Well, what is your take?

(Is a “u turn” OK as it does give whats needed - or to be criticised for flipping?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6M25Klnodo

8 minutes you need to watch it all

I find Badenoch trying to catch him out, but doesn’t manage…what she doesn’t say, is how Labour was left with the crisis in prisons, in the NHS, in schools, in housing…

Gets interesting at 6.20 onwards as moves to foreign affairs..

That made me laugh out loud ronib, as what you suggest is the exact opposite of the approach taken by Starmer’s critics, including yourself - oh, the irony!

Didn’t Boris have some popularity at the 11 months mark?

Casdon Thu 12-Jun-25 20:09:59

Some were fooled by his surface charm, even though he carried huge baggage from past misdemeanours.

Oreo Thu 12-Jun-25 20:43:53

I really can’t see that Badenoch will be LOTO in three years time, probably less.

Didn’t Boris have some popularity at the 11 months mark?

Only from people who disregarded his behaviour and history

So do I - well said Cossy
Starmer is genuine, has integrity, a good track record in his legal and now political work
He’s also the best prime minister we’ve had in over fourteen years

I agree. We in this country can sleep peacefully at night knowing we have a stable leader - unlike many people in America.

When I saw the name of this thread I just knew what the majority would be saying!

Have you forgotten that just 4 days after taking office they stopped the WFA, something they must have planned all along but didn't mention in their manifesto?

Starmer has done so many u-turns he must be dizzy - he has no political convictions, he is just interested in keeping his post as PM which is why he surrounds himself with incompetents such as Rayner, Lammy and Reeves.

Why is it wrong for Badenoch to have a second home but not for Rayner to claim expenses for living in one but in fact be living in another? Why was it OK for her to buy under the "Right to Buy" but she doesn't want anyone else to have that opportunity?

Why is it none of the Labour MPs I have contacted can tell me why they are happy to cut benefits for disabled people but do nothing about the £361 per day being paid to those who turn up at the House of Lords for a subsidised lunch, subsidised bar and a nap?

Why did none of them answer my question why they think someone with an income of £90,000 (an MPs salary) needs help with their energy costs but someone with an income of £12,000 doesn't!

Nanna8 I love how you know so much about us from down under ! Your thoughts are to be admired given you have not lived here for a very long time! Starmer might be dull but he is intelligent as is proven at every PMQT
Wish I could say the same about your politicians and Badenoch! You seem to have a downer on the country that provided you with the opportunity to emigrate all those years ago! You know free education etc

Only your own constituency MP is obliged to reply to any letter/emails sent to them.

Badenoch can't hold a candle to Sir Kier Starmer.

Mojack26 Fri 13-Jun-25 14:21:38

Cannot stand either!

I wrote to the others because my own (Labour) MP didn't answer. She hasn't replied to any emails I have sent - seems she was only interested in my views when seeking my vote!

Stiff Fri 13-Jun-25 14:44:02

Me neither re Starmer. Can't stand the man or Labour tbh.

Stiff Fri 13-Jun-25 14:50:44

Marg75. Fully agree with you.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 13-Jun-25 14:52:31

Oldwoman, I am sorry to hear of your lack of response to your emails.
I have received prompt replies to all communications with my current ( Labour) MP, and from my previous one (Conservative).
I understand that MP's are not obliged to deal with anyone except their constituents, although I have had acknowledgements from the MP of the next area when I have communicated with him.
Do you receive acknowledgements, or nothing?

Labradora Fri 13-Jun-25 14:58:33

Not saying anything re her politics generally I like Badenoch. I find her highly intelligent , articulate , professional and normally unflappable, judging her as a female professional and leader operating in a predominantly male arena.
I see confidence rather than arrogance.
Mind you Emma Barnett gave her a good contest on Radio 4's morning show last week and didn't let her get away with much.
You Go Girls !
👏😊😉

Love it when people put forward reasoned arguments. Says so much about their thought process!

yanda Fri 13-Jun-25 15:42:33

If Starmer is so intelligent why does he never answer any of the questions put to him...he's infuriating

Silverbrooks Fri 13-Jun-25 15:45:53

The rules about MPs claiming expenses for a home in their constituency are clear. Neither MP has broken any rules however excessive any claim might seem.

Rayner was perfectly entitled to buy her council house in 2007.

Neverthessless, she is entitled to be concerned now, when the housing crisis is so acute, that restrictions need to be put in place to stop more rented housing stock being lost.

Right to Buy was ended in Scotland in 2016, and in Wales in 2019. England is now out of step with other parts on the UK.

Over 40% of council homes sold under RtB are now owned by private landlords and are being let on the private rental market at three to four times social rent. RtB is being used systematically by wealthy individuals to profit. Often these individuals are part of criminal gangs using RtB to launder money.

It is very clear that many MPs of all parties are unhappy with proposed changes to welfare payments.

It’s illogical to argue that one thing is wrong in your opinion by pointing to something else that is wrong in your opinion.

The upper chamber has an important part to play in the legislative business of Parliament. It is only fair that members who are not paid a salary be paid some allowance to help cover expenses like travel, accommodation and meals just like any form of voluntary work may be compensated. That some peers may abuse the system is a matter for debate but there are also some very hard working peers who do a great deal of important work in the HoL.

An MP can only reply to questions from people living in their own constituency. They are more likely to respond to questions where they they can give a specific and finite answer or where they may be able to ask a question in the HoC under the various means on offer to them e.g tabled debate, written questions and Early Day Motions.

Because he’s intelligent, I would think. Politicians who are less so fall into PMQ and interview traps daily, there are some real bloopers out there.

Betony Fri 13-Jun-25 15:46:41

Starmer has certainly improved, and boy, there was a lot to improve, imo. The thing that's really worrying me is the power his old boss Lord Hermer (so recently elevated to the Lords) seems to have over him. I wonder how much Starmer is being played.

MayBee70 Fri 13-Jun-25 15:57:59

Starmer is far more ruthless than people realise. I can’t see anyone ‘playing him’. However, as someone fairly new to parliament I’d like to think that he’s ok with taking advice from people.
