Just watching what happened in down-town Los Angeles yesterday as ICE, ATF and others conducted raids against immigrants and others.

The Los Angeles citizens protested through the night against the military-style raises. In a statement from Kathryn Barger, a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, she says:

I am aware of today's DHS ICE enforcement actions that took place in Los Angeles. At this time, my office is actively monitoring the situation. While I fully support the enforcement of our nation’s laws, I also believe it is essential that actions taken by federal agencies are conducted with transparency, fairness, and respect for the rights and dignity of all individuals. My priority remains the safety and well-being of all residents of Los Angeles County.

An absolute monarchy certainly, I visited a few years ago, a very different impression after SA. Cross the border from the threatening squalor and shanties of South Africa to a rather nice friendly country, poor, yes but welcoming.
South Africa should put its own house in order before it criticizes others, it’s the most corrupt, threatening country I’ve visited.

As for Eswantini taking Trumps cast outs, I’m sure they are being paid well, it’s their choice.

Meanwhile there is major concern in African countries about deportation, this is the headline on CNN today, and it makes scary reading.

A wee glimmer of hope.

MAGA is still mad about the Epstein files and he keeps doubling down gaslighting his supporters.

I was expecting them to all fall into line, like they have for the last 10 years, but they seem to be escalating.

They are talking about midterm elections, which means we should start seeing him find ways to stop midterm elections. If they don't, it is going to be a blood bath for Republicans.

I am busy with a large event next week for the organization I volunteer at. I am up to my ears in stuff to do.

I will always make time to see his base turn on him though. I thought he would get them back under his thumb by now, but I am seeing a lot of comments questioning everything now, including his lies about the 2020 election. He added fuel to the fire today. smile

Any time I hear of people supporting him after everything he has done, I always ask what is in it for them. Power? Money? Permission to act like the worst version of themselves in public?

There is always a reason why someone says they don't care about, and refuse to see, the human rights violations, breaking of laws, upending the constitution and funneling taxpayer money to billionaires. Why would anyone want that in their country? hmm

Thanks, Imaround (I was a bit worried that we hadn't heard from you for while)

This is the man who our ambassador to the US says has a 'kernel of truth' in what he says. 😱

imaround Wed 16-Jul-25 16:33:20

MAGA is mad and turning on him. This is his response.

I've said since January, we can't do anything to stop him without them, we just had to wait for that thing that made them mad. I didn't expect Epstein files to be the one thing, but it makes sense. These are Q-anon followers, they lifted him up based on the belief that the Deep State was trafficking children. He took that belief and ran, but is now saying that it was all a hoax.

Let's hope today's post makes them even more mad. smile

Maremia Mon 14-Jul-25 18:37:28

Yes, imaround, whatever it takes.

imaround Mon 14-Jul-25 17:24:52

The good news is MAGA is turning on him right now. The bad news is it is because he won't release the Epstein files, not because he is a bad person who is kidnapping citizens off the street.

Whatever it takes, I suppose. But it doesn't address the root cause of the issues, racism, bigotry and xenophobia, that caused him to get elected in the first place.

Aely Mon 14-Jul-25 14:57:38

You were right, Imaround. He has gutted everything except his bank balance.

Remember back when California was on fire and everyone said Trump needs to hurry and get in office so these people could get help? And I insisted that wasn't the case, that instead he had been saying he was going to gut FEMA and it would devastate disaster relief efforts and people would die?

hmm

Palestine. action has been proscribed as a terrorist organisation.
They shouldn’t have been able to get in to cause such damage to jet engines. I don’t believe Ycvette Cooper or Starmer took the decision without legal advice and much consideration

Isn’t red the peace colour for aircraft? I see red helicopters very regularly on the Beacons, rescuing people.

No, it's Code Red - Emergency.

Ah, that makes sense - I did wonder why so many were red.

Allira Thu 10-Jul-25 21:16:55

Agreed.

David49 Thu 10-Jul-25 21:15:04

Spray painting is on thing but throwing paint into a jet engine is serious,, it means the whole engine has to be taken out and overhauled. That costs mega bucks, plain stupidit6 they deserve everything they get.

This group aren’t about peace.

Oreo Thu 10-Jul-25 20:49:39

They didn’t just paint them, they poured paint into the engines.
They have done a raft of other things up to now.Groups don’t get labelled as terrorists over nothing.
The government have acted swiftly before they gear up to do even worse. If they do anything more, hope they like prison food.

OMG ! They painted two aeroplanes red at Brize Norton! What a catastrophe ! So much worse than starving people to death or shooting them to death when they go to get some food.

Have you no sense of proportion

It's not the fact that they painted the aeroplanes - it's the fact that they wanted to do this and were able to do so.
And they are so dense they never even thought they could be the planes that might have taken aid to Gaza to save lives.

Good old California! It may be the last bastion of democracy in the US.

Meantime, here in Good Old Britain, we can get arrested for supporting Palestinians in a public place.

Totally untrue.
How can posters take your comments seriously when you come out with such things.
Supporting the group Action Palestine in a public place is the only way you could be arrested. Now deemed a terrorist group as they have behaved so badly in the past and recently put two planes out of action at Brize Norton.
A peaceful protesting group they ain’t.

Caleo Thu 10-Jul-25 18:11:04

Religion used to create a feeling of fellowship and cooperation. Or so we are told.

For most of us that bird has flown .
Here in Derby the local mosque hosted a visit from some neighbours who , like myself ,were not Muslim, nor any other faith. The Muslims we met at the mosque were welcoming, non-judgmental, and informative , and they put on a great display of photos of wild life and growing things as examples of Allah's bounty . The bounty of nature is an idea people everywhere can share regardless of religious heritage or ethnicity.

If it’s preached in churches it’s not going to reach many in the UK is it, in reality we all know the message, we will eat less meat, recycle some bottles and feel good about it but that’s it.
We don’t Travel overseas less, we spend our cash on bigger cars and bigger houses, and ask someone else to make sacrifices.
