Thank goodness someone has the bravery to speak out, I honestly believe that he was trying to accustom the American people to seeing troops on the ground in their cities in preparation for a possible second insurrection should he need it.

Trumpy Trumps no holds barred address to the UN.
(219 Posts)Well what an address!
I agree with every word.
We have been warned, I just hope it’s not too late.
Brave, brave judge! Now people should speak out and support the legal system. But in that dystopian country many will be afraid to fo such a thing.
Quote from U.S. Democratic Socialists Facebook page five hours ago :·
"BREAKING: Trump-appointed judge was so pissed at Trump that she BANNED his deployment of the ANY state's Nat Guard to Portland. Brutal ruling!
Just one day ago, Judge Immergut already told Trump he couldn't send military troops to Portland, because it was blatantly illegal. But the next day, he ordered 300 National Guardsmen to Portland. Worse, he and Pete Hegseth called up 400 National Guard troops from Texas to send ANYWHERE HE WANTED.
INSTANT KARMA: California and Oregon instantly sued. She granted them a hearing the very same day! Bad sign for Donald. It got immediately very, very bad for him...
She asked his lawyer how his actions with the CA and TX National Guard was not a direct violation of her order. He had no answers. She constantly reminded him he was "an officer of the court". That is judicial speak for, "You could get disbarred for this."
Then she granted a BAN on California National Guard troops to Portland. But it got even better.
The Oregon lawyer said it was a "game of whac a mole" with Trump, with each city needing to fight in court, with new troops... so he asked the court to block him from deploying National Guard troops from any state to Oregon.
Judge Immergut agreed, and banned Trump from putting ANY National Guard troops in Portland.
She said Trump’s actions violate both federal law (10 U.S.C. §12406) and the Tenth Amendment, and directly defy her ruling from just one day ago. “No new information has been provided about any new issues in Portland,” she said pointedly.
The Department of Justice begged for a stay, but Immergut shot it down: “I’m denying both sets of motions for a stay and an administrative stay.”
The Constitution isn’t a toy for fascists. It’s a shield for the people. Judge Immergut just reminded Trump he’s not above it. SCOTUS, I hope you're listening to this Trump appointed judge!

It is interesting, I have relatives in California and friends in New England, they despise Trump. Millions may have voted for him, but millions also didn’t.
But as in the UK, the hyper-capitalists own and control much of the press, sadly.

It will be interesting to see how the mid terms go. Trump is trying to remove any opposition from so many key areas of control, he's started sacking people in the FBI yesterday, I'm genuinely concerned he'll attempt another go at overturning elections if they go against him. Will he try to see if he can go for a third term? Who knows, he's breaking most norms ATM. IMO nothing is off the cards with Trump.
I don't think there is any question that he will try what he can foxie He simply doesn't believe in democracy.

There was a report that a photographer was going up the escalator backwards trying to film Trump and may have caused the escalator to stop for safety reasons.
It was the US who were in charge of the teleprompter so not the fault of the UN.
Trump making a big issue over nothing. My mum would have called him "a big girl's blouse" in less politically correct times.
He IS”a big girl’s blouse” 😂😂😂
Gerrymandering is happening, so Galaxy may well prove right on this.

I suspect the Republicans will win the next election but my prediction about Harris winning was wrong so we will see.
It all rests on who the Democrat candidate is doesn’t it?

But obviously millions of Americans would disagree with your relatives, or at the very least they thought he was better than the alternative.
I think that ‘thought’, past tense, might be the operative word here. .
I don’t think so tbh from all I have seen most of those who voted for him like what he says and does and think he’s going to be good for the US.

Of course. Trump was voted in. That doesn’t mean he is a good president or even a good person. Many leaders around the world have been voted in who proved to be disasterous. Already Trump has proved to be capricious and unreliable on the world stage, unable to reign Netanyahu in and prevent genocide and equally unable to reason with Putin, of course this is because both Putin and Netanyahu merely regard him as a useful idiot. Also many countries are now reconsidering their relationship with the US. In particular countries in the ME are shifting allegiances making the region less stable.
Would a different president have done any better? I personally think even Dubya on a bad day could have done better, and I didn’t like him either.
Ronib The planet will definitely be around long after I have "gone" but I'd rather do my, admittedly small amount, towards leaving it inhabitable for my descendants even if I'm not around. Pity we all don't feel like that!

My impression is that Trump will turn the American economy around. I think his anti global warming policies plus drill baby drill will rebalance his economy. Unlike ours which is doomed, sadly.
I doubt very much that you know nearly enough to make this statement, either about the US economy or Trumps policies.
All I know about Trump is that he shoots his mouth of before putting his brain in gear and has some pretty vile opinions about just about everything. In short he is a nasty piece of work. So whatever policies he puts in place are sure to be peevishly punitive towards certain groups of people in the US and the economy probably won’t be great if all his ill thought out trade tariffs come back to bite the ordinary person in the street.
Certainly members on GN from the US like imaround etc., don’t speak too highly of Trump, neither do relatives of ours or their friends in NYC.
Am not sure what you base your admiration for Trump on exactly but would be interested to know, as long as it isn’t just about migrants.
The planet will last longer than we will.
Well if it's a choice between destroying our planet or taking a cut in my standard of living, I'd go for the latter. I care about the world I'm leaving behind me, clearly others don't.

That article doesn't cover the issues you mentioned stripeygran.
No but it mentions an organisation which can.
Apparently my first hand anecdotes are insufficient.
As you wish.

Time will tell growstuff.
Maybe it will, but could you please explain what Trump is doing which makes you think as you do.
And it might not, ronib so by what measures are you predicting that the lives of Americans will be improved?
Time will tell growstuff.

I have a feeling that America is going to be streets ahead by the end of Trump’s term. Lucky Americans.
Streets ahead of what? Personally, I can't see any way in which Trump s improving most Americans' lives. Maybe you could explain.
