Just watching what happened in down-town Los Angeles yesterday as ICE, ATF and others conducted raids against immigrants and others.

The Los Angeles citizens protested through the night against the military-style raises. In a statement from Kathryn Barger, a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, she says:

I am aware of today's DHS ICE enforcement actions that took place in Los Angeles. At this time, my office is actively monitoring the situation. While I fully support the enforcement of our nation’s laws, I also believe it is essential that actions taken by federal agencies are conducted with transparency, fairness, and respect for the rights and dignity of all individuals. My priority remains the safety and well-being of all residents of Los Angeles County.

Wisconsin is allegedly the most Gerrymandered state.

"Gerrymandering remains a contentious issue in American politics, but which states twist and turn their voting maps the most?

Newsweek has mapped the most gerrymandered states, based on data from the World Population Review.

Much of the worst gerrymandering was concentrated in parts of the Southern and Northeastern United States. The 11 worst offenders were North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas, Utah, Texas, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

According to the report, Wisconsin is considered the most gerrymandered state in America, although the practice is present in all states.

In 2022, voters in Wisconsin elected a Democratic governor, attorney general, and secretary of state. These appointments were unaffected by gerrymandering as they used the statewide vote. However, Republicans maintained a 64-35 and 21-11 majority in the state Assembly and Senate respectively, enabled by Republican-drawn maps that favored its party's candidates in districts across the state."

This has a perfect example of Gerrymandering

This is how things started in Texas. Every 10 years we have a census. Our population controls number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives. There are only 435 seats, it is the make up that changes.

Due to population moving during the 10 year period will cause House seats to be shifted around. The last Census in 2020 added 5 seats to Texas and California lost seats.

What Texas is trying to do is set the boundaries for each Reps district in such a way that they dilute the Democrat vote on the larger cities = Gerrymandering.

Because Republicans have the majority in Texas, if this goes to vote, it will pass. The only way Democrats had available to stop the vote is to deny the Rs a quorum by leaving the state.

Now the Governor of Texas is mad and threatening to issue warrants for arrest.

The Texas Dems left the state to avoid a quarum for the Gerrymandered vote and now there are (going to be?) warrants for their arrests. The Illinois Governor is providing refuge for some of them. He has stayed that he won't turn them over to Texas.

In case anyone is wondering what it is like to have a fascist regime in charge. At this point, anyone who still supports this man on any level, anywhere in the world, openly and knowingly supports fascism. They will be judged.

Have you a link that would help us to understand what is going on in Texas?

Gerrymandering isn’t quite so blatant in the UK as it seems to be in the US (though one or two recent practices have seemed to come near it)

Im still here. Kind of ignoring him since nothing we can do ton change things. Looks like the SC is going to allow Texas to Gerrymander things, which will flip 5 house seats from D to R. Republicans are going to hold the house forever now. which means no one will impeach him.

The D will have to try harder! What on earth are they doing?

They will only do very mediocre in the mid-terms unless they get their act together.

What can they do? He has just fired the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), because they didn't give him the statistics he wanted. Basically she was fired for reporting the Truth. This will not steady the markets.

I have to admit that turning "droit" into "Droitwich" made me smile.

I’m not sure there will be lush back Whitewave. So many of his supporters don’t care about sexual abuse or exploitation of the vulnerable

Whitewavemark2 Thu 31-Jul-25 05:35:06

Won’t there be a massive push back if he pardons her?

imaround Thu 31-Jul-25 02:51:41

They were federal charges because they transported minors across state lines for the purpose of sex trafficking.

I believe she had federal charges. If that is the case, he can pardon her. If they were state charges, he could t do anything. Last I saw, she was asking for immunity to testify before Congress.

I am going to go look up her charges.

I read somewhere that a pardon is not within Trumps gift snd in any case would be very strongly contested 🤞🤞. Not sure if that is correct though.

He seems to think he can pardon Maxwell. Whether he is legally right is another matter.

I no longer have any optimism that Trump is capable of empathy. The only thing he cares about is how others perceive him. If he thinks starving children look bad on him, he will do something. If not, he will let them all starve in order to build his new hotel in Gaza.

Something interesting that could mean nothing but did get my attention is that there are reports that Trump wanted to pull back on some decision he made (cant remember now, it could have been Gaza or Ukraine) and the Republicans in Congress disagreed.

They don't push back often, so when they do it stand outs. I feel like it could be getting to the point where he has outlived his usefulness for The Heritage Foundation and they may start working around him. Especially since he is the figurehead of some very unpopular policies recently. And now adding in the starvation in Gaza. Me feeling it doesn't make it true though. Just an observation that I will keep watching for.

I am ready to get off this train.

I'm here! And, it does appear to be so. MTG called it a genocide, finally.

I am not sure it matters. Nothing will change.

I was listening to a reporter who reckons that Trump hates seeing the starving children on television, and if it continues it may well pressure him into forcing Netanyahu to stop starving them.

Trump has admitted that there is starvation, it only takes a few more steps🤞🤞🤞

It is a shame that iamaround seems no longer to be posting, because I wanted to ask her if it is true that America is beginning to wake up regarding the starvation etc in Gaza . That is what I am hearing, and that voters are contacting their representatives.

Apparently the stark images of the babies and toddlers are on television every day now, and which is something Trump will definitely not like.

Casdon Wed 30-Jul-25 13:28:19

It will be quite wrong if Ghislaine Maxwell is pardoned, the evidence against her was so strong, and it would effectively be condoning child sex trafficking - would Trump stoop that low to attempt to save his own skin?

I saw this earlier though, he doesn’t engage his brain before he opens his mouth - it’s hard to believe he would accuse Epstein of poaching young girls who worked for him, but he has.

I have heard speculation regarding a possible pardon, in exchange for a zipped mouth, from a contact in South Carolina.
