Is the country ready for a Farage government?

According to a poll on the radio, if an election was held today Farage would be in government with 100 seat majority.

Not sure what policies people are supporting.

Trumpland here we come.

The media wants to stir the pot in order to see what bottom feeder rises to the surface.
They want sensationalism and outrage not to actually factually report something.
Imho the media are morally bankrupt and in no small part responsible for the mess we find ourselves in.

I agree.

This is all so reminiscent of the 1930’s and Mosley. Have we learned nothing, or do we enjoy going backwards, much as many USA States are, particularly with women’s rights?

Starmer may have qualified his remarks but he gave the headline writers a gift and that is all that many people will read.

They will therefore think that he called all those worried about migration are racist.

I wonder if Andy Burnham told him that this would be a good idea!

Starmer in an interview I saw specifically said he thinks Farage is racist but not Farage's followers.

I thought he actually stated Farage’s policies on settlement status and indefinite leave to remain were racist?

People say Reform would be bad but look what we have now - bad. A government of u-turns, half-truths and only seems to react to Reform instead of pushing policies.
Much of Reforms support comes from the white working class - the people who once were labour but have been left behind by the middle class trendy labour party of today. Where are some sensible ideas - what about housing, health and education?

It would be much better for the Labour Party if transparency was apparent when assigning government contracts. So no relative of a current or past government minister was able to work the system. I wish ….

I agree. Mind you, every time I think of government contracts Mone and PPE spring to mind!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 29-Sept-25 16:06:53

Hmm. So his supporters just agree Farage is ‘racist’ and go along with it? I don’t think so.

Does Starmer realise that he's indirectly calling anyone who supports Reform racist? He's brassing off a LOT of people. Not clever at all.

A lot of Reform supporters are racist though 🙄

This is exactly what Farage did when he spouted out the EU Brexit rhetoric! Give back our borders! Etc! He winds people up and then disappears, and denies his actions when they fail!
Remember £350million per week for the NHS on the side of the bus!
And he still gets his MEP pension, has a home in France! Very much ‘do as I say’. ‘Not as I do’!
A dangerous prospect as PM

Blimey where on earth have all these new posters popped up from.

Educator Mon 29-Sept-25 15:56:51

I very much hope this is not the way we will go as a nation and that the other parties do not try to copy Farage in a hopeless bid to get votes. Let us look for an inclusive humanitarian non-racist vision complete with costed and practical plans.

👏👏👏👏👏

Outside the Labour Party Conference - lots of support for Thatcher! confused Do you think they know it's a Labour Party event?

Educator, how do you feel about Farage's involvement with Russian assets?

MayBee70 Mon 29-Sept-25 15:37:23

Doodledog

I’ve all but given up posting on here, particularly on N&P. If posts not toeing the Reform line aren’t nitpicked into oblivion (ie one word disagreed with and pulled apart to the point of tedium) they are ignored and argued against as if they weren’t there.

I find the current political climate frightening - not because I don’t want a Reform government (I’ve lived most of my life with governments I didn’t want), but because it feels like we’re watching a replay of the 30s, with its hatred and propaganda, except this time we have the knowledge of where that ended, so there’s no excuse.

I’ve always wanted grandchildren, but right now I’m almost pleased I don’t have to see them go through what it looks like we are sleepwalking towards.

I don’t understand how Reform MP’s and councillors are constantly being discredited for racist comments, taking bribes from the Russians etc and yet none of it sticks or gets widely publicised? Tice was totally out of his depth on Question Time and yet the following day Reform are still being asked by the news media for their opinion on just about everything.

Euan Blair is a 39 year old married man with children, and runs his own business, with a business partner. I didn’t realise that we are forever our children’s keepers.

There are no policies and even if there were there will be no costings.
Is easy to tell some people what they want to hear, I could get a megaphone now and do it, but once in government the wheels will rapidly come off the bus.

No policies? I see you’re not a member as I have a full mandate from them.

Before the election in 2024, they posted their policies in an election manifesto on their website. However, since then, their chairman Yusuf has said that " the contract with the people should now be considered in a new light" and "the faux manifesto unveiled by Nigel Farage in Merthyr Tydfil wasn’t supposed to be taken too literally."

Good grief what have we come to?

SaxonGrace Mon 29-Sept-25 15:34:52

It’s true, his sons multi million pound company

SaxonGrace Mon 29-Sept-25 15:34:01

Absolutely this! Labour have reneged on most of their manifesto, the cabinet appears to be full of CV liars, the black hole has been proved to be a lie and as for stopping boat loads of young men landing every day, since they came to power even more have landed, it’s no wonder Farage seems appealing.

ronib Mon 29-Sept-25 15:32:56

Isn’t Blair’s family also in line for making a fortune out of id cards? Or is that just an unsubstantiated rumour?
