I do not see how Dianne Abbott can lump the Irish, Jews and Travellers together as experiencing, or not, racism.
The Irish and the Jews are each a race and have a common religion.
Travellers is a generic used term to describe a travelling community; they share no common racial or religious heritage, apart from the Romany.
Therefore Irish and Jews may both be racially abused (charming).
Travellers may not.
As for red hair.....

Dianne Abbot - did she want to be suspended, again .
(112 Posts)DA has given an interview in which she doubles down on her previous comments that only black people are subjected to racism. Travellers, Jewish people are in her view treated like red heads
She’s been suspended again. No diubt that’s what she wanted.
I think she was bullied, too. It is a sad state of affairs when someone with valuable and interesting posts feels they have to leave because of the comments of a few .

I think Abbott is deliberately provocative to undermine Starmer.
I think the same, she withdrew the very same just over a year
ago, why speak of it now

Anniebach I've not blamed Netanyahu for everything so I don't understand your reply to me. I merely think that distaste for his current actions gives anti-Semites an easy excuse, a shield if you like, to be antisemitic whilst claiming not to be. They'll blame all Jews for the actions of one. We saw a Jewish woman choose to leave this site by some closet antisemitism disguised as concern for Gaza. Some of the posts directed at her were beyond contempt.

…and nobody is going to admit to it either.
I agree.
Her point of view was interesting and more valid because she was actually experiencing what it is and was like from the point of view of an ordinary woman living in Israel, not a member of the Israeli Government.
However, she was made to feel so uncomfortable that she left.

I never knew anybody with brown/black skin when I was at school, so I don't even know what I thought. My sister has ginger hair and I know she was occasionally called names, which upset her. Nevertheless, the name calling stopped and she didn't ever suffer the kind of discrimination which I now know people with brown/black skin experience.
Yes, I most certainly do read other people's posts. Unfortunately, I don't think some people digest mine.
No, I don't agree that the poster in question was bullied. I think she was one-sided and was challenged.Rubbish.
She withdrew due to all the venom directed her way.
Maybe she's used to people just accepting what she claims.

Well then Growstuff, your sister was one of the lucky ones!
And my daughter? She also has ginger hair and has always loved it.

Sorry, I quoted the wrong post in my last reply. I meant to respond to Rosie51.

8growstuff* My point is that anti-semitism exists in the UK despite what's going on in Gaza. I'm afraid anybody who doesn't believe that is blinkered.
Do you even read and digest other's posts? That was precisely my point, that anti-Semitism exists, is never far from the surface, but things like the Gaza situation give 'cover' for the closet ones to emerge, whilst proclaiming their virtue.
She was challenged and had no response. You truly saw it as that? The venom directed at her had more than a touch of anti-Semitism attached, but those that want to remain blind to it will never see.
Agree Rosie denial comes into play but doesn’t change what
took place,

I never understood at school (70s) why it was so wrong when people called other people for the colour of their skin, but it was ok to say anything derogatory about red headed/ginger people, that was always ok. I thought it out of order on both counts.
I wore my hair in a bun, teacher would shout‘Rusty Bun’ across the class- can you even imagine saying that to a black, or brown person.

FWIW I'm passionately anti-Netanyahu and the actions of some of the Israeli government and some Israelis. However, I'm not "anti" all Israelis and certainly not against all Jews (many of whom have nothing to do with Israel). I object very strongly to being labelled anti-semitic because I find what Israel is currently doing objectionable. It's a lazy argument by people who seem not to know the difference between between being Jewish, being Israeli and supporting the current Israeli government.
I'm well aware of historical anti-semitism and I know that support for Palestine has clouded the issue. As it happens, if I were an adviser to Palestinians (which I'm never likely to be), I'd tell them to take the moral high ground. I was as horrified as anybody by their 7/10 attack. Not only was it appalling, but they lost a moral argument, which was IMO stupid.

growstuff Are you denying that the present situation with Israel hasn't enabled a great number of closet anti-Semites? Not every anti-Semite is a card carrying Nazi. Your link to Fiona Ryan is the same one to Harry Vaughan, but the correct link www.cps.gov.uk/wessex/news/tiktoker-sentenced-grossly-offensive-antisemitic-posts shows Ryan compares Jews to Nazis so it would seem she isn't one?
Oh! Ryan is a neo-Nazi (not a very bright one), but my point is that she's not pro-Palestinian. In fact, most neo-Nazis are also anti-Islamists. There's a lot more to anti-semitism than being pro-Palestinian. people really should do some homework.

Rosie you spoke of the actions of one man, it so like the
Gaza threads, one man brought about the Israeli/ Palestinian war, same man enabled Hamas to invade Israel, it is not possible for one person to carry out such atrocities, no different to Hitler caused WW2 and the Holocaust, one person
cannot bring such horrors to the world.
I agree with over Philippa and the treatment of her on that thread, same happened to her last year
