I like the cut of her jib.

Any thoughts?

The choice appears to be a second-rate bunch conjured up from a shambolic second-rate party. And all steered into unknown waters by a very vague Captain Flip-Flop.

So who would you like to have governing this country?

Haven't seen much of her lately but always thought she talks too much and too forcefully: a bit naggy really.

Islington based, far too London centric everyone will remember her for "I've never seen anything like it" comment when confronted with house bedecked with Union Jacks.

That's not what she said in the tweet she was condemned for.

It just said 'Image from Rochester' over a picture of a white van in front of a house draped with 2 St George's crosses.

You're either thinking of something else or making it up.

In the link you provide, further down she is quoted as having told the Daily Mail "It had three huge flags covering the whole house. I've never seen anything like it before. I've never seen a house completely covered in flags" She could have looked closer at the photo she posted because those flags simply don't cover the whole house at all. An attempt at damage limitation after a snobbish post.
I can't see where Terribull has said the comments were part of the tweet, and she clearly isn't making it up.

She wouldn't be my choice.
She wouldn't automatically become Deputy Prime Minister anyway; are any other posts vacant?

It's sad that she says she had a poor upbringing after her parents divorced. Her father can't have been very responsible to leave them impoverished when he was under-secretary-general of the United Nations.
She has done well despite all that.

Ed Miliband must have been annoyed by her tweet because he agreed she should resign. She did apologise and said "People should fly the England flag with pride!".

Primrose53

She’s another one who interrupts and talks over people on TV.

You mean like most of the interviewers eg Trevor Phillips…

Call her Lady Nugee. She hates that apparently.

Whoever. Thankfully it is more or less a ceremonial position.

I don't think it will be if a left leaning MP gets it.

I’m thinking that the role of deputy leader of the Labour Party, ideally shouldn’t be another Islington based lawyer with a human rights background. Far too similar to Starmer.

They’re are a few younger women MPs from northern working class backgrounds which would offer a contrast to Starmer. Bridget Phillipson is the obvious example. She is quite a good speaker and usually stands up for herself in the Radio 4 Today interviews.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 09-Sept-25 21:12:10

It’s a bit like when they announce the ‘celebrities’ on Strictly - most of them you’ve never heard of….

Sorry, I mistyped Thornberry.

Emily Thirnberry is definitely not the choice of the left, they would go for Bell Ribiero-Addy, although I think it’s going to be tough for her to get the 80 supporters needed amongst the MPs to get through the first round.

StripeyGran Tue 09-Sept-25 20:57:02

a right old bruiser, ah well, my mistake.

Not in the same league as Johnson, Farage and Trump then?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 09-Sept-25 20:56:27

From the Guardian today:

“To be clear, the job is not deputy leader of the parliamentary Labour party but of the whole party: its members, councillors, trade unions and affiliates. Part of the job is to act as a voice and a bridge between these different rich elements.”

Anniebach Tue 09-Sept-25 20:51:59

No, she suffers from foot in mouth, there was ‘White man van plus Union Jack, can’t remember if the flags were on his van or house, recently she called the US Ambassador ‘clearly an idiot ‘
on twitter
,

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 09-Sept-25 20:50:23

She wouldn’t be standing in for Starmer at PMQs MayBee. That’s the job of the Deputy Prime Minister (Lammy, now Rayner has quit). This ‘non job’ is for the position of Deputy Leader. Not the same thing at all.

You might but I don’t think white van man from Rochester does 😂

She did point out that she didn’t mean to be offensive and that her own brother is a white van man. Unfortunately some politicians can get away with saying unfortunate things ( look at some of the things Boris Johnson said over the years but still people voted for him in their droves) and with others it sticks and won’t go away. I do think she would be very good when substituting for the PM at PMQT.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 09-Sept-25 20:42:25

She’s a right old bruiser. If she wins (she won’t) she’ll be gunning for Starmer, rallying the troops on the hard left. I’m not a fan.

crazyH Tue 09-Sept-25 20:37:15

Neither do I WW

Whitewavemark2 Tue 09-Sept-25 20:35:04

I have no idea what anyone is talking about😄😄

StripeyGran Tue 09-Sept-25 20:31:35

Oh gosh, I had no idea. Just like her articulate voice on the radio.

Bit of straw clutching.
