
The answer is:
Armour plated

Dickens, factually is correct. Many deported had no criminal record. They have also been rounding up migrants who are here legally.

The narriative they are putting out that all these people are dangerous criminals is false. And even if one is a dangerous criminal, they still have the right to due process.

I appreciate the information you give us, and your observations on this thread imaround.

There are occasions when I feel that what is happening isn't real - can't be happening - and am alarmed at the realisation that it did and it is... and most of all that Trump seems to be so easily able to subvert the law, contravene the Constitution, and create chaos - not only in the US, but economically around the world.

In any nation, the extremely rich and powerful basically control its political and economic affairs - but they can only do this via the support of the electorate, that's the worrying aspect.

I recently saw a cartoon drawing. A medieval king was atop a turret of his castle nervously looking down on an angry, rebellious mob with pitchforks and fiery torches gathered below. Looking nervously and questioningly at the courtier beside him, said courtier advised, "just tell those with the pitchforks that those with the torches want to steal their pitchforks".
