Lord Justice Bean reported for “apparent bias”
(32 Posts)Lord Justice Bean who delivered the landmark ruling re The Bell Hotel, Epping has been reported to the judiciary amid claims of “apparent bias” over his links to left wing organisations.
Barrister Stephen Barrett spoke at length about this on TV a few days ago and it made sense that LJB has now been reported.

I suggest a planned resettlement programme. English language classes, written an spoken. Cultural education. Supervised Community work. Sports.Religious provision. Responsibility in maintaining their own environment and living conditions.
I suggest enhanced police and Community Support officer presence to increase residents safety. Additional provision at points where groups gather or at vunerable times should ch as children walking to and from school .
I suggest actually listening to residents experiences and concerns instead of just dismissing them with phrases like I’ve never seen that.
These suggestions sound feasible.

Storm in a teacup. Once we go down the road of questioning the perceived ‘biases’ of our judges I think we are sunk. I don’t agree with the judgement but I have to respect their Lordships.
Wow! I agree with you FGT. Mr Justice Eyre, the judge in the original hearing, stood as a Conservative candidate in three general elections, so those claiming bias might very well find that it backfires.
I should hope they have enough integrity to set aside any political preferences they may feel and to judge each case on the facts as presented and according to the law.
And I hope to see pigs flying across the sky later this evening and a huge lottery win to go with it.

Both Farage and the Conservatives have now advocated detention camps. Plenty of room in the far north of Scotland where the weather is not so pleasant in communal tents. We need an immigration policy like Australia which makes it unattractive to come here, knowing they will never be allowed to settle in UK. Plus a suspension from the ECHR and the 1950 Migrant agreements. These latter are being mis-used by so called human rights lawyers for their endless appeals at the expense of the taxpayer. We need to defund them from legal aid.

“… but I have never noticed huge groups of young men just hanging around doing nothing.”
There are thousands of videos on Instagram of these men doing just that - and worse. If you've never seen it or experienced it yourself, then you’re very lucky. Perhaps we could start listening to those that do? The people who are living with the consequences of this?
Although no one’s cared for over twenty years, and I see no sign that the powers that be will even try.
Not in my local towns. I looked on social media, including local Facebook pages. Opinions on Facebook are mixed. There are more complaints about pupils on their way to/from school and the scuffles which break out outside the local 'spoons. Occasionally videos are posted, but every single person in them looks white to me. They're nearly all male, so maybe we should be sending all males off to some island in the middle of the ocean.

Starmer has had a year to ‘smash the gangs’.
That’s all it took for a previous Australian Prime Minister to eliminate illegal migration, with a zero tolerance regime.
Mind you he didn’t have the ECHR brigade to deal with.
The Conservatives had longer than that.
Asylum seekers hanging around in groups probably do this because it is dangerous to venture out alone or in pairs with feelings running so high against them being here.
I imagine some do make a pest of themselves. We have large groups/gangs of young men who come from London to our seaside resort and fight it out with knives and machetes on occasion, none of them are asylum seekers but of the home grown variety. I think the problem here is just young men, regardless of where they are from. And is no coincidence that such problems exist when successive governments have cut police numbers on our streets.
It is government failings for decades that has led to this. And punishing asylum seekers won’t address that.

Asylum seekers 'are given new £300k townhouses with en-suites, EV charging points and underfloor heating'... while locals battle to get on the property ladder
By TOM MIDLANE
Asylum seekers living in the properties are doing so rent-free - with expected rent in the area coming in at around £1,200 for a home of this size.
Instead the houses have been leased by public services firm Serco under a contract with the Home Office. ..
It is believed that only one family has moved into the townhouses so far, and that they arrived by a legal route, not on a small boat.
just saying.

Was that on GB news?
The link was above your post. 😉

griwstuff there was a protest in Braintree today (could have been yesterday)
The main source of concern was large groups of young migrant men hanging around and how the women young and old felt intimidated.
I wasn't in Braintree today or yesterday. All I know is that I've never been concerned by any groups. I haven't seen them and have never been intimidated.

People will be safer if the migrants are just left to roam the streets...?
They do just roam the streets. That’s a massive part of the problem.
A concentration of young men, maybe 100 or more in one neighbourhood, with nothing to do and no guidance.
Add in their experiences of survival and self preservation and it’s no wonder that local residents are struggling with the changes too.
Smash the gangs may be a long tern solution but support for the asylum seekers and the local communities should be a priority now.
What do you suggest?
There are over 800 asylum seekers in the former RAF station at Wethersfield. The nearest town is Braintree, which I visit at least once a month for one reason or another. There is a regular shuttle bus for asylum seekers to the town, but I have never noticed huge groups of young men just hanging around doing nothing.

Labour should make more of the successes they have had, and list the number of 'returns', in comparison to the previous government.
Indeed they should. I've already noticed that the NCA is publishing more of its successes in "smashing gangs".

We had a much better system before Brexit. There was a right to return, that no longer exists.

Instead of housing them it would be better to work on a deterrent. “Smash the gangs” isn’t cutting it, by a long chalk.
Give it a chance! Nobody ever claimed they could be smashed overnight.
