So what do GNs think of Starmer’s decision to recognise Palestine as a state?

Exactly that.
Although it’s still only, the UK may recognise Palestine as a state unless certain conditions are fulfilled
What will that mean for the UK and for those supporters of either group living here?

Since 7th October 2023 I have lost much trust, UN, most charities, the BBC , gone are the times when I switched on
for their 6pm news.

Well okay then who would like to see the UN for example raise the question with Hamas directly? Or perhaps it has? The question being the continued threat by Hamas to Israel of course- in terms of its practices and ideology.
Or perhaps our Foreign Office Minister is negotiating on this point?

To properly answer your question, yes I would like the UN to raise it with hamas, but they won’t and in any case are a toothless body. All they have done virtually since October 7th two years ago is to be hostile to Israel. I watched the Israeli envoy to the UN make the most heart wrenching speech there soon afterwards and saw the blank stares of many people there representing various countries, he was received in more or less stony silence. So much for the UN.
As for Lammy? I think he seems totally one sided from what I’ve heard from him so far, that’s why I initially said ‘doubtful’.

Nice deflection ladies ….

Allira Mon 11-Aug-25 15:07:26

I bet they keep a close eye on some threads!

Possibly not the knitting ones though.

AGAA4 Mon 11-Aug-25 15:02:11

Allira I doubt the moderators read every post. I have never reported anyone as I let posts stand for others to read but I have read some posts that have sailed very close to the wind.

I agree.
And I believe Oreo would be the first to get annoyed if instead it was said that a lot of posters on here aren’t bothered about the ongoing massacre of Gazans.

I'm afraid that any sympathy for what's happening to the Palestinians seems to be regarded as anti semitism and results in being banned from the forum...

I hadn't noticed anyone has disappeared. All seem present and correct, apart from one or two who said they were leaving.

GNHQ are the moderators and the ones to decide whether or not a post is anti-semitic or against other guidelines, surely?

AGAA4 Mon 11-Aug-25 14:49:19

Well said Babs03 I realise now that some will never believe the tragedy that is happening in Gaza or that Netanyahu and his government have gone too far in their vengeance on the Gazan people.
Netanyahu wants this war to go on and to rid Gaza of all Palestinians as has been said by some in the Knesset.

Babs03 Mon 11-Aug-25 14:41:10

Nobody may have been banned, but then I haven’t been around enough to know, but I certainly feel that if anyone suggests that what is happening to Palestinians is genocide there is absolutely no recognition from some that Netanyahu or the IDF bear any blame in this, or the implication is made that there is no genocide and Palestinians are apparently waltzing around in the rubble fully fed and happy as Larry, with any pics of starving Gazans faked by Hamas.
Indeed any evidence or report or western government misgivings are routinely dismissed, as if everyone except a chosen few who are obviously more in the know than aid agencies/human rights agencies/western governments etc., must be seriously stupid in order to be duped like this.
Perhaps those who obviously are getting the right intel out of Gaza should tell the government and other agencies, might be a bob or two in it.

ronib Mon 11-Aug-25 14:39:00

Okay it’s just going to be more of the same then? Oreo Tragic for all sides. There doesn’t seem to be any organization or body with any ability to resolve the many aspects of this war. Tragic.

It’s more or less been said already many times, and if I was to get annoyed by anything on here would already have left it.
Only real antisemitic posts have been deleted and am not aware that anyone has been banned. That’s up to the moderators in any case.

Sorry Whitewavemark but having just got my silly hat back from all the posters who borrowed it I need to make use of it before it vanishes again.😂

Whitewavemark2 Mon 11-Aug-25 14:14:43

Harsh but true hey? Certainly for a lot of posters.

Ok

Who? Suggesting “lots of posters” suggests a great deal of anti-semitism, and in which case you need to have the courage to say who.

Also it would be quite polite to drop the threat to destroy Israel… no one seems to be bothered by it apart from Israel.

Very few on this forum that’s for sure.

Hamas long gone ? no , they are the Gaza government, they run the hospitals, they announce number of deaths, they choose if and when to hold talks , they will” not release the hostages

I didn’t say Hamas are long gone I said the commanders are long gone.

Jaberwok Mon 11-Aug-25 12:33:39

Surely the release of the hostages must be one of the conditions leading to a lasting peace, and the recognition of a Palestinian state? Or are all the conditions purely on the Israeli side? If so, then peace is further away than ever, as Israel will, rightly, never agree to peace without their return.

Anniebach Mon 11-Aug-25 12:13:05
