Feelings run high over Gaza but I can't blame all Israeli people for the actions of their government. Not all of them support Netanyahu.

US President Donald Trump has announced that "Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan"
"This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line", Trump says on Truth Social
Trump is "considering travelling to the Middle East" in the coming days, according to the White House
Mediators from the US, Egypt and Qatar in Sharm El-Sheikh have been attempting to broker an agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza and a release of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas
The negotiations come two years and two days after Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to the 7 October 2023 attack, in which Hamas-led gunmen killed about 1,200 people and took 251 others as hostages
At least 67,183 have been killed by Israeli military operations in Gaza since then, the Hamas-run health ministry says
Well, we'll have to see - but I so hope that tomorrow will bring clarity that indeed matters will move forward now to peace, and that its not a Trump claim that cannot be backed up

This afternoon there’s apparently a huge anti Israel demonstration in London again. I am one angry gran but staying put. Why??
You may well ask.🤬
You astound me! Just upthread I reported that
“Earlier today the truce was broken when IDF opened fire on civilians in Jabalia Refugee camp, Northern Gaza, earlier today”
Matters are not settled at all.
We don’t know if either side will stick to agreements: there is much to play out yet:
of course people are still coming out to voice their concerns around what has happened to the people of Gaza;
to say, we cant stop until a satisfactory solution is reached:
And for that matter from large chunks of activists, and I know locally exactly who they are - genuine concern for Jewish people including Jewish people themselves who don’t support Netanyahu and are waiting anxiously not just for the return of hostages but for a future that has peace not more war on the agenda.

The Palestinians were thrown out of their homeland, made to live in a glorified concentration camp and then had it bombed to smithereens around them. The world should never forget what has been done to these people.
FWIW women have been able to do combat roles in the army since 2018, even close combat and the SAS. I'd be happy to be armed if there was a conflict in the UK, I'm a better shot than OH!
If they have the means most women would fight any occupation, give them guns and ammunition. The UK has never been occupied so it’s never been tested.
That is of zero surprise to me.

The above was to AGA4 just to avoid confusion .
Well, maybe if we wore very short kilts😁
The Israeli military casualties have been surprisingly small, they havn’t been fighting street to street the have just flattened everything in front of them with bombs and shells.
Conscripts have mainly been used in backup roles freeing experienced troops for the fighting. Women can effectively opt out of military service, if they wish, some men on religious grounds but the grounds for exemption can be changed by parliament at any time. Arab Israelies don’t get conscripted, the largest group
Several exemptions have already been closed.

I don’t think our government would want older women to fight in any war😄
Just glad there were those around in the second world war willing to fight, where would be be now if not for them?
You never know. A huge army of angry grans could have had Hamas running for the hills never to be seen again. Terrifying!

Goodness me - in many wars older women have indeed chosen to fight, grabbed a rifle when their family was threatened, or chosen an active back up role.
There are many, many different ways of fighting a cause. Not in the British Army, no older people were ever required to be on active duty.
I think we are talking of Britain here and the ‘fear’ of being conscripted.

I had that impression too.

This - exactly.
I'm not sure if rifles were readily available for civilians in WW2, apart from for the Home Guard, and women over age 43 were not eligible to join the Forces.
Volunteering in different rôles would not have involved combat.

Well we do know what would have happened if we had lost that war, Nazis would have taken over and occupied us, Jews would have been murdered and their goods and houses and any wealth stolen from them.We would become part of the German Empire. I thank God for the brave servicemen and women and our allies that prevented it from happening.

Not possible for us to find out at present....though once I'm dead (ie in Heaven) that is one of my personal projects I shall do - ie "run me an alternative timeline as to what would have happened if there'd be x instead of y happening" in all sorts of respects.
I can't say/none of us can say what an alternative time line would have been like - as all we do is that even the worst of people dies at some point (on that point - must go and check what Klaus Schwab and Tony Blair are up to at the moment.....to see if they're causing any more trouble).

Israelis also have died.
Israeli soldiers were included in "So many". I do feel for those young Israelis who have been conscripted to fight.
Errrrm....they could have refused. Some have refused and they do get punished by the "Israeli" "government" for refusing - but it is possible. Thinks - PTSD for going against one's conscience and the risk of possible injury/death for doing what the "Israeli" dictators want or jail sentences at intervals = by far the lesser of two evils to do a jail sentence (even though the flotilla members have been telling us about the torture the "Israelis" put them through whilst in there).
Though my own personal take has always been a lot lot stronger one as to what I would do personally (as a British person living in Britain) if ever my government tried to force me to fight in a war = ie I would no longer be alive for them to force me....as I would much rather die with a clear conscience and made up my mind decades ago what I would do personally if ever anyone tried to conscript me into fighting a war...ie I would not have been around any longer literally for them to do so. I would have died first - literally.
That's the thing - ie if someone decides to fight with me on a personal level = more fool them/no holds barred. But - for our government/any government to try and force us to fight a stranger for no good reason = ain't happening....The End.

So many lives have been lost while Netanyahu pursues his aim of killing all Hamas. Hamas are severely weakened and have their backs to the wall now but after the way the Palestinians have been treated there will be a great deal of hate for Israel and other groups will form in the future with the same intent.
I would like to think there will be peace forever as Trump says but I doubt Israel will be forgiven by those children in Gaza who have lost parents, sibling and friends in this war.
...and the hate isn't just coming from Palestinians (Hamas or otherwise).
The rest of the world has been watching what "Israel" has done and most of the world is very shocked at what we've been witnessing. I'd always known it was bad/shocking - but hadnt realised just how very bad indeed....but we know now.
Once the blindfold has been ripped off they ("Israel") would need an absolutely extraordinary publicist to put that blindfold back on again.....
One doesn't have to have had someone else trying to trespass and steal one's property to sympathise with what the Palestinians have been on the receiving end of now for decades. Though those of us that have had some personal experience of "grabby neighbours" may understand a bit better than some - but it is clear for all to see now...
This is something that Trump in his great wisdom (ha ha) should have anticipated. Some bl***y plan. But the reality s probably very patchy and chaotic, some places doing OK, others not.
The lack of planning for this gives Netanyahu a chance to say I told you so and indeed I'm sure that has been his plan all along and opened the way for reengagement
Trump got fooled by Putin....
Why not a peace-keeping force? Or is it too soon?
Maybe they’ll rub each other out.
