The Snp arent struggling as a minority Government and their budget was passed no bother with support from two of the opposition parties when they are only one seat short of majority !

1 seat short of a majority? How are you working that out?

It's not about a budget, it's about votes. Their result in the by-election talks volumes.

I don't think it's a coincidence that rUK have sprung it in Scotland. SNP has spent months bragging that Scots would get a WFP and England wouldn't. After the by-election defeat it's another jab at the SNP who are struggling to govern as a minority and ever diminishing credibility.

I don't see why Scotgov should have been consulted about England/Wales WFP changes. Unfortunately the SNP's WFP isn't now looking anything like as fair as rUK.

Much has been made , of whether any Labour changes to CWP in England, could be organised fast enough to be implemented in winter 2025/26. The same time pressure applies to the Scottish govt.

A U-turn of this proportion doesn't happen overnight. It's obvious Reeves has spent weeks juggling the books (how to pay for it) before the big announcement.

It changes the Barnet payment. Scottish govt now has to adjust to a new budget, with has even less time than Reeves had, to make any changes to CWP before winter.

Unfortunately the SNP's WFP isn't now looking anything like as fair as rUK.

Is it mere coincidence Reeves sprung this on Scotland late, and less than a year away from Scottish Parliament elections.

There are Barnet formula implications

Me neither!

Arrangements for WFP are devolved in Scotand and Northern Ireland.

^Pension Age Winter Heating Payment (PAWHP) has replaced the UK Government’s Winter Fuel Payment (WFP) in Scotland in winter 2024-25. The payment was administered by DWP in winter 2024-25 and will be administered by Social Security Scotland from 2025-26 onwards.^

Exactly, so why is Scotgov complaining it's been 'left in the dark'. Of course they may now change their commitment, as it stands everyone gets something, even the richest, but it doesn't compare well with rUK.
