“Israel has faced mounting criticism over the 22-month-long war with Hamas, with UN-backed experts warning of widespread famine unfolding in the besieged territory.
On Tuesday members of an international group of former leaders known as "The Elders" for the first time called the war in Gaza an "unfolding genocide" and blamed Israel for causing famine among its population.
Following a visit to the Gaza border, Helen Clark and Mary Robinson, a former prime minister of New Zealand and a former president of Ireland, said in a joint statement: "What we saw and heard underlines our personal conviction that there is not only an unfolding, human-caused famine in Gaza. There is an unfolding genocide."

Netanyahu cares as much about the hostages as he does about the Palestinians.
Israelis are now getting wise to this and I predict widespread protests in Israel this weekend.
Especially seeing as Hamas has sure wat agreed to a ceasefire in order to release the hostages.
Quite frankly Netanyahu strikes me as a sociopath with such little regard for human life on either side of the divide.

I didn't mention Hamas. I have no idea what they are thinking.
It was ronib and you replied to her, sorry if that caused confusion.
Quite honestly, I have no idea what either Hamas or Netanyahu's Government are thinking, it's beyond the comprehension of most of us.

I should have said the Israeli government. Apologies for the confusion.

Hamas isn’t showing much compassion towards the people of Gaza one could say?
Nor is Israel or for the hostages and their families.
Surely you can't speak for the people of Israel as a whole?
Perhaps you might surmise what the Government might be thinking but not all Israelis.
Stating what Hamas might be thinking is not the same as saying that that is what all the people of Gaza are thinking.

Really? I am sure there is much concern in Israel for the hostages

I’m worrying about appalling conditions for the poor hostages.

Was has Hamas not come out from the underground tunnels and capitulated if its serious in wanting peace?
Perhaps they don’t know “they are as good as defeated “

Was has Hamas not come out from the underground tunnels and capitulated if its serious in wanting peace?
Because the IDF will just kill them all. This isn’t a case of Hamas just walking out arms in the air waving a little white flag, if a ceasefire isn’t declared they will be shot dead.
Was has Hamas not come out from the underground tunnels and capitulated if its serious in wanting peace?
Palestinians in Gaza city have taken to the streets and begging for an end to the war. They are refusing to be pushed out to the camps in the south.
Israelis also want this war over.
I doubt Netanyahu is listening.

There has to come a point when Gazans themselves will realise that having Hamas in charge as government will never ever give a just peace.
Israel has no choice but to take every steps to eradicate this imported regime.
Gazans are not in a position to realise anything, they are hardly sat like us in our comfy armchairs having this debate, they are totally powerless, homeless, starving, and with no hope. So I doubt they any longer have an opinion on Hamas or upon any other form of governance.
I wonder if you have seen the satellite pictures of Gaza?
Anyway, Hamas are as good as defeated and willing to call a ceasefire in order to release the hostages but the Israeli government won’t consider it, despite increasing numbers of Israelis crowding onto the streets critisizing Netanyahu and demanding an end to the war so their loved ones will be released.
Do you suppose you know better than those on the streets of Tel Aviv?
They have spoken but even that won’t deter the hard liners spurring Netanyahu on to commit more atrocities.

This demonstrates how determined Netanyahu and his cronies are to forge ahead with no consideration for the release of the hostages or any kind of peaceful resolution of this.

The words “Free Palestine” were spray-painted overnight on multiple vehicles belonging to the group, sparking alarm among both residents and tourists in the Haute-Savoie town.

I dread to think WWM sanitation, food, water, health welfare (and) schooling for the Palestinians hasn't been of any concern to Israel so far.

AFAUI the population of Gaza is still increasing, so 62,000 dead does not equate to genocide.
That’s ok looks like the IDF are hell bent upon upping the death toll to meet your particular standards when it comes to genocide.
It's a war, easily stopped if Hamas handed over the hostages they are starving to death.
The hostages shouldn't have been taken by Hamas but unfortunately we are where we are.
It was reported in The Times of Israel today that 'Relatives of the hostages have urged Netanyahu to accept a ceasefire deal that would free 10 living captives. Families of the hostages have accused Natanyahu's government of prolonging the war, and of passing up opportunities to release the hostages in an agreement for political motives, They have warned that an invasion of Gaza city will endanger the hostages'.

I fear for the hostages as if they are no longer useful to Hamas they will be killed. I believe Netanyahu knows this too.
That's what I fear. Israel has already killed most of the Hamas leaders. The remaining leaders are in Qatar. Israel will never succeed in killing the ideology behind Hamas. Flattening Gaza City will result in more Palestinian deaths - undoubtedly some IDF soldiers will be killed too. The hostages might very well be killed by Israeli tanks and guns or Hamas might kill them before they're killed themselves. What will Israel do then?
I cannot share your knowledge of Hamas so cannot agree or disagree
My question is what happens after the Palestinians are imprisoned.
What about sanitation, food, water, health welfare, schooling?

And so do their families.
Imagine if it was your son. I would be frantic with fear.
