I doubt that Oreo, as circa 2m attend Notting Hill Carnival. I wondered if it was Party in the Park, the Radio 2 event?

This must be a sad day for England
(615 Posts)More than 100,000 people in central London have joined a march organised by far-right activist Tommy Robinson
I ll say no more it’s devastating for this country
Notting Hill carnival by any chance?
I wasn’t at the Unite the Kingdom event and not in any way supporting the actions of TR et al.
I have been told that people who travel long distances to take part in rallies or other events are environmentally damaging.
We have read about the violence and arrests.
In response to an earlier post by Robin202 about violence in any gathering, it’s worth noting this information from the MET about a recent event.
^As of 19:45hrs, there had been 140 total arrests as part of the policing operation.
105 arrests took place at **** itself, while 35 took place on the approaches to **** as a result of proactive policing interventions.^
Of those 35 arrests on the approaches, 13 followed positive identifications using live facial recognition.
A breakdown of the total offences is below:
Assault on police – 15
Possession of an offensive weapon – 21
Possession of cannabis – 25
Possession of class A drugs – 6
Possession of other drugs – 2
Possession with intent to supply drugs – 19
Robbery – 2
Public order – 4
Sexual offences – 4
Other – 42
This wasn’t at the UTK event, but at a ^*family day out.*
There is no excuse for the violence at either event, but are we being told that the family event violence was far right as well?
Wasn’t Yaxley Lennon accused (convicted of?) stalking a woman?
I find it sad and quite scary that people are buying into Yaxley Lennon’s pretense that he and his followers are simply patriots who ‘want their country back’ and want to protect ‘our women and children’. Have a look at this lot-
Richard Price, former EDL leader: four counts of making indecent images of children.
• Jack Renshaw - EDL, BNP, National Action: four counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
• Wayne Kirby - Tommy Robinson associate: served six years after being convicted for rape in 2007.
• Bradley Daniel Alford, EDL: 6 yrs, indecent photos, inciting a child to engage in sexual intercourse.
• Kristopher Allan, SDL: convicted for messages, images, and sexual contact involving a 13 year old.
• Luke Atkinson, UKIP & Yorkshire EDL: jailed 4 yrs, 8 mths, grooming young teenagers.
• Alan Boulter, EDL and all round racist: 20 mths, attempted grooming.

And these are the people others are lauding for upholding ‘Christian values’?
Ronib I agree that internet shopping will have contributed.
However, I’ve been communicating with local councillors about the town centre decline for some time, and have been told that cuts in government funding to the council, across many years, has led to the disastrous lack of investment in the town.
My main point really is that I resent the trope, often repeated on GN, that those of us who are supportive of the plight of immigrants must obviously all live in elite, middle class, protected bubbles.
We don’t!
It is possible to live in a deprived area and be supportive of immigrants!
Robin202
The words ‘Far Right’ are bandied about far too freely. To feel patriotic about our country of birth and to want to retain our Christian values is not a crime or worthy of such a label.
Did you know many of the major supermarkets use Halal slaughter?
Do you think that’s acceptable?
Sharia courts too?
Threats to white women and children from those with third world customs?
Grooming gangs? All acceptable?
There are ghettos in the UK where you would not feel safe to walk.
Been to Whitechapel in London of late? Step off the tube and you think you’ve arrived in Bangladesh.
Should we feel like outsiders in certain areas of our own country?
Those who live in the rolling green hills of England, like I do, or in a retirement area of confortable houses and bungalows with like minded neighbours, are protected, in a bubble, from these mass societal changes occurring in many towns and cities.
But those who don’t, are feeling it.
Yes, there will always be extremists in any mass gathering, out to cause trouble for the sake of it and paid agitators too.
But there are also concerned families, retirees, from all walks of life, who choose to unite as British people who want to conserve what was once, a pride in Britain.
Well said Robin202
👏👏👏👏👏
I expect many would have preferred Nigel to arrange a march but as he didn’t they joined the only one available! Must be any port in a storm
LizzieDrip The internet must be in part a factor in the reduction of shops in the high street. It’s not entirely bad / online grocery shopping must have contributed to less car journeys. EBay has promoted recycling with the sales of second hand goods. I can now buy clothes for myself and my grandchildren when asked, for a fraction of the full retail price. Amazon too has its benefits. It will be cheaper, I imagine to hold stock in warehouses rather than expensive shopping malls. Our local shopping mall is buzzing but offers various activities other than shopping.

No, really? Surely that never happens at any other protest rallies?
Do you think the violence wouldn’t have happened if some unpolitically motivated group had asked people to rally and show pride in being British or English?
Or is showing pride in being English, Scottish, Welsh or even just British now considered dangerous?
But there are also concerned families, retirees, from all walks of life, who choose to unite as British people who want to conserve what was once, a pride in Britain.
Unfortunately for them, by attending, they will immediately be accused of supporting TR or whichever name he goes by and what he stands for, when that may not have been their intention at all.
And by travelling to the venue, they also run the risk of being told they are being environmentally damaging, etc. etc.
My thoughts precisely.

I agree, Dd.
I thought the poster was reproducing a list that Wwmk2 had originally posted, but I couldn’t be bothered to check back over this depressing thread.
Otherwise, just a mistaken identity. I don’t think it’s worth reporting. It would be good if SoD came back to apologise, though. It would be good if SoD came back to apologise, though.
Do you think that's likely? 🤔
Likewise the other misidentification and other misunderstandings, this is getting silly now.
Do I think it's likely? No, I don't.
Not because I have any animosity towards SoD, but because their posting style seems to be make a post, but don't join in any discussion or feedback about it. Which is how some posters work and I'm happy to accept that.
I really don't think it's worth making a fuss about or using it to create further division.
Robin 202, what do you mean by Christian values ?I don't see much love for your neighbour in your post .

Robin202 please don’t speak for me, or my community.
I live in one of the most deprived towns in the UK, not in a ‘comfortable bubble’ or ‘rolling green hills’. I’ve lived here for over 40 years so know what I’m talking about.
My town recently received the dubious accolade of having the greatest numbers of high street shop closures in the UK. What was once a vibrant, lively town centre now looks like something from a dystopian disaster film.
We have many immigrants in the town.
When you say people living in such towns are “feeling it”, I agree.
But what we are feeling is anger at 14+ years of managed decline, not anger at people who have come to live here from elsewhere. The decline of our high street has absolutely nothing to do with immigrants.
Folk in my town know this; we are very well aware of who is to blame!

I would like to add one more
By all means show your support for someone whose rhetoric has frequently used anti-Semitic tropes and terms
These are not people a single one of us should support.
Hello.
I’ve been avoiding this thread for obvious reasons.
SoD I assume that you simply meant to reinforce what I had originally posted.
So I am happy to let it stand unless of course you meant me 😊. In which case perhaps you might like to have it removed.
But honestly? Either way I don’t mind as posters will know my position so it doesn’t matter.
Bang on the money Robin02 and those who shriek racist at every turn will be those in protective bubbles.

As I keep trying gently to say there is some very unusual stuff going on, on GN at the moment.
I am sure Whitewave doesn't need or want my help but she categorically doesn't support Reform or Tommy Robinson.
Very unusual stuff 😁

WWM2 has frequently and consistently stated the opposite than your list of statements in the 4 years I've known her in GN, StoneofDestiny. what brought these accusations on is utterly confuffling to me.
Perhaps just a typing error or something?
Easy to get carried away.
I'm still perplexed as to how someone who professes to be a humanist, wants a quiet life, even has Muslim friends (!) consistently starts nasty threads and believes that performance on Saturday was a fun family day out.
Are you accusing BlueBelle the OP here of this?
What with that and another poster mixing up Whitewavemark2 this is getting silly.🤔

It was simply incorrect. Not Whitewave
Agreed. Mistaken Identity rather than a deliberate lie, I think.
