What is the ranking of your hospital trust.

Our local hospital ranked 123 out of 134 tests. Am not surprised we had dreadful experiences when my husband was on the stroke unit for 2 months.
Thought I might be over egging the pudding when I complained about the NHS whilst others were singing its praises the other day.
Well now I have the actual proof I needed.

Not sure where ours was in table but it came under’ Needs improvement’

Even within one hospital. one department will be superb and another appalling

Don't live in England

Apparently these figures will be looked at 3 monthly I think. Pressure….. our two nearest can’t get any worse so the only way is up. I suppose.

Our trust and, another local hospital scheduled for rebuilding, are about in the 40s ! Given they serve very diverse population, they are doing ok but A& E leaves a lot to be desired ! However, I am informed that many people who go to A& E really need to see a GP
I am not sure that these standings can be justified , a bit like the ubiquitous school league tables ! Sets one group against another as opposed to what should be happening which is sharing best practice !

Our trust ranks 9th on the league tables. I can't praise them highly enough. I had excellent service and care when I had my gallbladder removed last year.

The trouble with ranking by trust and not individual local hospitals is that it does not necessarily give an accurate picture of how the hospital nearest to you is performing.

That’s a problem. Our local hospital left DH in agony, deferring his operation several times, including once when he was in the ward. gowned and prepped.
PALS took up the matter for us.

Another hospital in the same trust was willing and able to operate if we could get there early the following morning.
We did, the operation was successful and the after care great, though it meant travelling for nearly 2 hours each way, instead of a few miles.
Yet they’re all grouped in the same trust. I wonder which hospitals dragged their placing down.

Ours was 120th in the table .Everyone hates the place . Most of the staff are great but having lost a family member in the place for me it has to rank amongst the worst places I’ve ever come across. The care that my late father received in a Norfolk teaching hospital was way better than the care my family received from this dump of a place.
It’s grim and depressing and it’s due to be replaced. ( All we have heard from various governments is platitudes and promises)!
We treat our animals better than we are treated in this place

I would like to know how they came to finding the best etc before agreeing with the result.
At the turn of the century both myself and my late father had the same operation on our fingers and we both were not happy with the result compared to having the same operation on various other hospitals.

Scotland doesn't rank.

Aberdeen hospital has the worst rating, I dread of having ever to go there.

The rankings mentioned are for English Trusts. Scotland doesn't do the have a ranking system.

GWH ranked 76. I’m sure some depts are better than others. I waited hours in the eye dept where it was standing room only for sone as 2/3 scanners were non operational.

FranP Wed 10-Sept-25 15:35:05

Think it depends how they rank. MIL was give 5* treatment at the old Papworth but the place was falling apart because they were planning to move it.
Peterborough is a newish build and I cannot fault the maxilofacial and renal depts, but don't get me started on the A&E shambles
As to QMC in Nottingham, I would not go there EVER.

was he in Pagglesham ward think I read a similar comment today in my local paper. I was in the main stroke ward about 5 years ago for a couple of weeks and found the ward I was on very good but of course I did not need rehab.

Should be the other way around? The trusts with poor rankings obviously need more help and more money? They also need to change those ‘in charge’!

Not neccesarily so. it could be that they are badly managed and their financial control is poor. and, as you say, it could be bad management.

But I noted the hospital at the bottom of the list has hospital buildings - in use. Depending on acroprops to stop it falling down. It cannot be easy running a hospital when the buildings ar collapsing around you.

My hospital trust is near the bottom - my late DH was taken there after his accident and was moved from there to one in the same county rated even lower that was the only one to do the specialist operation he needed. Sadly DH died a few days later but the ICU nurse in charge of him was wonderful and pulled out all the stops to help him. However, I'm now trying extra hard to stay well!

Ours is in top 12 . Care is very good in all departments but there are still long waiting lists for most departments. There are clinics and treatment centres in some doctors surgeries, opticians, office blocks and some private hospitals also carry out procedures. I have had testing done at weekends. The trust is doing all it can to bring down waiting lists but the local population is growing rapidly and it is difficult to meet the increased demand.

Cronesrule Wed 10-Sept-25 14:32:44

Not convinced this league table information meaningful or helpful. Mine is 31 but both DH and I have been on wait lists for months. Previous experience of waiting lists has been much better. Service has certainly declined. Always suspicious of league tables.

I have also experienced this in my parents’ hospital .
I go in with anti bac spray and a big pack of floor wipes . We had to take in her own pull ups when she became incontinent. No one could tell us why last week she was working and that week she was doubly incontinent and panicking thinking she was in the war Or a train station . She was meant to be on level 4 oxygen 24/7 . Whenever I went in she was on no oxygen . Got told off for putting it on but there was no one to do it or answer the call bells .

Graunty7 Wed 10-Sept-25 14:20:41

Interestingly my mums’s hospital is a three. This is the hospital where she went in with a chest infection and contracted E. coli c diff pneumonia copd sepsis flu and much more. She nearly died. It is disgustingly filthy and the sheets were these blue stretchy things with holes in them which can’t be boil washed like cotton, there were no pillows or blankets. Similar happened to my dad went in for pain management within a week he could hardly walk talk write.
Mum was moved 5 times in 4 weeks. No continuity no one to talk to.
With both parents we removed them to nursing homes as they were about to die.
They didn’t go into hospital to die.

They are both a year later alive . The nursing homes were brilliant at feeding and medicating them . Obviously they are now terminally ill but still functioning . Dad was 98 this year and mum 89.

Our hospitals in Suffolk are a 4. But the service is amazing and they are very clean . We have a brilliant first responder and heli med service. The staff are very caring

Our hospital is the one that came bottom of the list. I spent 6 weeks there after I had a stroke with no problems whatsoever. The staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. DH has been an inpatient several times for a heart condition and an outpatient in Dermatology again with no problems. Yes thee roof is being held up in several places and we are awaiting a new hospital which allegedly should be built in 2030 - something! Having spoken to a nurse at the hospital this morning she confirmed many of the staff are gutted and deflated on reading that the hospital they work so hard in is relegated to the bottom of the list.
Maybe if the Government had built the new hospital that is so badly needed when they originally promised it we would not be in this position

The one my daughters live near is ranked 18. Mine is 31 and I have to say it's been brilliant for both me (breast cancer) and my husband (various internal checks - there isn't an inch of his alimentary canal un-photographed this year!)
