Unfolding Genocide

BBC report

“Israel has faced mounting criticism over the 22-month-long war with Hamas, with UN-backed experts warning of widespread famine unfolding in the besieged territory.

On Tuesday members of an international group of former leaders known as "The Elders" for the first time called the war in Gaza an "unfolding genocide" and blamed Israel for causing famine among its population.

Following a visit to the Gaza border, Helen Clark and Mary Robinson, a former prime minister of New Zealand and a former president of Ireland, said in a joint statement: "What we saw and heard underlines our personal conviction that there is not only an unfolding, human-caused famine in Gaza. There is an unfolding genocide."

On October 7, Hamas attacked Israel, slaughtering around 1,200 men, women, children, and infants in the largest and most brutal massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. Hamas terrorists intentionally recorded their murder, rape, and torture of civilians, including around 200 foreign nationals, and took at least 240 hostages back with them to Gaza.

The physical attack was followed by a propaganda and disinformation campaign. Knowing that Israel would have no choice but to respond to the October 7 massacre, Hamas retreated into its network of tunnels beneath the homes, schools, and hospitals of Gaza, using Palestinian civilians as human shields in order to weaponize the resulting civilian casualties.

This left Israel with two options – either do nothing in response to the murder and kidnapping of its citizens by invading Hamas terrorists, thereby inviting more attacks, or act against Hamas as it hid behind and under its own citizens. As Hamas leaders themselves admit, Hamas sees either path as a strategic win for its campaign of terror and incitement against Israel, with the ultimate goal of Israel’s eradication. While there can be legitimate criticism of specific Israeli policies and actions during its war with Hamas, it is paramount to remember this worldview of Hamas.

Israel's brutality and inhumanity towards the Gazan people will longer for many years to come yes it will AGAA and rightly so.

Israel wasn’t exactly safe to begin with though was it? Maremia

Alienating allies, which is in some cases resulting in boycotts, note the most recent one of Norway pulling finance from Caterpillar, whose bulldozers are being used to flatten Gaza, will not make the world safer for Israel.

Anniebach Fri 05-Sept-25 15:33:35

We need to remember after the horrors of the Holocaust were shown to the world and with knowledge of Palestinian Hamas wanting to kill all Jews

*Never Again

Hamas is a terrorist organisation and are expected to behave brutally. It's what terrorists do.
Israel was thought of as a law abiding, decent country and expected to behave as such but has shown the world that is not the case.
It's very telling that Israel is compared to Hamas.

Oreo Fri 05-Sept-25 15:18:37

As will hamas and their thousands of eager supporters and their brutality and inhumanity towards Jews.
Israel won’t stand for it anymore.

AGAA4 Fri 05-Sept-25 14:40:16

We're coming to the end of this thread and probably near the end of the war. Israel will have almost done what they set out to do. What's left of the Palestinians will be forced into a camp unfit for habitation. Many will have died.
The hostages are in danger and may not survive the attacks in Gaza city.

Israel's brutality and inhumanity towards the Gazan people will linger for many years to come.

All that seems to dominate news is Gaza. This is an intractable problem and people should devote their energies into other areas where it may be possible to improve something. Examples of this could be pollution, poor education, child poverty and so on.
These are important areas which governments seem to avoid

Anniebach Fri 05-Sept-25 13:24:08

The world has never been there for. Jews, the pogroms Russia, 30’s 40’s Europe , and many countries throughout the ages

ronib Fri 05-Sept-25 13:03:10

Standing in the world unfortunately gives no safeguards.

Maremia Fri 05-Sept-25 11:07:25

Win the battle, (in Gaza) but lose the war (standing in the world).

AGAA4 Fri 05-Sept-25 09:59:32

After seeing a nine month pregnant woman killed a Gazan woman asked "Is this a war against Hamas or a war against the people?" A very good question.
Some in Gaza city are refusing to move saying they will die in their homes and that many who have moved on have been killed by Israel anyway.
What an appalling situation for them.

AGAA4 Thu 04-Sept-25 19:50:31

As Israel are doing now.

ronib Thu 04-Sept-25 19:43:30

An unwelcome intrusion into another’s domain.

AGAA4 Thu 04-Sept-25 19:38:00

Define invasion.

ronib Thu 04-Sept-25 19:16:02

England too

ronib Thu 04-Sept-25 19:14:54

When was the last time that Israel suffered an invasion, I guess was the question being asked. And yes that’s relevant. bmacca

There is no point to whataboutism, a technique of responding to a complex topic by using a shallow comparison to some other instance.

Anniebach Thu 04-Sept-25 17:28:49

The last invasion in UK was 1797, French soldiers landed in Fishguard,Wales, no shooting, women in Fishguard armed with pitchforks and led by Jemima Fawr surrounded some soldiers and locked them in the church, the French surrendered shortly after . Definitely the last invasion of mainland Britain

Anniebach Thu 04-Sept-25 17:16:35

AGAA4 Thu 04-Sept-25 16:15:26
The UK has suffered terrorist attacks over many years where people have been killed. The security services work constantly to fight terrorism. There are terrorist here but our army doesn't try to root them out by killing everyone around them

Not true, yes terrorists but invading where ,Scotland, Wales, Ireland,
England , unless you mean Bloody Sunday, Soldiers shot and killed young men in a peace march, in Ireland one was charged but case dropped . Definitely never an invasion

AnnieB, just google this question and see for yourself,
'Is there evidence that the IDF is killing children in Gaza'

Showing bullet wounds in head and back ? thank God I have never seen them, who could be so sick as to photograph head and back wounds of a child? Hamas ?

AGAA4 Thu 04-Sept-25 16:20:00

Sorry completely wrong place!!! Got mixed up with text to DD.

AGAA4 Thu 04-Sept-25 16:18:54

They will if they think it's suspicious. Always best to get rid. Xxx
