Russian drones violate Polish Air Space

I read in the El Pais Newspaper this morning that Poland and other E.U. Nations are closing their airspace and ports from Russia / Bellarus / North Korea / and also that the E.U. has ended their trading / sales of all weapons / ammunition / and related items from Israel for their relentless hatred and starvation of not permitting food aide amongst other basic items for the mothers and children that are un-armed ..

This far right psycho needs to be put in jail. Killing children by starvation and their mothers is a crime against humanity ..

Putin sees Trump as a push over so is testing NATO. Chine will probably be on the beach in Taiwan very soon.

Trump is the most dangerous man in the world at the moment.

Oh lovingit, what a worry for you. I hope that international reactions to this event give you some comfort.

My son and family live in Poland and I am so worried.

According to the Danish news yesterday Russian spokesmen were simply saying that they are accustomed to groundless accusations from the West.

Presumably, that means "Wasn't us, some other fellow must have done it".

Of course, no-one here believes that, but I doubt very much that Russia will admit being responsible.

We all assume that Putin is testing the water, and we are all still waiting for Trump to say something, aren't we?

And yes, Europe is getting its act together, but re-opening closed munitions factories, buying new military equipment, including warships takes time and costs money, which most countries do not necessarily have without cutting down on essential domestic expenditure and increasing taxation.

Neither way of finding the money will necessarily go down well with the electorate.

Very hard to tell if this was Russia's intention,. or just incompetence. Don't rule out the latter - remember the commercial airliner they shot down (while trying to deny it of course?). The responsible commander disappeared from sight - and probably life - very soon afterwards.

Russia has to tread a very fine line, between the ongoing war -- essentially to massage Putin's ego -- and trying to keep everything going at home.

I read y'day that they are increasingly short of oil and fuel, as Ukraine keeps on damaging pipelines and refineries. They are also short of manpower, thx to the incredibly high casualty rate in Ukraine, plus a substantial rate of emigration.

Putin may of course get boosted by another meeting with Chump -- to get a big kiss on the other cheek (or whatever the Donald considers to be 'tough' in that respect?!).

Oh I would be surprised if it was an error, although Putin will treat it as such.

Just testing the water I guess, ready for the next expansion.

Important that europe gets its act together.

Exactly this.

I think he was testing Nato's response, remains to be seen what he'll do next. Especially interesting to see what Trump will do, if anything. He's made so many threats re sanctions but nothing seems to have come of them.
Interesting comments from AGA44 re recent meeting with heads of China, North Korea & India so recently.

From the Belarus Weekly this morning, 'Poland is to draw an iron curtain across its border with Belarus. At midnight all transit between the two countries will be halted.'

Maybe Russia is being emboldened by the fact that many countries are being sidetracked from Ukraine and that part of the world by Israel’s aggression towards other countries hmm?

I think the Ukrainians are right to be upset that their awful situation has been pushed down the news agenda by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Mr Netanyahu has much to be ashamed of.

Like AGAA4 I also think that Mr Putin will have been emboldened by mixing with his cronies during the Chinese exhibition of military power last week.

Poland and Finland need strong friends, not politicians distracted by petty infighting in their own parties (eg UK, France)

NannaFirework Thu 11-Sept-25 13:48:19

It was horrifying.
Putin doesn’t care about anyone but his own ego - I’m very worried about what’s next.

It is thought that Putin wanted to see if NATO would react which it did so he may need another rethink.
Analysts believe that it was aggression and not a mistake by Russia.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-Sept-25 14:16:53

I think Putin will pull back for now.

We have to go in hard and fast. He is testing the water and we can’t give an inch.

Prime minister Tusk says Poland is at its closest to open conflict since WW2.
Nato will be involved if Russia continues. At present they aren't saying much about their drone attack.

19 incursions.

4 shot down by NATO fire.

That is the concerning element WWM2 NATO’s immediate involvement.

Russia met with China and North Korea very recently. Has Putin been emboldened by that meeting.

China and Russia want to be the world leaders with the East taking over in prominence from the West.

It seems that this attack on Poland came very soon after the meeting.

keepingquiet Wed 10-Sept-25 08:41:28

Sometimes Putin does things because he can- he's been doing it for years.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 10-Sept-25 08:30:01

One can only hope, GrannyGravy. I am sure that many geographically vulnerable countries will have lived in fear of such an escalation.
However, the Ukraine initiative has cost Russia dear. I am sure that the thinking at the highest level was that this would be an easy win, but it has proved to be a disastrous and long entrenched campaign.
Although it's always difficult to know what the people of Russia really know, and really think, there are rumours of discontent at the loss of life and the privations suffered by ordinary citizens as the result of decisions taken by their murderous leaders.
Expansion would seem a very unwise move at this time.

AGAA4 Wed 10-Sept-25 08:21:52

It seems it was deliberate aggression by Russia. This is worrying as Poland is a Nato country. Dangerous situation for Europe.

I have just seen this in Breakfast News.

Poland are reporting that there were no injuries, and that the drones entering their airspace were taken down

Polish people in the area have been told to stay home until the drone wreckage is cleared.

I hope this was an error by someone on the ground in Russia, as if not it is a deliberate escalation of Russias aggression.
