There have been 2 famous cases where nurses convicted of murdering patients have been exonerated subsequently. A Dutch nurse, Lucy de Berk, having served 6 years of a life sentence, had her conviction for 7 charges of murder, and 3 charges of attempted murder quashed in 2010. Her conviction was considered to be one of the worst cases of miscarriage of justice in Dutch history. Italian nurse, Daniela Poggiali, was convicted of the murder of several patients in 2003, and after thorough expert statistical analysis was acquitted in 2010. It is true that we are not legal or medical experts, but the post-trial investigations do seem to suggest that she was not given a fair trial.
