This must be a sad day for England

More than 100,000 people in central London have joined a march organised by far-right activist Tommy Robinson

I ll say no more it’s devastating for this country

Maremia Sun 14-Sept-25 17:10:37

And no, not off piste Allira, simply pointing out to anyone on here who is wary of 'others', how much foreign 'influence' has enhanced our lives.

I don’t think that calling all people worried about illegal immigration stupid or racist will help but then neither do I think that calling all Muslims woman-hating-sharia-loving extremists who don’t share our values will help either.
This is about all of us, and if we want to unify as a nation we have to include all those who have made this nation what it is, and that includes indigenous English people and those from other cultures/religions who
have made this country their home.

I agree, we all have to get along. Or face a Northern Island situation of constant sectarian violence. Is that what we want for our kids? However I think Russia is going to kick off soon against NATO and this will all be the least of our worries. We'll see exactly how brave these men draped in the flag are then maybe? I suspect they will be f'ing useless.

Maremia Sun 14-Sept-25 17:06:05

Yes, those Bangladeshi chefs are British, and they brought their culture from outwith these islands, but how do they feel today walking about town where flags are flying? Welcome? Intimidated?

Babs03 and growstuff totally agree with you that most Muslims are lovely people. I have a good friend, a doctor locally, she attended Hadj last year.

However.
There is a flip side to all this kumbaya.

Why is that school teacher who was hounded out by a baying mob in Batley still in hiding all these years on?

It’s not all flowers and lollipops. Good and bad in all religions.
I’m a Humanist so I have no skin in the game but I do like fairness. In everything and for everyone.

Nowt wrong with that!

A Humanist? An Atheist, maybe but Humanists UK promote tolerance, empathy and kindness. I've not seen much evidence of this in some of your recent posts. Also, your "some of my best friends are muslim" is a bit of a cliche.

Also, your "some of my best friends are muslim" is a bit of a cliche.
Yet it keeps being used by several posters claiming friends, family members, second cousins three times removed etc. to prove how tolerant they are compared to other posters.

Actually it's to say how invested we are in our family and friends. Weird probably to you but hey....

I loathe people being called stupid as well. It is why we are where we are.

What do you do when they obviously are? Lie?

Action Palestine don’t have more arrests because of violence. It has been declared an illegal/terrorist group that cannot gather on our streets so the police have to try to arrest everyone, which is such a wasted use of police time when those attending one of these demos are not violent or in any way terrorists.

I have my Plasticene Action T shirt ready for when I get to the UK on Wednesday. Such an overreach of terrorism laws. I would not have expected this kind of thing from a Labour Gov. I will vote Lib Dem next time.

Yes there was violence so not a distorted view. People should have remembered the Southport riots instigated by Tommy Robinson and yet they turned out to listen to him.

Obviously thousands of people are interested in what TR has to say, he appears to be filling a vacuum that other parties aren’t.

I am trying to understand their reasons, without calling them names, or saying they are uneducated.

I will say again I do not support TR

^I really want to understand why people who are not racist or islamophobic, who don't intend to be violent and genuinely want a united Britain would turn out to march with Tommy Robinson. As yet no one has given me a reason.^

I didn't march, I live too far away from London, but as it said on the news, many people who did march were there not to fight, or because they are racist. But because they wanted to express their concern.

They may be told they have to wait three weeks for a doctor's appointment, or their children can't find suitable housing, and many other similar reasons, as these are being taken up by the large numbers of immigrants entering the country.

No British government can manage the needs of the current population it has already. And to continually add so many more people into the mix is making everything so much worse.

So why did they march with someone like TR, he didn't have a manifesto for improving the NHS. If he turfed out all the NHS workers who are here on visas the NHS would collapse. He didn't have a plan for building more houses either.

Primrose53 Sun 14-Sept-25 16:33:24

Footage of yesterday just shown again clearly shows the counter protestors dressed in black and all wearing black masks. rent a mob out in force again. I thought masks were not supposed to be worn now.

GrannyGravy It wasn't a distorted statement as there was violence .Ask the 26 policeman who were hurt. I didn't say the whole 150000 were involved.

I acknowledged in my post that there was violence.

The people I know wouldn't attend a march organised by Tommy Robinson with a guest appearance of Elon Musk.
I understand how fed up people are but don't understand the reason to attend. It was bound to end in violence.

It’s been acknowledged that there was a small section of the march that ended in violence, the other 99% of participants were peaceful.

I am not a supporter of TR but I really do not like distorted statements

I thought he was still in prison.
Obviously not.

MayBee70 Sun 14-Sept-25 16:11:43

“Robinson served five prison terms between 2005 and 2025. In 2013, he illegally entered the United States using a friend's passport. In 2018 he violated a court order by publishing a Facebook Live video of defendants entering court. Prior to sentencing, he appeared on the American far-right website InfoWars to appeal for political asylum in the US. In 2021, he was subjected to a five-year stalking prevention order for harassing the journalist Lizzie Dearden and her partner. In 2021, he was found to have libelled a 15-year-old refugee at a school in Huddersfield and was ordered to pay £100,000 plus legal costs. After breaching an injunction about repeating the libel, Robinson was sentenced to 18 months in prison for contempt of court in October 2024; the sentence length was later reduced after he said he would comply with the injunction in future. In June 2022, Robinson said that he spent £100,000 in gambling before declaring bankruptcy in March 2021. He also said he owed an estimated £160,000 to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The Times said that he owes in the region of £2 million to his creditors, and is the subject of a HMRC investigation over unpaid taxes.”

If only those who seem to be afraid of Muslims taking over the country or all of us governed by Sharia law could realise how terrified some of us are by people like Yaxley Lennon and his followers sad.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 14-Sept-25 16:08:56

I should add that they are not fans of TR, are not far right some have concerns around immigration, some do not, some are not white either.

And yet Starmer called us ‘an island of strangers’.

He actually said “we risk becoming an island of strangers”.

GG13 but what do they feel the likes of TR is offering them. In his speech he was talking about revolution, but what I didn't get was revolution to achieve what? TBH I think TR would like white supremacy with him and his boys wielding the power. I honestly don't think the "silent majority" that he thinks he is talking to, actually would want that, would they?

I have no idea what all the silent majority think as I do not know them.

The people I do know are heartily disappointed in the current government, and no faith in the other political parties.

^Read back over the thread.^

Probably not, I was avoiding it but if you could give me time and date of the post, I'll look. Thank you 🙂

Well I could trawl through but was annoying enough the first time.
In any case it comes as no surprise that people openly say such things because Farage, TR, and Musk have made racism/Islamophobia mainstream.
But am afraid you will have to take my word or not.

Preserving British culture? Footage on social media showing a flag clothed gentleman and his friends consuming delicious onion bhajis on his way to yesterday's family festival.
Which part of England was it that created such tasty cuisine?

The Indians who make onion bhajis ARE British.

Did you see the black guy who was marching yesterday in support of preserving British culture? Dressed head to toe in Union Jack suit, UJ hat and UJ sunglasses. He looked fantastic and said he was so proud to live here.

But what is British culture? I have no doubt that most (if not all) people who have either come from other countries or who have been born here are proud to be British. I'm proud to be British but I don't expect to share the same culture as everyone else who is British. I bet I have a very different culture to the man you describe and that's absolutely fine. We don't need to share a culture, what we need is to be tolerant of people with a culture different to our own but who live in our society. Our different cultures enrich us, they certainly don't take anything away.
