Let’s just hope the Captain spots the next big iceberg in time.

Humour is fairly important when talking about politics, court jester and all that.

I agree that Rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic is a very silly title - sorry, but this is just buying into the sort of media nonsense that we can all do without.

I've never liked cliches, always feel they're used by the creatively challenged.

Oh, I don't know, my thread title wasn't a bit creative, perhaps it's boring!
😂

I like clear thread titles.

David Lammy as Deputy prime Minister. I do not know whether to laugh or cry??!! I will probably do both!

The title is a bit gloomy though. May
be the eternal optimist but I always hope for better.
Often disappointed.

To be honest I quite like the title of this thread - much more fun Sarnia

Rather a drastic way of eclipsing the Reform party conference.

Where is Miliband in all this?

He is waxing lyrically on X about Angela Rayner being one of the best political figures of our time…

"Generations will grow up with stronger rights at work and in new homes because of her vision and leadership"
Ed Miliband

Yes, I was looking for his tweet that is part of it.

Shall we have a thread called ‘Cabinet Reshuffle, what do you think?’
From the beginning that would generate a more balanced debate, rather than another bait dangling Kramer versus Kramer thread, which is becoming increasingly common. Let’s grow up a bit.

Change it if you want or ask the admins to do it, as I haven't changed a title before. And please don't tell me to grow up a bit.

I've started one but yours seems more popular
😁

I am glad she has resigned. She was doing some excellent work in housing.
I am I think glad Lammy has been moved.

I'm pleased that a reshuffle is happening but it should never have had to take this last week's events and this morning's resignation to trigger it. Starmer would have gained so much more respect/kudos if he had had the balls to sort the mess on his own doing.

Allira Fri 05-Sept-25 16:23:02

I'll start one, Casdon, I can copy and paste!

I did type one out but I'm a bit slow!

Good idea.
You start it, I'll re-post on that one.

Allira Fri 05-Sept-25 16:21:17

I was just going to start a thread about the reshuffle but thought I'd check before posting it.

Three women now hold three of the top jobs:
Yvette Cooper as Foreign Secretary
Shabana Mahmood is Home Secretary
Rachel Reeves remains as Chancellor of the Exchequeur.

Interesting.

David Lammy is Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary.

Lucy Powell and Ian Murray have lost their jobs as Leader of the House and Scottish Secretary.

Sir Keir Starmer is having a re-shuffle.
One bright spot for me is Shabana Mahmood becoming Home Secretary. I have a family member who will be disappointed that she is leaving as Justice Minister. They have been working with her at the Ministry and liked her no nonsense and let's crack on with it attitude.
Hopefully, she can bring that to her new role. Yvette Cooper set the bar very low.
