So sorry about that, is tragic. Is an evil disease so am so glad that for some the new treatment will help them.
But for many like your niece it will be too late.
Thoughts are with your family.

Unfortunately the disease is or was not diagnosed until it was too late and the affected people already had children.
Dreadful disease, I nursed a couple of patients who had it, awful to see the progression
Such good news that a last there is some treatment although expensive, congratulations to all those people who worked tirelessly on the research.

Thanks Casdon. Her mum & gran died of it. Other siblings too, one tested not positive. The others doesn’t want to be tested.
Personally I wouldn’t have had children.

I remember the lecturer introducing us to a very nice man at a neurology lecture. He smiled and chatted pleasantly. After he left the lecturer explained that he had Huntington's Chorea and outlined what would happen to him. It was so very sad. I never forgot.

I have never forgotten a man who had visited his wife for years on a ward I worked on in 1968. She had Huntington's and her body moved and contorted relentlessly and she had no speech. He told me she would always be the woman he loves. I often find myself thinking about them both. I was thrilled beyond words to hear about this research.

I just pray NICE don’t quibble about the cost.
One of the research team on the news gave £2 million for the operation. That will be a one off operation.
She gave details as to what the operation entails, mind blowing technology 🙏

It is great news. Huntingdon's is such a horrible disease, and for people to live with the knowledge that they have the gene, often having seen the reality of the progression, must be torture.

I always think of Woody Guthrie who was a well known sufferer from Huntingdon's Chorea as it was called back then. He inherited from his mother and his two eldest daughters both died from it. It is a pity that this latest breakthrough came far too late for them.

Incidentally one of his songs was called 'Old Man Trump' and it was about Fred Trump, Donald's father.

Yes. That was my first thought, too. That and the fact that Trump and Kennedy seem to be pulling the plug on medical research.

Great news, especially for East Anglia where there are clusters. It’s a horrible, heartbreaking disease to witness.

The future was SO bleak and they were really lovely people.

I’m so pleased to see this, there is a cluster in the area where I used to work, and it is a devastating disease, it completely blights the lives of the families affected. Well done those scientists.
