Sudan, the forgotten war

The ongoing war in Sudan seems to go unnoticed, why?

Over 150,000 dead, 12 million have fled.

24 million are facing acute food insecurity as of June 2025, basically they are starving and over 500,000 are suspected to have already died of malnutrition.

Why isn’t this conflict considered as serious or newsworthy as the Israel/Gaza conflict?

Disturbing article in the BBC online this morning, from the killers' points of view. Couldn't finish it.

Possible ceasefire,
BBC tonight.

A continent full of riches and resources.

Possibly a move in a good direction. The UAE is apparently rethinking its support for the Rebels. And it is because of the atrocities.

About time too but if they have gold someone will launder it for them, it’s the same situation as blood diamonds.

No real solution, that’s Africa

I'm not surprised that there is little coverage of this war on television, there is a reason, but I cannot write what I really think on a public forum. Putting this aside, yes, it's really terrible that this tragic situation is ongoing and such terrible things are happening to people.

Just read, and not sure if it has been mentioned upthread, but a UK and USA ally, has been arming the RFS, probably with weapons bought from the UK
Our very profitable arms trade is fanning the flames of war.

The money for arms is coming from Dubai, the rebels have taken over the Gold mines and that is being used to buy weapons, arms dealers supply them from many illegal sources. While that continues the war will continue with gold price high I don’t see it ending soon, no peacekeeping force is going to get involved in Sudan.

Just so evil.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 02-Nov-25 16:35:31

The fact that a maternity hospital was attacked and mothers, babies and staff were massacred is abhorrent.

Maremia Sun 02-Nov-25 16:30:59

And this morning, another good article in The Guardian
Are any of the other papers covering this tragedy?

Maremia Sat 01-Nov-25 14:40:26

Grim, but does suggest who might be able to influence the RSF.

Maremia Sat 01-Nov-25 14:32:29

Thanks bmacca. For anyone who knows these things
which side is likely to win?

This article in the Guardian today may be of interest to those following events in Sudan.

A Sudanese massacre foretold: the grim familiarity of the RSF’s rampage through El Fasher

So that's the price they have to pay, to get help in.

I see that now, bmacca, a free for all.
Dangerous too, for Aid Agencies to go in.

The aid agencies feed the rebels so they are allowed access to the refugees, e erything has its price no free access, same in Gaza.

It's not up to Greta Thunberg. She has done her bit, to plenty of criticism from a selection of posters. It happens that the campaign she chose was about Gaza.
To be honest, I don't know which faction is the 'good' one. Or even if there is such a thing.
It doesn't seem to be the case.
Who would be targeted, in a street protest here?
I really don't know enough but this Thread might be a help.

Sudan is a free for all, where unscrupulous nations exploit the ethnic and social fragility in order to make vast profits. The current focus is on the RSF and their funding from the UAE. But there are many warring factions in this conflict such as the Justice & Equality Movement (JEM) so it’s not just about Arab vs Black Sudanese. Many of these factions are armed and backed by foreign entities with the aim of securing the vast resources of Sudan

Amnesty have been raising the issues in Sudan for a long time. There have been times when the issues received more publicity in our media but then it’s gone from the headlines until the next time.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 31-Oct-25 16:55:12

growstuff I cannot understand that either 🤷‍♀️

(Getting a bit worried about all this agreeing between us 😹)

Some of us are able to support Sudan at the same time as raising the issue of ongoing genocide in Gaza.
If anyone would like to offer their own support, this is one organisation that has been offering help for years.

Thank you for posting that link.

It's strange that some people seem to think that it's not possible to support the people of Sudan and Gaza.

🤐

GrannyGravy13 Fri 31-Oct-25 13:13:30

I would like to know where the Greta Thunbergs’s are, where are the students who have been waiving Palestinian flags, where are all the vocal activists ?

No outrage an over 150,000 dead, many Christian’s amongst this number.

Where are the monthly/weekly protest marches?

Doodledog Fri 31-Oct-25 10:13:51

Some of the reports coming out of Sudan are heartbreaking. The cruelty of the human race is unbelievable sometimes.
