Unfolding Genocide

BBC report

“Israel has faced mounting criticism over the 22-month-long war with Hamas, with UN-backed experts warning of widespread famine unfolding in the besieged territory.

On Tuesday members of an international group of former leaders known as "The Elders" for the first time called the war in Gaza an "unfolding genocide" and blamed Israel for causing famine among its population.

Following a visit to the Gaza border, Helen Clark and Mary Robinson, a former prime minister of New Zealand and a former president of Ireland, said in a joint statement: "What we saw and heard underlines our personal conviction that there is not only an unfolding, human-caused famine in Gaza. There is an unfolding genocide."

Well I agree with some of that, but don’t think the conflict is meant to rid Gaza of all Palestinians, there are far too many of them for that to happen. If hamas now gave up the hostages and disarmed it could all be over. They have no intention of doing that of course.

If Hamas return the hostages and disarm Netanyahu will continue with his plan to seize Gaza, he has promised Trump, and more importantly promised the hardliners in the Knesset. His reason for doing this will
probably be that not all Hamas operatives have been flushed out and Palestinians not killed will be held in camps in the south by the IDF with a route out to other countries over time, until very few are left, and those who leave will have no right to return.

Netanyahu has said he will now conquer all of Gaza. Israel already holds 75% of it.
What's left of the Gazans will be enclosed in a very small area in the south. Trump is hoping to move them elsewhere but no idea how that will happen.

Well, that has always been the plan, hasn’t it sad.

I agree Oreo there are sadly people who are antisemitic in this country but not the majority.
Babs is right most of us were horrified by the attack on Israelis and we're fully behind Israel after it.
Israel has taken the opportunity to rid Gaza of all Palestinians and most fair minded people believe that is wrong. It doesn't mean support for Hamas.

I heard the following yesterday

“Israel is winning the war but losing public support”

This means the public support Hamas ?

It isn’t a case of ‘either/or’ Annie. Nobody I know supports Hamas, and in the beginning most people were cheering Israel on because of the atrocities committed on Oct 7th, western governments were falling over themselves to show support for Netanyahu.
But now support has dropped off because the majority of people cannot support genocide.
A simple ‘either/or’ argument is offensive to those who don’t support Hamas and could backfire inasmuch as others could say those supporting Netanyahu are in favour of genocide.
Nothing is ever that black and white and I think you know this, you are, as usual, being disingenuous.

May I just point something out?
In London, just two days after the hamas massacre in Israel, hundreds of Israel haters were marching in support of Palestinians. On the 15th Oct 2023 it was thousands and in November 2023 it was 300,000.
That isn’t support dropping off this year. Hatred of Israel and antisemitism are rife in this country.

Babs03
Am bumping my thoughts on the Palestinian marches and protests just days and a few weeks after the massacre in London and other places. What do you make of that fact?
Two days after it, can you imagine?!
There are and were then, huge numbers of Israeli haters and haters of Jews on those marches.

Annie why not just cut to the chase and say everyone in Gaza is Hamas, even babies and children, and that every reputable agency and government that says otherwise is also Hamas. Indeed the only person who isn’t Hamas is Trump.
That makes it so much easier to justify genocide.

You certainly don’t ‘do facts’,

I have never said any of which accuse me, please withdraw your allegations,
thank you
There are no allegations but implications Annie. You may never have said any of what I put in my post but there are many on here who feel you believe it because of your hardline stance.

Please do not imply I said them, I have not, you claim to know others feel/believe it perhaps they will join the hunt

You already have joined the hunt Annie by believing that anyone who doesn’t support what Israel is doing supports Hamas.
You said this earlier.

UNICEF were in Gaza when there was a brief moment granted by Israel to allow aid through.
I understand that some people believe that all journalists/ reporters/ United Nations representatives/ politicians are uninformed/gullible and/ or untruthful, but disbelieving and disrespecting a world renowned and respected agency such as UNICEF, which works for all children, irrespective of race and creed, I find saddening.

‘Someone should tell him Hamas are Palestinians’

I think he knows that Annie but differentiates between a terrorist organisation and innocent civilians. As do most people who’s deeply held prejudices don’t dictate their feelings of compassion and humanity.

On Monday, he told MPs the controversial move would still go ahead at a meeting in New York beginning on September 23rd unless the Israel government take “substantive steps” to end the appalling situation in Gaza and commit to a long-term sustainable peace.

He has assured families of the hostages “we are not rewarding Hamas”

I could have used other words, but trying to be polite.
Pointless really.

It really is pointless. It seems that almost everyone is Hamas or a Hamas supporter despite a great deal if evidence to the contrary.

9 of them!
Out of thousands?
Frankly given the frequent Israeli attacks on Gaza up to 2023, I am surprised it wasn’t more, given how many Gazans had died in previous years.

Really!

Some UN aid workers were involved with the attack on Israel 7th October 2023

silverlining48 Wed 03-Sept-25 12:30:55

If the United Nations and others close to what is going on, do not question the veracity of the numbers of deaths in Gaza provided by the political wing of Hamas , why continue to deny the truth of these numbers,

Israel has never questioned the figures. They probably know that there are many more bodies hidden under the rubble of Gaza.

Babs03 Wed 03-Sept-25 11:48:43

For those who can’t be bothered reading it because it isn’t about antisemitism-

“Anti-Muslim hate in the UK surged to record levels last year, an organisation tracking Islamophobia has found.
Almost 6,000 reports to Tell Mama were confirmed by it as anti-Muslim incidents, more than double the number two years ago, with men targeted more than women for the first time since the body was founded in 2012.
In its report the organisation said there had been a "surge in rhetoric that falsely portrays Muslims as terrorists or terrorist sympathisers" following the Israel-Gaza conflict and Southport murders.
A government spokesperson called the findings "extremely concerning" and said it would "seek to stamp out anti-Muslim hatred and racism wherever it occurs".

Anniebach, what do you make of the UNICEF appeal which references high numbers of dead and injured in Gaza?

No journalists allowed in Gaza, no aid allowed in Gaza, yes dead and injured it’s war, numbers ? Given by Hamas
