It must be truly heartbreaking for the parents who sent their daughters to bible camp in Texas.
More bodies have been found and hope fades for the others.

It really is heartbreaking and agony for them waiting to hear their daughters have been found.
Also for others whose lives have been destroyed by these awful and very unexpected floods.
Nature is not to be taken for granted .

A terrible tragedy. All those young lives lost. I can't imagine how terrified they must have been.

This has been mentioned on couple of other threads but does deserve a thread of its own.

The situation sounds horrendous and the water rose so rapidly that people stood no chance.

Thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, the rescuers and all those who lost their lives.

It’s utterly heartbreaking. I wept this morning watching the footage of that poor dad walking along the river bank with an oar in his hands poking in the debris looking for his little girl.

A correctly titled thread- heartbreaking indeed.

absolutely horrific, children off enjoying themselves when this happens, truely heartbreaking...those poor families

Hithere Mon 07-Jul-25 15:55:39

A truly preventable event- that's the real tragedy

MayBee70 Mon 07-Jul-25 16:05:02

One of Trumps cut backs has been with weather forecasting I believe sad.

Hithere Mon 07-Jul-25 16:06:56

And camp was set up in a high risk flood area

MayBee70 Mon 07-Jul-25 16:10:52

Not wishing to detract from the loss of human life ( which is truly heartbreaking) but a Facebook page I’m on used to supply the camp with ponies for the children to ride and they have been lost, too. They may have been rescue ponies from kill pens, too, but I’m not 100% sure about that.

Maremia Mon 07-Jul-25 16:16:45

Just too sad, and happening in the middle of the night, they had very little chance.
Yes, sorry for the wee ponies too.
Later, there will be lots of questions, around the issues raised upthread.

Here is part of my post from the Trump thread. It explains some of the why this happened. This was a horrible tragedy. I cant imagine how these parents feel right now.

- -------------------
Extreme drought due to rising temperatures levels due to climate change and the fact that the taxpayers there refuse to raise taxes to pay for an adequate warning system are all man made issues.

Those camps where thousands of children and families were camping likely did not have cell service, nor do they have broad wifi. These people were sitting ducks. It was 4th of July weekend, so camps were at max capacity.

Geologically, the Texas Hill Country has a layer of limestone under the soil. Large amount of water are unable to be absorbed in the ground because of that layer. Because of this, flash floods are common in this area to begin with, though not to this degree. Common flash floods lead to warning fatigue, causing people to not take these warning as seriously when they do get them.

Let's also take into account that Trump's policies meant that several key positions at the National Weather Service offices in that area were vacant, meaning less eyes on what was happening.

I saw this morning that 82 people have died and 10 girls are still missing from Camp Mystic. It is a horrible tragedy, and I hope that these families find some type of peace as they begin to heal. Their lives will never again be the same.

I also hope that the county and state governments, and voters, take the need for a warning system seriously and take steps to make it happen no matter the cost so that something like this never happens again.

I think that there
were over 400 posts on Trump .
My phone is malfunctioning so I didn't read them !
It took me about six attempts to post my little offering.
I did watch programmes about the geology and Trump's policies as regards weather forecasts and warnings
.

Truly awful. I think that their list resonated more with me because our Year 6 DGD went on her first school trip away recently. We said goodbye darling and she came back safe and well. They haven't.

Nannapat1 Tue 08-Jul-25 14:20:25

Sorry, 'list' should read 'loss' - spellcheck!

Frenchgalinspain Tue 08-Jul-25 14:34:54

The whole country is a true disaster zone in one way or another.

I had read that 2 young Mexican women had saved approx. 20 lives from drowning and it was in The Guardian and on Facebook early this morning.

"True Heroines" !

Dianehillbilly1957 Tue 08-Jul-25 19:44:47

Absolutely tragic, the loss of everyone involved, and especially children so innocent and having a happy time. It's hard to come to terms what has happened. Heartbroken for everyone 💔💔💔

Kimski44 Tue 08-Jul-25 21:19:42

It was terrible and despite hindsight, was unexpected. It reminds me a little of the Aberfan disaster, which happened on my birthday and I always give a moment to think about those little children, who would’ve been my age if they’d survived. So very sad.
