Breaking news, midnight - Peace in the Middle East?

US President Donald Trump has announced that "Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan"

"This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line", Trump says on Truth Social

Trump is "considering travelling to the Middle East" in the coming days, according to the White House

Mediators from the US, Egypt and Qatar in Sharm El-Sheikh have been attempting to broker an agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza and a release of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas
The negotiations come two years and two days after Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to the 7 October 2023 attack, in which Hamas-led gunmen killed about 1,200 people and took 251 others as hostages

At least 67,183 have been killed by Israeli military operations in Gaza since then, the Hamas-run health ministry says

Well, we'll have to see - but I so hope that tomorrow will bring clarity that indeed matters will move forward now to peace, and that its not a Trump claim that cannot be backed up

Deaths in Ukraine and Russia are huge. Such a sad time.

And the international forensic teams.

Wait till the journalists get inside Gaza. We will be sick to our stomachs.

The details about what has happened to prisoners on both sides are horrific. But we all know how horrific Hamas can be. Why has the State of Israel become so evil?

Who has released the details?

Is Israel’s reputation tarnished? If so, does Israel actually care? Who is doing the tarnishing? I got the impression that for Israel just being alive was more important than being perceived as a walkover or Mr Nice Guy. I think the days when Israel cared about its image have long gone.

As the leader of a country that had been violated would I care what other nations thought of me, I wouldn’t give a stuff.

Actually in this case though I think Netanyahu does give a stuff, because he relies on support for Israel from other nations, he could not go it alone.

Casdon
Israel doesn’t have to rely on support from any country. Israel is a very useful positive to disrupt/ benefit any situation in the Middle East.
Take the usa arms embargo on Iran. The USA sold arms to Israel, Israel sold those arms to Iran at a very inflated price.
And on it goes. 🤷‍♀️

Israel relies on arms for its own use coming from other countries, with almost 70% coming from USA. Netanyahu ultimately has to dance to Trump’s tune.

Maremia Fri 17-Oct-25 20:48:12

Israel sold arms to Iran? But that doesn't make sense.

CariadAgain Fri 17-Oct-25 20:12:24

More on the mutilated Palestinian bodies. A video has just come up on YouTube called "Families struggle to identify bodies returned to Gaza under ceasefire deal" - it's on the TRT World news channel.

AGAA4 Fri 17-Oct-25 20:07:22

Israel relies heavily on the US for arms. It is surrounded by hostile countries and cannot go it alone.

I've got well-used to facts being called "conspiracy theories" - having done my level best working against Covid jabs and Lockdown over the last few years - and now we're seeing the evidence pretty loud and clear that we were the ones that were right - ie the evidence is emerging pretty clearly of just how much health damage and deaths there was from the Covid jab.

That's before we get into the social effects of the Lockdowns.

I'm only too glad I "knew" months before Lockdown that they'd shut society down and was pretty prepared for it - though don't ask me how I knew (as like various other incidents in my life - I just "knew" - intuition and all that often serves me well).

One of the plus side things of moving to Wales for me has been the number of people here that accept one can "know" things by intuition alone sometimes.

OMG - and reports are now coming out of Palestine saying that some of the dead Palestinians bodies that are being released have obviously been used as organ donors!!!

Awful....awful....awful....for those of us that know it is very inadvisable to volunteer to be an organ donor in our Western countries (because the criteria used for suitability is only "brain dead" and not "dead dead really dead") and there have been some horrific tales of people still being alive whilst their organs were grabbed in our more civilised countries. So goodness only knows how things were for those poor people.....yuk...yuk...yuk....yuk...

Talk about a hellhole...

Best not to post conspiracy theories without evidence.

The Yeni Safak article is up there on Facebook.

CariadAgain Fri 17-Oct-25 19:55:22

My Jewish friend (who lives here in Britain) gave the article that appeared an hour ago on the Yeni Safak newspage. Quick re-read back through and it certainly doesnt look as it was voluntary.

Israeli–Arab organ donations

Some families of Jews and Arabs killed in the Israeli-Arab conflict have chosen to donate organs to transplant patients on the "opposite side". Examples are Yoni Jesner, a 19-year-old student at Yeshivat Har Etzion in Gush Etzion, and Ahmed Khatib, a Palestinian boy shot by Israeli Defense Forces soldiers who mistook his toy gun for a real one.[1][2] The generosity of families prepared to donate the organs of their loved ones under such circumstances has been praised.[1][3][4][5][6] Their story was also made the subject of an award-winning BBC World Service program, Heart and Soul, in 2007.[7]
According toa 2004 study, "the rate of organ donations among Arabs and Jews in Israel is proportional to their representation in the general population," and the main reason for donating organs was altruism that cuts across the boundaries of religion and ethnic groups.[8]

I believe that the only 'stuff' Netanyahu gives, is for himself.
The Hostages were never his top priority or he would have considered that early suggestion of a deal with Hamas. Details are surfacing now.

Maremia Fri 17-Oct-25 19:39:42

How would Israel cope without support from the USA?
Such support is assured under Trump, but under the next regime?

Casdon Fri 17-Oct-25 18:53:21

Strange question Anniebach. NATO.
