But it's good for one's own personal psychology (or what some would call your soul) to do what you can to be frugal within reason. No need for a hair shirt, just eat less a little meat and a little less dairy.

That’s exactly why there is no solution to climate change, we want to hang onto our lifestyle and the developing world want to improve theirs.
To make a difference we have to give up travel and consume less we have become very decadent, we don’t need all the modern lifestyle, we managed 60 yrs ago without it, we could now.
But we won’t!.

Of course many will hate what is happening, but as in Germany pre WW2 people are afraid for their community, their family and themselves.

Project 2025 took this into account and Trump et al are following the plan step by step. What people don't seem to see is that in ‘Resolute 1850’ Reform UK Ltd’s have a MAGA plan to turn Britain into Little America!

He has told Brazil that if they don't stop the "witch hunt" trial of the man who tried a coup against the Government, he would issue tariffs at 50%

Unfortunately, the death toll has increased as they are recovering more people today. 95 people have been killed, including 27 girls and camp counselors from Camp Mystic.

I am not sure exactly what point you are trying to make.

It doesn't matter if a person believes in climate change science, the fact is these are not unprecedented. Texas officials knew the warning system was a problem. A bill was presented to the legislature to fund grants for counties to improve their warning systems and it was voted down in the legislature. Now those same people who voted for it regret that vote.

Why would God want 82 people to die, including innocent children. Dismissing this to a simple act of God overlooks the steps that need be taken to stop this from happening again.

Extreme drought due to rising temperatures levels due to climate change and the fact that the taxpayers there refuse to raise taxes to pay for an adequate warning system are all man made issues.

Those camps where thousands of children and families were camping likely did not have cell service, nor do they have broad wifi. These people were sitting ducks. It was 4th of July weekend, so camps were at max capacity.

Geologically, the Texas Hill Country has a layer of limestone under the soil. Large amount of water are unable to be absorbed in the ground because of that layer. Because of this, flash floods are common in this area to begin with, though not to this degree. Common flash floods lead to warning fatigue, causing people to not take these warning as seriously when they do get them.

Let's also take into account that Trump's policies meant that several key positions at the National Weather Service offices in that area were vacant, meaning less eyes on what was happening.

I saw this morning that 82 people have died and 10 girls are still missing from Camp Mystic. It is a horrible tragedy, and I hope that these families find some type of peace as they begin to heal. Their lives will never again be the same.

I also hope that the county and state governments, and voters, take the need for a warning system seriously and take steps to make it happen no matter the cost so that something like this never happens again.

Calling them 'acts of god' wilfully ignores the fact that they are strongly correlated to climate change, which is an entirely human manufactured phenomenon.

Similar to the Barcelona flood you can only call them “acts of god”, an earthquake would be the same type of disaster. All the authorities can do is put whatever resources they have into the rescue and recovery.
Often roads and bridges are damaged so access is very difficult and communications may well be very limited, Barcelona had a warning system, but it relied on mobile phone system but power cuts delayed the warnings. In the case of a hurricane you may, have several days to prepare, you won’t in a flash flood situation.

Horrible news from Texas. Hoping that some more survivors will be found although it doesn't seem likely. Those poor children!

Thoughts are with all who lost their lives and all who have lost loved ones.

This has a time lapse video of the waters rising. This area is 95 miles north of Camp Mystic, where 23 girls went missing. Almost 700 campers from that camp alone were rescued and evacuated. It happened so fast, even if there had been better warning in these areas, I am not sure the people would have gotten out in time.

Horrible flooding in Texas Hill Country, over near Austin and San Antonio. 80 people have died, including 28 children who were washed away from their summer camps. 10 campers are still missing.

They had flash flood warnings, but no one expected this. It rained 15 inches in an hour and the river rose from 1 foot deep to 23 feet deep in 30 minutes at 4:30 am. That whole area near the river is full of summer camps for kids.
The areas are expecting more rain and reports of additional flooding and evacuation of rescue volunteers in the area. They had no cell phones or wifi, just woke up with the cabins flooded. An RV park in the area has had entire families in their campers sleeping washed away. I cant imagine being the parents of those children waking up to news that the camps had been flooding and there were 23 campers missing. Especially since Texas is so huge land wise and families would drive 4 to 5 hours to take these kids to camp.

A horrible tragedy.
