This is why it is a big deal that federal agents and police officers wear masks and do not identify themselves. No one with any sense trusts the police, federal agents, nor the military right now.

I might be losing my grip but I felt tearful hearing the news on the political shootings in Minnesota. Also, the advice from the sherif that if a police officer arrived at your house, call the office to ensure he’s genuine. He added officers are working in pairs.

There have been a number of shootings. I believe one couple have died. It was also reported that the shooter was dressed as a policeman and had police id(possibly fake). It was said on twitter that he had a list of representatives of government. This is 'allegedly' because it's not yet verified. Nonetheless, USA is heading to a very dangerous place to be.

I heard the State Representative that was shot has died.

It was a politically motivated assassination.

Gosh - the poor. Man is dead and it is being considered a politically motivated assassination.

I do hope they recover.

I also saw someone being arrested by a Marine. Apparently the first time this has happened in the history of the USA.

A man posing as a police officer in Minnesota has shot people at the homes of several Democratic lawmakers in Minneapolis.

Republican sheriff in Florida said it is not illegal to run over protesters, or something along those lines.

The same Sheriff, or a different one, said in a press briefing that his officers will shoot protestors dead.

Going to be a long day IMO. Praying for peaceful resistance without law enforcement escalating things.

It's ironic that Elon Musk predicted civil war in the UK under Starmer, yet here we have the very beginnings of such a war in the USA.

It seems as though Trump, his backers and donors, are determined to basically wipe out all and any opposition. By fair means or foul. Even peaceful protestors will not be safe.

I watched in utter amazement as a senator was pushed to the floor and handcuffed, just for protesting😮😮. I can’t think of an equivalent here, except I suppose imagine a member of the opposition say Sunak or Badenoch being arrested and led away from the House of Commons in handcuffs because they protested at what Starmer is doing.

Update- in the middle of the night, Mr Trump tweeted ( yes, that how policy changes are announced in the USA these days) that he may be reigning in ICE activities to allow workers to ...um...work.
I think he may have heard from a few employers about unpicked crops, abandoned construction projects etc.

It seems that the ICE movement has been given targets of, I believe, 3000 people a day to be picked up. Unfortunately, they ran out of " criminals" to detain quite quickly, so are reduced to scooping up anyone working in certain industries, such as agriculture or hospitality, or construction; unless they are too pale, of course.

I would love to see his parade rained on bigly (to use one of his words).

There are entire crops of tomatoes in Florida being plowed over because there is no one to pick them.

Migrants pay in over $1B in taxes each year. If they are illegal, they get no benefits. No social security, no welfare, nothing. (I'll go find this data because I am sure someone will be a long soon to tell me how bad immigrants are and that it couldn't be true they pay in so much)

He has been rounding up LEGAL migrants. He is revoking their status based on country of origin. I wonder what the Xenophobes think about that? Because I always hear "you should do it the right way". And they did. And are being deported anyhow.

Listening to some commentary this morning by a couple of political bods.

The opinion was that

Immigrants provide millions of working hours on jobs that Americans don’t want to do - particularly in agriculture, labouring, hospitality etc.

These immigrants have in many cases been in the USA for years and have settled, paying tax and bringing up their families.

If they are expelled the USA will be short of millions of hours of work and billions in tax.

So much so, that crops will not be picked, building not built etc.

That is when Trump will be hit.

So the opinion is that the protests should stop, and to allow the situation to develop as above, which will they reckon happen pretty quickly.

They also reckoned that if Trump arrested the Californian Governor he (the Governor) will be the next president!

I’m not sure, although if I look at Brexit, I suppose if we had not allowed hundreds of thousands of immigrants in from Africa and Asia, the U.K. would be in the same position.

But you have to convince the xenophobes and that is difficult because they are so entrenched in their little world.
