Trump attacked Sadiq Khan when speaking at the UN today saying he is a horrible mayor and imposing Sharia law on London.
What!!!!
Firstly what has our London Mayor got to do with Trump??
If Londoners want to critisize him so be it but Trump should just keep his nose out of it.
Also to say all that nonsense about Sharia law is offensive and blatantly Islamophobic.
The US ambassador in London should be called to account over this.

there are alot of muslim womana having to go to Sharia courts to try and get divorces, never seem to get them and don;t know thay can go to UK courts

If that's the case, there needs to be some serious education in Muslim communities. Muslim women themselves are probably best placed to educate others.

What’s your view on Trump’s ability to be polite or diplomatic
primrose

foxie48 Fri 26-Sept-25 20:42:20

Certainly doesn't apply to Trump, Primrose and he's supposedly leader of the Free World so I can forgive AR her lapses, she wasn't brought up in a wealthy family with all the advantages that Trump had.

Crikey, Primrose AR was nowhere near the UN and although I didn't always approve of her language I did often approve of her sentiments and her humanity. Starmer is, as stated by Iam64, polite and diplomatic. I'm proud of that and he certainly doesn't embarrass me in the way Trump would if I was an American.

I was responding to the comment ā€œthese qualities were always considered necessary in senior politiciansā€.

AR was a senior politician.

Trump hates - yes, hates, anybody who opposes him or has different views to him. Khan is not bringing in Sharia Law - only Trump, Farage and Robinson followers will believe that.
All religions have church or religious law e.g. Catholic Church can annul a marriage etc. Trump is often firing off insults to people and about people - think how he treated Zelensky and how he spoke of the vicar to advised him to remember the poor and needy. How a city Mayor could ever feature in the thinking of a US President is breathtaking

No Primrose53, Starmer is not so dumb as to contradict Trump in the full flow of his UN address, thank goodness.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Starmer is also polite and diplomatic. These qualities were always considered necessary in senior politicians, I still believe they’re necessary.
Trump supporters clearly find his rude, ignorant, bigoted rants funny

Crikey, what about Angela Rayner, who was second in command? Obviously they weren’t considered necessary in her case. šŸ˜

I dare say as Starmer and Khan are both Labour they’ll have each other’s backs understandably.

On the London regional news Starmer was interviewed and asked about what Trump said, he said that to say London was getting Sharia law was ridiculous and what Trump said about Khan was totally wrong and that he stood by the Mayor. He would not be drawn on whether it was racist but said he agreed with what Khan said. He then says that there were, however, things he agreed with Trump on and that the US and UK had a good relationship.

He dare not say it to Trump’s face though.

Some States in America ( such an enlightened country confused ) still permit under age marriages I believe?

Four states (California, Mississippi, New Mexico and Oklahoma)have no official minimum age for marriage but still require parental or court approval for a minor to marry.

Age of consent (sex) varies from state to state, from 16-18, most states need parental consent for anyone under 18 to marry.

It’s so sad to know that there are thousands of women living in the uk who have suffered this horror 😄

I am always in awe of people who haggle so successfully.

We tried it once in Mexico, and somehow managed to haggle the price up😃

My late dad once managed to haggle a price up too - that was in the Canary Islands 😁

Wiki says that Boris Bikes' success has been mixed and that usage has declined.

Maremia Thu 25-Sept-25 18:22:47

That is so Primrose, lots of cultures have become more humane in their practices, like abandoning suttee, female infanticide, child brides etc.
I think Iam and Fried have nailed it with their suggestions that it is suffered mainly by girls of African heritage.
It is not an Islamic tenent of faith. It is not mentioned in the Quran or the Hadiths.
So, in answer to the GNs question above, no, you are not being anti -Islamic by criticising FGM

JennyCee Thu 25-Sept-25 18:19:36

We might never get rid of him. The conservative ā€œopponentā€ is Susan Hall. Who is she and what can so do, or what has she done? Can’t the Tories find someone with some ā€œnousā€?
Even Boris brought some life and spirit to London. His ā€œBorisā€ bikes have gone from strength to strength.

PaynesGrey Thu 25-Sept-25 18:03:18

It's called satire and is perfectly legal - no different to cartoons which newspaper editors print every day.

Was Trump raging at the editor of the Telegraph for printing this and similar?

I'm sure people in this country would have plenty to say about the mayor of New York if he allowed balloons making fun of Starmer to be displayed at a state visit!

Maybe we would on GN, but I doubt that Keir Starmer would hold such a grudge that, years later, he would stand on a world stage and condemn the mayor of NY and the city of NY.

Primrose53 Thu 25-Sept-25 17:44:51

May I just address the belief that the disgusting procedure of FGM is an Islamic practice?
Yes, it is practiced withing certain Muslim societies. It has also been a custom with ancient Egyptians, Skopsky Christians in Europe, Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia, Protestants and Catholics in Sudan and Kenya, and the Jewish Beta Israel of Ethiopia.
Its earliest reference is is 163BC, well before the beginnings of Islam.
And yes, as Oreo has stated above, most people in the UK are against this misogynistic procedure.

Other countries and religions stopped it centuries ago though.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 25-Sept-25 17:31:32

Yes iam I always thought FGM was more prevalent in African families. Awful nasty practice. Another aspect of a male dominant hierarchy deciding how females should be cut.
