US President Donald Trump has announced that "Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan"
"This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line", Trump says on Truth Social
Trump is "considering travelling to the Middle East" in the coming days, according to the White House
Mediators from the US, Egypt and Qatar in Sharm El-Sheikh have been attempting to broker an agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza and a release of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas
The negotiations come two years and two days after Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to the 7 October 2023 attack, in which Hamas-led gunmen killed about 1,200 people and took 251 others as hostages
At least 67,183 have been killed by Israeli military operations in Gaza since then, the Hamas-run health ministry says
Well, we'll have to see - but I so hope that tomorrow will bring clarity that indeed matters will move forward now to peace, and that its not a Trump claim that cannot be backed up
I don't. People must not speak of their Jewish friends?
Could be an attempt to stop criticism of Netanyahu?
I get it, Anniebach!
What's wrong with having Jewish friends and neighbours Annie?
Not quite clear what is your point.
Whose denying there is antisemitism Annie?
Suggesting that any criticism of Netanyahu, the Israeli government and the actions of the IDF is antisemitism is ridiculous.
Trump appears to have an agreement with Hamas to police the area for a short period, however given that the militias they are fighting are funded by Israel, it all seems very odd.
I await “some of my closest friends are Jews” , guaranteed to be in posts when antisemitism is discussed. Recently a theatre cancelled 2 comedians, Jews but not from Israel, why deny antisemitism and say it’s just a few who are vile, a Synagogue attacked, they already had private security guards there, are they not ordinary citizens? Demands to stop an Israeli singing in a song contest, not an ordinary citizen?
Jews have always been the Baddies, Shakespeare, Dickens etc
It really is time Israel opened up Rafah. The medical aid/medicines etc, are desperately needed for the diseases now flying their way through the population, particularly children whose immune system are completely shot through malnutrition.
Yes, I agree.
I am pro-Israel, and also pro a Palestinian state but that does not mean I am for either Government and their actions.
I think you are correct ronib. Israel has given up it's claim to being the only democracy in the Middle East,
to claiming that the IDF is a moral army,
to that lovely belief that they were 'taking a desert and making it bloom'.
All gone.

Being against what's happened in Gaza and the resulting negative image of Israel is not antisemitism Annie.
No, they are two separate things to any thinking person.
But some are so consumed by hate and anti-semitism it is ingrained in them. It has been thus for millennia.
I’m sure that is true for some. However there are also people who are pro Israel, myself included, who are shocked at Israel’s government response to Gaza. It is that response which tarnishes the reputation. It’s not about prejudice against ordinary citizens at all, they have had no control over what has happened, just as we didn’t as citizens with Iraq.
Conflation again and again and again.

Quite!
Antisemitism is vile but many people are upset by what has happened in Gaza. That doesn't make them antisemitic.

My son told me there was trouble in Spain when the Israeli team were there and the race had to be abandoned. It seems that wherever they go there is trouble and it is due to the negative image of Israel in many countries.
Yes, Antisemitism

I think the days when Israel cared about its image have long gone I think you're right ronib.
Jews have been driven from many countries for centuries, then a Jewish Nation, 1948 following the horrors of the Holocaust, Israel a country of safety for Jews, 7th October 2023 they were invaded ,
Is Israel’s reputation tarnished? If so, does Israel actually care? Who is doing the tarnishing? I got the impression that for Israel just being alive was more important than being perceived as a walkover or Mr Nice Guy. I think the days when Israel cared about its image have long gone.

Which is why wars are always ultimately lost by all sides Anniebach.
Wars are always awful for civilians but sometimes there’s no other choice to defend your country.
Gaza, or their government hamas were the aggressors by invading Israel, murdering over a thousand residents and taking over 200 hostages alive and dead. They, and only they are responsible for the war.Oreo, but how exactly countries respond to aggressors is in their own gift, isn’t it? In my ideal world there would be an international peacekeeping force that would thwart the majority of, and be immediately responsive to, acts of terrorism, perpetrators would be caught and tried, and no further innocent bystander lives would be lost.
My fear for Israel is that the national reputation is tarnished as a result of government over-reaction, and that terrorism will rise as a result. I’m sorry if my thoughts offend you, but I can’t help feeling that as I said, wars are ultimately lost by all sides.
Your thought don’t offend me at all.
Your ideal world would be mine too but sadly it wouldn’t work.
You’ve seen how hard it is to find and kill the terrorists in Gaza a peacekeeping force would have no chance of arresting them.
Israel did what it had to do, hard as it was.

Do those lower figures make the thousands of killings okay in your mind?
Once the forensic teams go in to recover and assess the Remains, then numbers will be given, that will stand up in court.
you have increased the number given by Hamas , why ?
