This is one of many reasons why so many people marched in London.

Another dangerous illegal immigrant being housed courtesy of the British tax payer.

Abdelrahmen Abouelela was in a bomb making cell in Egypt, they were planning terrorist attacks.

He found his way to Turkey where he now has a wife and child.
He left them and arrived illegally in the UK

Home Office officials spent 17 months pondering over whether or not to grant his asylum application, despite apparently knowing of his bomb-making conviction, before he raped the vulnerable woman in Hyde Park last November.

17 months to decide if should be granted asylum……this should have taken 17 seconds and now a poor woman has been raped.

I would love to know how much this man will have cost us by the time he ends his prison sentence then approaches the ECHR and will no doubt avoid deportation.

I am becoming more wary, I think it is possible that it may also be used to overturn the supreme court ruling on the definition of sex/ single sex spaces (there is a challenge in progrss as far as I understand) - I am watching that with concern. But I think I am certainly no longer at the place of 'oh of course this is a good thing'.

Baby and bath water?

Until someone comes up with as good a protection for me and my family I am very, very wary over those who glibly say it should be repealed.

Much wiser people then those repealers constructed that law.

This story is not quite true.
Wife no2 and 3 year old twins have joined him in the 1 bed retirement apartment.
The other children and wife live elsewhere in the UK.
Wife no2 came here on a spousal visa.

Amazing as a good friends son couldn’t bring his lovely Russian wife to the UK despite her having the promise of work, her husband is a high earner and they had accommodation.
She got here eventually but after jumping through many hoops.

Well it was the Daily Mail!!!

The sooner we stop obeying the diktats of the ECHR the better, or rather those of the Human Rights Lawyers, of which Starmer was one, the better. It is good that people are beginning to realise that it was not ineptitude that prevented the Conservatives from reducing mass illegal migration as they had promised, but the ECHR.
Starmer's professed policies are at a testing point; it will be interesting to see where his true loyalties lie.

Meanwhile our new Home Secretary has made a strong statement about 'protecting our borders'. Yes, it was about a different case, but let's see what she can and will do.

Sorry that was an answer to Whitewaves question.

Can you tell I have had enough of it all?
On this forum, and in real life.

It all makes me feel sick. And my blood turn cold.

Oh sorry but i don't play the game of agree with me or your abortion rights are a risk. Seen that tactic before.
Danny kruger holds different views to me on abortion and actually they are more complex than suggested above, but my views on ECHR ( and I have other concerns not just relating to deportation of rapists) will not be impacted by that.

Good for you.

There will be lots of tactics, and lots of "clever" words, if it does get nearer to being rewritten.
No end in fact.

People have to weigh up what everyone would lose if we were to lose the rights afforded to us all under the Human Rights Act 1998. ECHR is enacted in the UK through this.

I have posted this before but it really is worth reading. Click on each section to see how it could affect you:

Think about what could happened if we were to end up with a draconian right wing government - which is looking a distinct possibility. Farage has already said he wants to rip up the HRA.

Losing rights under Article 8 means you would not be involved in decisions over your own body and life, including your care or treatment.

www.bihr.org.uk/get-informed/what-rights-do-i-have/the-right-to-respect-for-private-and-family-life-home-and-correspondence

Sitting Tory MP Danny Kruger has just joined Reform. He does not believe that women should have autonomy over their own bodies. Just think about that might play out with a Trump-adoring PM and a MAGA-style government. Gilead might not be that far away.

Be careful what you wish for just to deport a criminal.

Nothing to stop it getting rewritten.
Is there?
Start again with it.

No probably not be deported, because of his right to a family life. Oops, forgot, he left them behind in Turkey.

Yes but will it happen once the leftie lawyers get involved. Time will tell.

They aren’t “leftie” lawyers who on Earth told you that lie?

They are lawyers employed to protect and uphold our rule of law, both as prosecution and defence lawyers.

A core principle in our law is that everyone going to a court of law is entitled to legal representation. If lawyers refused to represent anyone, our legal system would fall apart

Deportation should be automatic if an asylum seeker commits a crime in the UK. They should be given no chance for lawyers to find reasons for them to stay here.

This.

Yes I read that Sarnia. It’s disgusting. The whole lot of them should be shipped back to Bangladesh. Why do people support Tommy Robinson? Here is your answer right here. People are sick of these scum and freeloaders.

I’d bet he doesn’t get deported and next thing his wife and child will be here too. Then he will claim he can’t be deported because of them. Then they will be housed and live on benefits over here. Amongst many like them.

There was an article in the Daily Mail (Yes, I know!) where a Bangladeshi man had come to this country and had been housed in a flat in a retirement complex. Within weeks, here comes his wife and 7 children to join him and more recently wife number 2 and her 2 children have arrived.
The local authority are trying to evict him as he has breached his tenancy agreement. He claims he cannot understand written English. By a stroke of luck he was able to read the benefits claim form and receives an additional disability allowance as he cannot work due to depression and sleep apnoea. How does sleep apnoea affect you at work? He is demanding a large house otherwise he refuses to move out. Meanwhile the elderly people in the retirement complex are complaining about 9 out of control children making their lives a misery. He now has a lawyer fighting his case, no doubt paid for by the taxpayer. Any bets on who will win?

Babs03 Thu 18-Sept-25 08:46:47

Obviously this man is a criminal and so should be deported but our judicial process can be slow, and though this is frustrating like WWM2 I do support due legal process.
I also support the ECHR, and would recommend everyone supports a court that upholds human rights, seeing as we are all human and can have our rights compromised, no matter how upset we are about the present situation going down the road of eroding human rights is a slippery slope.
Also is worth adding that this man is one bad apple, he by no means represents all asylum seekers coming here. And the likes of Farage and Yaxley Lennon can only cause division and hatred, their agenda is not to get to grips with the small boats debacle.
Only the government can do this so I recommend people do march on Westminster but without the likes of Yaxley Lennon and Musk, and that they are campaigning and petitioning government with the help of MPs or councillors, with possible political solutions to small boats.

That’s what I think, but I am also a strong supporter of the rule of law.

Change the law.
Then you can still support it.

Yes did you not see my post that suggested “tweaking” it.

But I think we need to be very careful.

After the atrocities committed on all sides during the two wars, people like Churchill in their wisdom, understood that people need protecting from their governments.

This is one of our (as ordinary citizens) line of defence. And we need it more than ever today.

Some people do fear for the future, but what on earth makes them believe that chancers like Farage and Stephen Yaxley Lennin will make it any better?
What proof do they have of any 'good' that they have done?

They don't have any proof but at the moment these 2 are like a lifebelt to a drowning man.
