Allira

This is not a pleasant thread.

I hope there are no relatives of anyone mentioned in these distressing old news stories on GN.

Is it supposed to be a game? Because it's neither News nor Politics.

i was 11 when we had the the nights of no electricity and the three day week, going to bed in the dark, at 62 i still have to have a small hall light on as i am afraid of the dark. listening to tony price on radio Luxembourg near tears telling me at 13 elvis had died, hearing what was classed as the first rap song by the sugarhill gang and thinking this is the end of music, i was 16 and my life was all about my new job in the co op and buying music singles and the latest cheap fashion from what every woman wants. andy peebles announcing john lennons death as i was getting ready for work on bbc radio 1, life was simpler back then.

The Suez Crisis. We were living in Egypt at the time and had to be evacuated. When we returned to England (by ship) there was a general strike and soldiers were working at the docks.

Nanna8 it’s amazing how we forget we have already been in the fear of nuclear war

I have horrible memories of hearing Enoch Powels hideous speeches (and he’s back in a new body)

nanna8 Wed 03-Sept-25 06:30:04

We were all warned at school that a nuclear war was imminent and to consider stocking up cans and getting sandbags. Fallout shelters and bunkers were mentioned. London. . Don’t think we would have lasted very long!
